I have long term chronic Lyme disease and DHEA 50mg has been a part of my regimen. I am doing very well with the aid of dhea, intermittent fasting, several other supplements and daily exercise (yoga, weight training and hiking). Oh, and attention to my diet. I have much more stamina now at 68 than I had 14 years ago when I was diagnosed.
THanks for all you do to keep us informed and up-to-date.

My husband and I went to an HRT clinic in our late 40’s because we thought our low energy was due to “low hormones”…this was on the advise of allopathic doctors. no one ever talked about DHEA. It saddens me to say, we have some lasting side effects, after being on them for just 1 year. 4 years later, we’ve really found a treasure trove of UA-cam videos that have given us the true education we needed. Without telling our whole story-carnivore diet with a few supplements are bringing us out of the confusion of why we have felt so bad.
Thanks for your work in bringing us honest, good, sensible health advice!!

Great conversation. I take and use bio hormones, but it all started with DHEA through my good doctor. Over the long haul, one at a time, we added other hormones. Everything is based on labs and from a compounding pharmacist custom made for me. I also take compounded porcine thyroid. I have Hashimoto’s and haven’t gotten to the root cause, so I need this porcine compound. I also take Low Dose Naltrexone which has helped autoimmune (5 in total starting at age 11). I’m so lucky to love weight lifting, walking (used to run), deep stretches. I’m 62, and I’ve been weight lifting and working out since 17. I’ve still had autoimmune challenges, but clean keto/very low carb for more than a decade followed by carnivore since Oct 2021 has helped, too. My body is aging but definitely nothing like my peers, and I feel very young, energetic, and strong. I have muscles. Some in the carnivore community criticize me for using bio-identical hormone replacement therapy including DHEA. I will continue my current plan.

I’m 49. Had a hysterectomy 16 years ago. I noticed a few months ago that my muscles feel weak. I set up a little gym for myself but I just can’t get myself to start because I can’t even pull myself up into my husbands truck for outings. No doctor ever told me I should’ve probably been on BHRT a long time ago, I haven’t had a good nights sleep in over 7 years and all the sudden my LDL is high! Also would love to see a comprehensive video of what "A day in the life of Mike, and what I try do daily to stay healthy". Metabolism slows because we're fully grown. I think fasting and exercise is the solution because you're just maintaining existing structures no longer growing to full form. Conservation is key for the system so the metabolism reflects the conservation in order to keep everything functioning.

Good point. It's also the reason that we become insulin resistant. Insulin is for growth. If you're not growing, it will cause you to store fat. I don't think all adults should necessarily jump straight to keto, but moderating carb intake via fasting and smart diet choices would help a lot. No sugar. No alcohol.

Since doing 20+ hr fasting daily, my testosterone level has gotten quite high, on the high side for my age anyway; but according to my hormones test, my free testosterone level was very very low. So in a way, the free testosterone level is what’s important, that’s what you can actually use. Eventually I found out the low free testosterone level was due to my very high SHBG (, due to my very low body fat (under 8%). After taking progesterone, all my hormones are now normal, so I guess it pays to get blood tests regularly.

Yet DHEA can protect against some cancers. It might be the mediating factor of why a keto diet reduces cancer risk. But it is true that, once cancer has already taken hold, a keto diet can actually feed cancer. This has little to do with ketones themselves, though. Cancers are highly adaptive and can use almost anything as fuel.
"While effective and sustainable weight loss is the primary driver behind the ketogenic diet’s surge, there is more to it than its ability to efficiently burn fat. It’s been proven to help improve your risks of acquiring cardiovascular diseases, Alzheimer’s disease, help maintain muscle and hormone balance, helps manage PCOS, and even lower the risks of certain cancers. [1] And, the ketogenic diet may also improve the decline of DHEA."

Don’t go to high on the dose, lose belly fat as that is responsible for aromatizing into estrogen.

"... WaterPik with _sea salt_ " - doesn't the thing clog up from that at some point? IIRC the manual mentioned normal water, what'S the benefit of using sea salt? How much, just isotonic, or more?
Also, a dentist told me WaterPik is not nearly as effective as their own studies claim, and not nearly so as manual brushing with inter-dental brushes of fitting size for the particular gap between two teeth. I have one, and it does feel that it at least does _something_, whether that's good, no idea.

Thyroid replacement therapy more complicated than most doctors understand. There's different types of medications and the blood tests are not accurate measurement of how your body is actually utilizing it. Find a good doctor that listens to you if your current thyroid Rx isn't working. Read Elle Russ's book or listen to her on YT

Work with a doctor / lab to determine if your pancreas is no longer producing insulin in sufficient amounts or if instead you are extremely insulin resistant. If the pancreas isn't making much insulin, you may need to look at taking insulin. If it's long term insulin resistance, you can look at other drugs and interventions to help.

Yup, nearly 2 decades oral DHEA was suggested to me by alternative medical provider.
It clearly was doing the first-pass-effect and turning into estrogen. Hell on the prostate and great for boobs. If you try it, do it as a transdermal gel if they make such a thing.

It might depend on the diet and lifestyle. A keto diet, fasting, and exercise probably has far different effect on testosterone levels than a high-carb diet, constant snacking, and a sedentary lifestyle. It's not only about a particular supplement but what the body does with that nutrient. I've been taking DHEA in recent years and never experienced gynocomastia.

    • @nameremovedforyourpleasure352
      @nameremovedforyourpleasure352 2 роки тому

@@MarmaladeINFP I still have my doubts about DHEA for males though I have at times used an another intervention in the steroid pathway to speed healing and suppress inflammation.
I was later to adopt a low carb diet sometimes down at 30 grams of carbs plus even fasting and fairly extreme cold exposure. My current BMI is 24 with pretty decent muscle mass.
Also, certain meds can alter the steroid pathway to yield unwelcome levels of estrogens.

With TRT, I went from a testosterone level of 246 (very low) to 744 which resulted in my no longer being a lethargic slug to ‘a house on fire’.
Yes, I’m eating super healthy and exercising six days per week followed up by forty minutes in a sauna and five in an ice-cold shower which has melted away excess fat while building muscle, but the KEY FACTOR has been the testosterone supplementation.
The problem for any man will be finding a doctor who will write the prescription given the gross prejudice against males in the United States.
If you don’t believe me consider that female genital mutilation is a federal felony, but with males, not only is this heinous practice completely unregulated, but it’s tacitly endorsed by the American Pediatric Association and the CDC.

that was a topic in a gender studies class I was in at uni a couple of decades ago and all the female students swore they'd never circumcise their future sons. MANY of my friends that I knew as a kid in the 70's weren't circumcised as their parents were from the Hippie generation and it was seen as violent. A psych class compared the violent tendencies of cut males and intact males on the micro level and the macro - as entire villages or cultures in the same region. Interesting topics!

? Try getting hrt as a menopausal woman. The kabuki dance is ridiculous and they are itching to stop it as soon as possible. Deficiency doesn't go away in 5 years !
If we all call ourselves trans we can get the hormones we want. My mother is the same age as Caitlyn Jenner but the latter can get hrt and my mother cannot. Go figure. At 70, real women have zero natural estrogen production, don't see why they make exceptions for trans people. They are real women , the medical community assures us so...why the dif rules?

Peri and menopausal women really need hrt. I have looked at this in depth, all the other options aren't nearly as good, or are barely doing anything. Maybe dhea will help, but it won't be enough if u want to feel normal again, and the soy, black cohosh etc etc will not stop heart disease, osteoporosis and alzheimers. Only estrogen will. Plant estrogens are 1000x less strong as estradiol. Sigh.
