    I only do dumbbell bench press. I wish he mentioned that it is harder to compensate with your dominant arm with dumbbells compared to dumbbells because the weight on each side is not connected. It promotes better form. You can also go at a slightly higher weight without a spot if you workout alone because if you go to failure you can easily drop dumbbells to your sides safely while a barbell would fall directly on you.

    • @michaelnewton1754

    Dumbbells are great. They build additional stability. The barbell has much more stability on its own so you'll be missing out while using it. However, for some very heavy lifts or generally unstable lifts you should use a barbell for safety and confidence in your lift.

    the reason why dumbells are feel harder to lift than barbells even when they are the same weight is because with dumbells you need to introduce alot more control when lifting them up whereas with barbells it is a much more robotic and simple movement. for instance when you lift up a barbell in a bench press you simply use your two arms to push up a weight and bring it back down, in a dumbell bench press you grab one in each hand and then have to control them as you move them upwards and downwards making it more difficult.

  • @ryanaandre
    @ryanaandre 2 роки тому +26

    When it comes to Chest I have found switching to Dumbells has been more beneficial from a shoulder perspective. I have less shoulder stress and potential injury (I haven't injured my shoulder like I used to do with the barbell). Finally, for safety reasons, using dumbells for bench when you're alone is far safer if you push to "failure".

  • @MrTrenttness
    @MrTrenttness 5 років тому +27

    I feel like Dumbbells are far more practical for real world movements. How often, even in a heavy manual labor job, do you have the stability of a barbell? Most every real world movement is done off center and more than likely with one hand. And how often does anyone ever place a load across their backs to carry an object? When was the last time you did this outside of a gym? In all my years I've never been on a construction site and seen anyone load their back with a barbell like stance.
    ....Thats why I do Pilates!!! 😀
    I'm not totally knocking barbells, but dumbells are in my opinion are the kings. Thanks for the video! Best wishes!

    • @shaloon64
      @shaloon64 4 роки тому

      @@doitformazi2347 yea I agree they're not easier I worded that statement poorly. I meant they are easier to feel and look strong when doing say, incline or flat db bench. For the average gym goer, 80-90lb dumbells make you look quite strong, but that same person may only bench 175-185 with the barbell for the same working sets (not impressive). That was the scenario I was in years ago, feeling strong with dumbells but weak with a barbell (I was using 90-100lb dumbells but barely hitting 225 with a barbell). Also, please explain to why barbell is better suited for the lower body. What about bench, ohp, and rows?
