In the 90s dad bought a 2670. A. 2470 owner told us to never pull anything larger than a 30 foot field cultivator. The 2470 owner had transmission problems. There is a video on UA-cam on the engineering of a 2870. It shows the differences between them. We left the old Case hydro outlets on it. None of our hydro hoses would reach that high. Had some 6' hoses made, male case and female pioneer.
Know am telling my age but the 2nd tractor I bought when I started farming was a 2470 my dad bought one to. The ne😢year brother bought one was a sight to see back then 3 2470s & 1470 all plowing together 😊
Thanks for the video, Being a tractor guy I totally get why you want to save it, but I'm going to say you need to be realistic on what this is going to cost with everything it needs. Then how much of it you can actually get, new used or custom made these days. I just priced 2 hyd seal kits for a 8370 haybine from Case IH here in Canada $1200, were searching for Jobber alternatives. The customer about had a heart attack at those crazy prices and it needs other parts and shop time to . Those 4wd,and some 2wd tractors have very little value up here in Canada compared to other makes, everybody is scared of the powershift and what that costs when it tosses it's cookies. If you can even find new or used parts and somebody that wants to fix it properly for a sensible price. Most guys just go buy another one and park them when they go wrong or update to newer machines . Those Case motors are also famous for rotting the bottoms off the cylinder sleeves/block flanges in 2wd tractors here in Canada. If you've lost that much coolant with no external leak are you sure it's not boiling it off in the blow by and putting some out the muffler, coolant also stuffs the crank bearings so could give low oil pressure. It sounded to me like it's got quite the knock on a cylinder when it tries starting, is that coolant sitting in the piston combustion bowl raising compression. Those exhaust couplings being loose is a common thing to, I had a buddy with an 1175 like that. We pulled the coupling and I Mig welded the end and made it longer to close the gap where it was worn from spinning with vibration, he didn't want to buy parts to fix it right .
Radiator tubes look clogged. Needs a good boil out. Coolant could be going through crack in head. Could also be leaking sleeve seal orings. 2470 has a very worn engine. Injectors probably need rebuilt or replaced. Fuel delivery of injector pump should be tested. AL B.
Just for to know you may have head gasket or cracked head I would say that where your water maybe going plus the hard staring is low compression don't stop repairing this when in full power it a work horse. I used to work on these alot when new and I think it a great tractor you will like running
I don't think it's a head or head gasket issue because the lack of water in the oil and the smoke didn't smell like antifreeze smoke. Good thought though.
You may not get any smell of antifreeze just watch the exhaust as it warms up but you said rebuilding it would make all the difference. That 504 is a good strong engine to start with but when you redo it have heads checked out really good someone may have gotten to hot
Great Video, wonderful project fantastic tractor, look forward to see the results
Nice. Can't wait to see next episode.
I ran a new 4690 with duals all around on my uncles farm, pulled a 21ft double wing disc and matching cultipacker here in Central Pennsylvania.

Id love to see the 2470 come back to life and go to work agrin . Love them old cases.

That certainly would be a sight to see. Always wanted a 1470 but this one showed up so we jumped on it.

Check the COMPRESSION.
Good video thanks
What engine is in that tractor?
The Case 504 turbo.

Interesting video!
You have a good tractor there for killing of Bugs!
I am a mf nut but I do like case tractors of this period!
CHECK YOUR PLANATERY OIL IN THE WHEEL HUBS.
Good thinking. I'll add that to the to-do list.
You'd be way better off buying on older Steiger. The powershift transmissions on the 2470s are a known weak point and expensive to fix.
However we didn't buy it because we needed to rely on it. We bought it so it wouldn't be wasted by going to scrap.
