Good news, minimal damage, easy repairs, great design ideas with the sheathing.Wonderful listening to the narration as always Ruth, nice and dreamy, best wishes 🙂
i dare say that is a fine vessel indeed, those sacrificial planks were a great idea!
Garretts' moment shows exactly what I get. I've watched you guys first build, then learn and now grow into pure moment gatherers. It's my life story that makes it different from the next guys even though we see the same thing. Garretts moment reminded me of sitting in a hospital bed two seconds after saying, "I just had a heart attack". The next word I said isn' t for this comment. But rhymes with duck. The whole of the moment hit and I felt that hit looking at Garrett, looking to the sunset. Beautiful moments can be found in strange places.
Kitty-sitting is the BEST way to pay for lodging! 😻
That was a fantastic shot of him watching the sunset. I was really surprised at how well the hull looked after all that time.
I might never have the skills or patience to maintain a boat like yours, but I shore like the look of 'er!
The boat looked very healthy for all the warm water you've been sailing in , finding a couple worms are no big deal ! good job crew !
Great Vid, Re worms heat up a piece of copper wire "red hot" and push into holes.😊
Beautiful sailing ⛵️ Salt and Tar your smiles are infectious! 😊
Bottom looks way better than I thought it would!
Well they did have a diver clean it
The primer coat below the red topcoat looked very good. Hope the new topcoat paint sticks as well to the primer as the primer has stuck to the wood. Ruth, your narration is pretty darn good! :¬) Webhead USA
Another Great Video, thanks!!!!
At last a sailing video!
Great Job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Garret, If you Add the Hardering Catalyst to the Paint It will Last Much Longer. Good luck God Bless
Yes! This is what I've been waiting for! Thank you for the detailed information with the additional slides. Couldn't have been a better video. Looking forward to the fixes! That extra layer was a good call.
I can't tell you how much your comment means to me, thank you 🥰
R
I think I need to say again, thank you for sharing your great adventure.
Good luck, looks like you have some work ahead of you...
Good to see that Rediviva did better than anticipated! Those four days will be sporty anyway, but it was so nice to see both or you grinning from ear to ear upon your sail before the haulout!
Your voices are so calming, need that y'all, thanks for these types of videos much love🇺🇸👍❤️
yes, this is the moment i have been waiting for. Haul out. Yes, i am coming with you watching you on this new episode.
Rediviva actually starting to look beautiful to me. I've grown accustomed to her face
Love you guys
Viva Rediviva! Ply the waves and embrace the wind in your sails. Say a prayer tonight for tomorrow you are headed to the beauty shop.
Ruth when I was lucky enough to get to hang out with Charlene Swansee Whisnet famous southern poet in the middle 70s when I was in Highschool she said only once "Just don't write anything you couldn't say to someone at a party" it changed my youthful writing style forever and clearly I've never forgotten it. What she meant wasn't about content but style. Authenticity.
didn't watch in a good long while - you both look younger somehow, something out there doing you good
Really not bad after soaking for two years. Get to work. Thanks for the video.
To see the damage worms can do, check out Sailing Yabá some 4 years ago when they started their rebuild due worm damage.... basically had to replace from the water line down... including planking, frames and keel... and then some
Good to see only minimal worming on Retavia.
That was Crazy Enjoyable..... Thank You So Much for your Efforts!!!!
✌✌✌✌🌍🌎🌏🌏🌎🌍✌✌✌✌
Thank YOU!!!
Poetry in motion, dancing and twitching over the water
So glad you finally hauled out! Long, long overdue.
I love work boat finish instead of a varnished and polished yacht but the boat has been looking bad for a long time.
Looking forward to the new look when she goes splash!
I have been watching since you were harvesting trees. What a remarkable story that you two have shared.
Excellent Update Summary, guys! 👍🏻🙏🏻😁 You are BLESSED and such a Well Balanced Couple.
Garrett - YOU are THE MAN - I am in awe of your Depth of Knowledge and the Breadth of your Skillset!
Ruth, your Skills wonderfully complement and buttress his - God Bless you 2🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻
Godspeed 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻😎
Fascinating documentary of toredo worms. Thank you.
Yes you're coming too will make a great t-shirt Logo
Good show and the worms were interesting . Us plastic boat owners never think about it
Fun video
Wow!!! You guys really caught up. Welcome back to real time, no more living in the past. :-)
Yeah! That's the Prisa I went to to mix my KiwiGrip color and it was great. It just took visiting five other paint stores first that couldn't do it.
Another great capture of a group sail!
Wooden boats' maintenance headaches. Lessons learned and potential upgrades. Other than the rudder and some seam line penetration, Rediviva looks decent, mostly cosmetic.
Looks like work and Sweat Equity to me (good luck you two) We love your channel.
This episode hit home...my last name is Gribble 😂😂 "the Gribbles have been roasted " 😂
Love it whenits sailing
Glad to see there was little damage, just a thought but I bet Red Aviva would look mighty fine with a copper strip run along her bow there covering up the end of those planks which would give her a bit more abrasion protection.
Great job on the haul out. I’ve read a lot about wooden boats andTeredo worms. Looks like you caught your problems just in time. Happy sailing.
Another excellent, and very informative, video! Much enjoyed!
Ivermectin mixed into the bottom paint is effective for worms and barnacles. It is available from veterinarians. It’s used on cattle and horses.
Man that was a fast 30 minute video!
Second Post y'all, Garrett looking west...Damn ,Damn .
Hey guys! What a great adventure and you're doing a top-notch job of video to allow us to come along. I'm very jealous of you both. If you ever make it to the East Coast around Charleston please let me know, give me a shout and Pam and I will take you two out to dinner! Keep up the lifestyle guys and stay healthy and happy! David D. ETCS, USCG, (ret)
Hey guys! Thanks!!! One day 🤷🏼♀️
Love it so much keep it up as always 💘
Best sailing channel on UA-cam. If you are new to this channel. Please watch from the beginning.
Absolutely!
Kept me sane during Covidiocy!
Do yourselves a favor and put a float on that engine start key --
GREAT marine biology lesson!!
Redeviva looks like a helpless patient in an ER.
Groovy episode
Great
A good job of prevent
my favorite channels
about now i would be starting to be concerned about the iron screws in the planks.
Best of good fortune with the rudder maintenance. You might get required parts, if any are necessary, in the States when you refresh visas?
Always come back with a suitcase or two ;)
Why isn't the front of the keel is blunt instead of being rounded or blended to reduce resistance int he water?
how cool. thanks
Have you sailed through really rough waters? Just curious. One other question, Hows your dog Swab doing? (maybe I should wait for a while before asking)
Rediviva is a fine lady, her beauty is much deeper than a coat of paint. She will take you where you want to go as her heart is strong. Well done to you both.
Nice picture of “the Lady of the North”
By far the most awesome boat on UA-cam!
i wonder if you used surface shield on your chain plate will it protect it from rusting
Very interesting.
Sailing !
9:54 ... Dawn was breaking in the west? ;-)
Trash & Laundry... is that like Death & Taxes in landlock life?
@saltandtar it must be a pretty neat feeling to have the boat get hauled out and see the whole boat there and think "We built that".
I still pinch myself sometimes 🥰
BTW did you ever hear anything about the anchor you had to cut-away from and leave? 😎
We had some hopeful leads but nothing bore fruit.
R
Mmmm! Roast Gribble
Well, at first look it seems like the bottom job won't take long but that always seems to be the case and it goes at least a month ? Minimum ? I'm Impressed with your preventative work.
Awesome on the lack of hundreds of worms.
Guys, skip Central America. Go direct to Panama if you want to go into the Caribbean, or head west to the Marquesas. There are very limited options in Guatemala and El Salvador and Nicaragua has safety issues. The South Pacific is beautiful, cleaner and less full of poverty problems. I went through Central America 20 years ago and I have friends who just came through this past winter. It hasn’t improved! Go West!
That's crazy. So what did they do in the older times when they couldn't haul out like that? As a non sailor, I find the SUPER interesting
They’d “careen” the boat; At a high tide, usually a few days days before the highest spring tide of the cycle, they’d put her gently onto a shoreline with the right slope angle down to the water’s edge, with the bow facing the shore.
As the tide fell, leaving the vessel high and dry, they’d lash or pin props to her sides to prevent her falling onto her side.
Then they’d work like demons to do what had to be done between each high tide.
Alternatively, if there was a suitable stone quay handy, they’d do the same but run a halyard from high up the mast to the quay to make sure that the vessel grounded with a slight lean onto the stonework to keep her upright.
There were actually drydocks from the mid to late 1700’s but generally only at a few naval yards. I’m not aware of any much before then but it’s not impossible, the old boys were smart and resourceful.
Cheers, R. 😎👍🍻
@@robm.4512 Excellent, thanks for that
A lot of ships were also copper plated which is still a key element in bottom paint today ;)
Thanks for educating me on worms I've never heard of. 🪱
Happy Memorial Day weekend. 🇺🇸
🤣 you're welcome ;)
Thanks for sharing LUV-UN-IT
How come on all the haul out docks i see they never put up any kind of rub protection not even vertical wood battons.. orvshuttering like the line Dutch canals with?
dont get them mixed up guys! :)
Where is the marine store in LaCruze? I only know Zaragoza in PV
❤
CAN YOU use COMPOSITE Planking material for the Rudder ? Maintenance and CRITTER Free ?
😊😊😊
The steel rudder hardware looks like its not faring too well...
Hoist a sail. RAISE an anchor!
Or weigh it.
While you were looking at flags, you might have gotten an American Flag to replace the horrible condition of the one at your stern.
🤦♀️I know!
Cool- I've been dying to see how well the sheathing performed. I am going to be replacing about 30 feet of teredo-damaged cedar on my boat this summer, and this has got me thinking.
Fun fact: the anus of the teredo is just behind the head, and they leave a trail of poop behind them in their burrow. 😮
🤣🤣🤣
Did Ruth say “ Glam up “. ??
Did you serve up cooked worms on toast? Yummy
Landlubber wondered what it cost to haul out?
It was about 1,200 something US ... for four days. Happy to be in and out fast haha
R
haul out and live in the dingy
i hate to tell you thia but the color red is almost as UV absorbent as black!
Do you know what caused the poor paint (red) adhesion?
It's really just old and sun damaged but also our primer was cheap stuff so that didn't help but it got us down here!

@@SaltandTar No criticism meant. Just an old ex-coating's man. She has sailed amazingly strong.
Its odd that shipyards have no means for avoiding these hazardous hull materials ending up being blown, swept back into the bay. Paints, sealants, varnishes all are extremely toxic & shouldn't be considered legal to re- enter the sea ..of course the industries and all the economy hinged to the boating world are the drivers that pull the strings allowing this to go on for centuries! I'd like to see boat yards being watched over, with attention to enforcing standing safety rules abided by.
😀😀👍👍❤❤
