No problem! Another option for 3D stuff is Blender. It's a great and free alternative to Cinema 4D that can pretty much do everything C4D can. I actually used a bit of Blender in my two videos before this one and will probably switch to it after my Cinema 4D license expires.
@Tiny Zombie Doll He should get a show on Amazon. Or even Netflix, they recently released a gaming documentary series. This is content that people would eat up.
Well said Modern Vintage Gamer, this brought back so many moments from back in the release days. I remember reading about the game and knowing I needed it… many years later it still holds the value as one on my favorite game series. This video reminded me that this may not have ever been a piece of history with out mistakes, failures, hardware restrictions and a great team of folks who used those losses as wins.
Yes like the stealth focus of the Metal Gear games... they couldn't have very many sprites on screen at once so big shootouts were out of the question. They made it sneaky stealth instead, and it worked!
The real winner of Super Mario Kart has always been Battle Mode. Those leaked prototypes are fun as heck to explore also. Makes you really wish Nintendo would more often show behind the scenes material.
Thanks for making this, bro. Me and my sister played this game a lot. The AI pissed us off so much that we nicknamed some of the enemy characters. Princess was Cesspool, and DK Jr. was Butt-Lard, and I think Yoshi was Stupid Lizard (I forgot the other names we had for the other characters). If one of them were particularly harassing my sister, we'd team up on it with items even if we lost the race. I remember f-ing Princess would poop those mushrooms, shrink you, and the one of the other characters would go completely out of their way to run you over. Every aspect of this game was absolute genius.
And thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. That's cool that you've got those memories of playing with your sister. This game is a freaking classic and still fun to play.
I liked the inaccurate / misleading claims in the commercial. Like you can't actually add more mud to the mud track. And it says that the two speeds are 'fast' and 'way too fast', but the racing just isn't that fast to begin with lol
@@knyght27 Go check out some tournament races on the SMK Championship UA-cam channel. Watch how they play the heavies and how they drift with them. Things can get crazy real quick. SMK gets deceptively fast when played at a higher level, and has the best sense of speed in the series.
I used to play battle mode with my little brother. The physics of the game were perfection. Tossing a green shell from across the field, watching my brother drive completely oblivious to the oncoming attack, followed by the visual, the sound and the loss of the balloon generated fits of laughter that you wouldn’t believe. It was moments like this that cemented Mario Kart’s place in gaming history. It was brilliant, hilarious and tons of fun
Thanks a lot, Eric. I'm trying to improve my 3D stuff as much as possible each video. Surprisingly, figuring out how to get the tires to spin correctly based on the speed of the karts was probably the biggest pain in making this video.

Mario Kart battle mode was serious business at my house in the early 90s. My friends and I would literally stay up all night battling each other. So much fun was had playing that game.

This game holds a special place in my heart, as does the SNES. I had a tough childhood, especially during middle school, and I largely credit the SNES for getting me through that period. The SNES is still my favorite. I was 12, almost 13 in late 1992. I was very lucky that I had a SNES early on, and I got Super Mario Kart right when it was released. I get chills looking at the box in this video. I still remember playing it for the first time. The music. The graphics. The feeling of hitting someone with a shell. What a time to be 12! Truly magical. I was into 1 player adventure and role playing games, which my friends and family weren't into. But EVERYBODY played Super Mario Kart. I have so many memories of so many people as a kid playing that game. I had a lonely, isolated childhood, and I was very unpopular in school. When people would come over to my house and play Super Mario Kart with me, those were some of the few times I felt normal and happy. One of the very best games I've ever owned. F-Zero 2 would have sucked. Cheers.
I'm 40 years old and still gaming to this day, I think people my age are still gaming because we've been there since the start of console gaming and it's just got better, when I see the people who made Mario and MKart I thank them so so much for providing me with my earliest memories of gaming, even after the Spectrum

This was the last gift my grandparents got my siblings and I as a couple. The next year in 93 my grandpa passed away from congestive heart failure . A result of smoking.
I lost a Grandmother, Aunt, Uncle and Neighbor to smoking. I am absolutely terrified of smoking anything. Never even tried a cigarette. A friend in high-school had a grandmother with a hole in her neck because of smoking and he took up smoking anyway 😬.
Awesome video! Great production/editing/storytelling skills! There are indeed tons of interesting information coming from the prototypes (and some yet to be discovered) telling us how the game was initially foreseen and how it progressively evolved in what we now today. SMK has still a big community going on, and also a strong competition in all aspect of the game (yearly championships on all 4 modes, Time Trial rankings, GP150cc rankings, speedruns, ...)
I’ve been watching your videos for a few years now and it’s insane how you’re still relatively unknown. This was a great video! You deserve to be up there with other retro gaming greats!

This video was a pleasure to watch! Very informative and well-researched. I loved the commentary from The Gaming Historian. The new style of video editing and graphics are a very nice touch too.
Ha. Yeah, Norm was nice enough to do some voiceovers for me. I actually read a quote for him on his recent Sega Modem video so the timing of both coming out one after another worked out nicely.
Thanks! I didn't even ask historicnerd to do that bit either. He just randomly sent me the voiceover after sending him that flyby video if the kart, which I had only made as a test render.
Props to your 3d animator - great production quality! Even noticed the specular highlights coming off the tv when a video played, showing that the video was rendered within the full scene instead of superimposed on top. Nice touch!
Thanks! My 3D animator is... me lol. I do everything on these videos except compose the music. Thanks for the kind words and for noticing the small details. I still consider myself a bit of a noob when it comes to 3D modeling and animation but I'm working hard to make noticable improvements each video. Thanks again!
Man, these vids are absolutely awesome. Kudos to you, my friend. I will note 1 thing though...diddy kong racing (I know that hapoened AFTER the snes) was a clone that added verticality that EVERYONE loved. Keep making these vids, man. You are QUITE good at it.
I have to make a comment: I discovered this video, and this channel yesterday. THIS IS AN INCREDIBLE WORK!!! Both an astonishing work of research and an awesome editing and writing work. The entire channel deserves far more than a million view for each of these. I’m so glad because I still have the entire list of videos to discover. Already, the one on the EA mega drive cartridge made me totally reconsider Trip Hawkins from a self confident loser (my 15yo view from video press in the mid 90 past the end of the 3DO console) to an inspiring entrepreneur and an ahead of his time leader (god, the reverse engineering of the mega drive!!). I love video games, I love history of video, I love technics of video games and I love the story of men behind it, and this channel has it all on the greatest way possible! Thank you
Thank you so much for taking the time out to write such a nice comment. It was nice to read after a rough day at work lol. I'm glad you're enjoying the videos. Take care!
You are more than welcome! Looking forward the next one, I was wondering if you were thinking about telling us the story of Origin, since it has sadly disappeared and it included both groundbreaking at their time and major game development people (not mentioning current Star Citizen very interesting project founder C roberts, whose story is by it self very representative of the medium evolution). Take care
Man thanks for the video! This channel has great content. Interesting videos that are well put together, and a commentator that isn't the "holier than thou" type. Keep it up! It's cool seeing the stories of the games that defined my childhood.
Thanks so much Bruno. I appreciate the years of support. It’s pretty crazy, UA-cam suddenly decided to really, really, recommend my old Goldeneye video to people the last two weeks and it’s added a ton of subscribers. It seems like I might hit 100K this week. It’s very surreal. I never thought I’d get here.
Well that commercial was as aggressively 90’s as it could have possibly been! Great video as always!! You continue to outdo yourself with the amazing graphics and I just love seeing new videos of yours pop up in my feed. :)

I've been going through your videos over the last day and the amount of work you put into editing is insane. I'm a bit bummed that you don't have any new recent videos but hoping that you are finding enjoyment in whatever you are currently working on!

haha. It was so 90s I just had to throw the whole thing in there. That announcer's voice is really nostalgic for me. He did tons of commercials back in the day.
Thanks so much! You actually came across it at a great time. I had taken like a year and a half off and just started posting new videos about 6 months ago (latest one came out 2 weeks ago). These do take me a little while to make so I usually only get one out a month, though a little less this year due to dealing with two hurricanes. My goal is to try to get two per month out starting next year. Thanks for the kind words and checking the channel out. I know there's a seemingly endless amount of retrogaming UA-cam channels out here so I really do appreciate it.
@g.mendes0482 thanks! Thankfully I didn't have any serious property damage. Just a ton of cleanup and power outages. But between that, prepping, and evacuations, it's delayed getting the videos out as quickly as I'd like.
The animations alone must have taken you a long time. The intro looks terrific, and I appreciate the massive amount of care that went into presentation throughout.

Great video. I love the fact this game just evolved, that would never happen now. The overall/coverall thing. I was leaning to drive when this came out & my driving instructor had it, my lessons were mostly spent talking about it, good memories!
Congrats to St1ka for the guest appearence😉
aww thank you! :D
No cap one of my favorite channels, the quality of your production is light-years above and beyond. Keep it up friend. ❤️
Thanks! 😁

This is super high quality stuff and enjoyable all the way. I'm glad that the Gaming Historian retweeted this so that I could run into it, subscribed!
Thanks! I know that there are a lot of gaming channels on UA-cam so I really appreciate you giving my channel a shot. Thanks again
This must be the game the i played most on SNES, a lot of fun
Awesome video! Great production/editing/storytelling skills!
There are indeed tons of interesting information coming from the prototypes (and some yet to be discovered) telling us how the game was initially foreseen and how it progressively evolved in what we now today.
SMK has still a big community going on, and also a strong competition in all aspect of the game (yearly championships on all 4 modes, Time Trial rankings, GP150cc rankings, speedruns, ...)
Thanks so much! And you're spot on and how there's still so much stuff being discovered, it's kind of incredible for a nearly 30 year old game.
I think everyone that watched this video for free and had a great time should send this to at least ten more people and make their Monday a lot better
No argument from me lol
Awesome video, great to see where such an astonishing game franchise started.
ayyy the gaming historian ftw! as soon as i heard him i got happy.
What a fun and informative video! Loved the voice Cameos! Great work here!
Thanks! Those guys all did a great job.
Love the Serpentico shirt! AEW AEW AEW AEW
I’ve been watching your videos for a few years now and it’s insane how you’re still relatively unknown. This was a great video! You deserve to be up there with other retro gaming greats!
Thanks Neil! The UA-cam algorithm can be a cruel mistress lol. A lot of people don't even get to 87K subs so I'm trying to keep that in perspective. Hopefully I'll see 100K this year.
I literally owned everyone in this game, either yoshi or peach I'll smash em all
I'd probably destroy you with Bowser though. Mario Circuit 1 in under 52 seconds (150cc).
@@JSSTyger negitive, I literally have everyone yelling at me sayin " this isn't the Mario kart I'm talking about it's 64 where the real players play" , but I wish we can play!!! I literally would take on the challenge, and battle mode as well, red shells all day, do r be mad either!!
The Color light from the screen reflecting on the bezel of the tv frame is beautiful.
Thank you. I spent a lot of time trying to get that right. I can't tell you how much I appreciate this comment lol
@@WrestlingWithGaming It immediately reminded me of playing games at night in the dark when I was a kid. Crazy how details like that can transport you through time haha.
I really enjoyed the video! Started playing SMK on SNES when i was 16 and i'm now playing MK8 and the mobile version. I wouldn't be upset at all if you decided to make a video on the sequels.
This video was a pleasure to watch! Very informative and well-researched. I loved the commentary from The Gaming Historian. The new style of video editing and graphics are a very nice touch too.
Thanks hellscream. Always good to see you
Man this series of retrospective videos are legendary in quality and entertainment. Thank you so much for all your hard work!!
And thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. Really appreciate it!
Said it before and I’ll absolutely say it again: amazing work!! 💚 Glad I could help where I could!
Thanks again for your help and for answering my many questions lol
When I started watching this video I thought to myself “why did norm not think of doing this video” and then I heard his voice over. Very nice
Ha. Yeah, Norm was nice enough to do some voiceovers for me. I actually read a quote for him on his recent Sega Modem video so the timing of both coming out one after another worked out nicely.
Spectacular video as always. Also, HistoricNerd's bit at the end and the outtakes made me smile. Thank you! 👏🏻👏🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Thanks! I didn't even ask historicnerd to do that bit either. He just randomly sent me the voiceover after sending him that flyby video if the kart, which I had only made as a test render.
I love your content man. You make some of the best video game documentary style videos on the entire platform. Thank you
Thanks! I'm trying! I just need to figure out a way to get these out faster 😬
Awesome video man!! Took me back to my childhood and the battles I had with my friends. That commercial was great too. Well done sir!!
Thanks so much. I appreciate you taking the time to watch!
what a work of documentation , edition and modelating, your videos are becoming better and better, the sky is the limit
Thanks a lot. I spend a ton of time on these so seeing that the extra effort doesn't go unnoticed is awesome. Thanks again!
Take care
Great video. This was my childhood. Man time flies when you're having fun.
Thanks!
Man thanks for the video! This channel has great content. Interesting videos that are well put together, and a commentator that isn't the "holier than thou" type. Keep it up! It's cool seeing the stories of the games that defined my childhood.
Thank you!
I've been following this channel for years, pretty happy to see you almost hitting 100k.
Keep it up. Awesome quality again.
It was super 90s lol. And thanks!
Man that was fun playing you in some Super Mario Kart tonight. Saw this video pop up over the weekend and didn't get the chance to watch it.... but watching it now. Love your content buddy!
Thanks for playing and hanging out. It was a good time!
1992.... the year ive been born man I loved my super Nintendo, N64 and PS1 back then
The production value on your videos is insane. Well researched, well written, well executed. Beautifully animated. This is what video game history preservation should look like.
Also - these voices reading the quotes... very nice
Thanks so much!
I can't believe the quality of your videos. Thank you very much 🤯
Pro all the way! Fantastic work on this video - and daaang that graphic work is legendary!
Thanks dude! I'm trying lol
Another great one, man. I've watched this one a few times now, love hearing about how this all spawned from the intention of making a 2P F-Zero, fascinating! Cheers.
This video is much higher quality than you usually see with these UA-cam deep dive documentary type videos. Just stronger research, better writing, tighter editing, etc. Great job.
Thank you! I spent a ton of time on it so I really appreciate it. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.
Great video! I remember I was a teen and we had our house full of friends, played SMK after school. GOOD TIMES!
Love so game! Very nostalgic for me. I was hooked on it from the moment one of my friends got a copy. I loved seeing new games like that. Thanks for covering this and as always fantastic episode!
Thanks for watching. SMK was always one if my favorites on the SNES.
I've been going through your videos over the last day and the amount of work you put into editing is insane. I'm a bit bummed that you don't have any new recent videos but hoping that you are finding enjoyment in whatever you are currently working on!
Thanks so much. I'm working on new stuff. Life has just gotten in the way. But have new content out soon. I appreciate your patience, I know it's been a while
Thanks for posting, this was my ABSOLUTE childhood right there!
14:00 that ad, is so 90s hahaha
Great video and amazing work wirh the edition.
haha. It was so 90s I just had to throw the whole thing in there. That announcer's voice is really nostalgic for me. He did tons of commercials back in the day.
Love the game and your behind the scene insights. Also, your production & animations are insane.
Thanks so much!
I'm finding this channel way too late... production quality is better than Netflix.
@ best of luck rebuilding from the hurricanes bro, we will all be waiting for the next masterpieces ✌🏼
Thanks a lot. I did indeed put a ton of time into the editing so I can't tell you how nice it is to read that it hasn't gone unnoticed. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.
@@WrestlingWithGaming So welcome! Content with this level of quality can always be put into a sizzle reel too.
Netflix should commission you to make these with interviews . Absolutely brilliant video and such a gap in the market for this content. Thanks and great job
If only. But thank you for the kind words.
Great video! Also those 3D backgrounds in the video are on point!!
Fantastic video mate. Really loved how it was narrated and the visuals were great!
Thanks so much!
Great video and awesome animations man! Love it, makes me wanna play it
Thanks!
This video and Gaming Historian's video knocked it out of the park with coverage and quality on this awesome game
Great video. Nice inside information. I owned SMK for SNES back then, and played the heck out of it with friends and my brothers! Super fun. One of my favorite SNES games!
Thanks!
Great video. I love the fact this game just evolved, that would never happen now. The overall/coverall thing. If the translator was British we use overall to mean a suit that covers the whole body including the arms, we call the version with no arms (that you call overalls) bib and braces or dungarees!
Amazing video as always, sir. Can't tell you how many videos of yours I've watched and re-watched over and over again, especially the one about X-Band! Thanks for all you do!
Thanks ballistic. I really appreciate that. The XBAND video holds a special place in my heart. Those guys and their drive to do the best they could really inspired me to try to up my production, writing, editing, etc. Even affected my real life and work. It was a life changing experience for me.
The effects you've used in your videos has gotten so much better with time! As always amazi g work!
Thanks! I'm trying to make that as visually interesting as possible so it's nice to see that it isn't going unnoticed.
Incredible production value as always. Worthy of million views and more thanks for all the hard work.
Thanks so much!
Nice production value in this video. The transitions, especially during the introduction, were well conceived.
Thanks so much!
Excellent video and the 3d modeling and rendering is off the charts... great work!
Thanks! I've been working hard to improve my 3D stuff so I really appreciate it.
The graphics in these videos is mind blowing. This channel is soooooooo good! ❤️
Thanks a lot, Paul! I try! 😁
