Totally agree with the #1 choice. POWERFUL performance of Purple Rain. But you can’t forget that Sheila E. warmed up the crowd that night with her sexy performance of Glamorous Life with the glow in the dark drumsticks. Damn she looked hot! That Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction performance in the white suit was incredible, particularly that version of “Sign “O” the Times”. Every time the man hit the stage I was mesmerized.
The denim jacket that Prince wore for the MTV awards show and also in the Sing O' the Times concert film was not only unique because Prince was not in the habit of wearing denim. Cat Glover was laid up for 2 weeks because of an accident she had during rehearsal while sliding across the stage floor which had a rippled/uneven surface. She tore a ligament in her foot and had to stay off of it for 2 weeks right before the tour. During her 2-week convalescence, she embellished that jacket and Prince loved it so much that he wore it on the tour.
His 1985 American Music Awards performance has & always with be my favorite of his because he sung his purple heart 💜 out with soo much emotion & passion 💜✌🏾🎶💜
The 1985 AMA’s were very emotional. Purple Rain was still in everyone’s imagination. I remember people crying at the movie theatre in the summer of 1984. It was such an emotional experience.

I also remember with the Sign O the Times performance, there were a bunch of drummers marching through the aisles doing the percussion elements of the song. Very memorable for an awards show.

Ok i waited over night for this and because of MC Hammer bringing way too many people me and other ticket holders couldnt get in. Someone idiot stole the tamborine a girl got inside out of her hand. Would have been my very 1st time seeing him live anywhere. Then The #2 pick i was suppose to be on that stage but by accident. I was up there looking to buy tickets and they mistook me for a late dancer. I of course played along until i saw they were going to be almost naked. I not being buff enough for myself left and Prince got word shut the door and didnt even Let Arsenio come to the rehearsal. I regret leaving that. 1st of many times i stood that guy up. I did get into the other Arsenio Hall performance of 1993. Yu can see me dancing next to the 3 male dancers at the end.
Prince and Dhani Harrison had a special moment at th Hall of Fame show. Where were so many epic moment and live concerts - god I miss him so and it saddens me that I will never see him live again 💜💜💜💜💜💜❤️ Hold on 2 your soul y'all, we got a long way 2 go!

Great list but I would have the Grammy's as the #1 because not just the performance itself, having all the people on the stage which, I don't think has ever been done before. The real kicker was after he was done and they came back from the commercial break, the electricity from the performance was still on 10! The audience was still hyped and it took about another 10 to 15 minutes for them to calm down. Nevertheless, I think you list is great. Good job

The 1987 VMA performance of Sign O The Times was better than the studio recording. The original is reflective and observant. This performance is ANGRY. It captures the mood that is contained in the lyrics. It's hard to believe that it was only 2 yrs after the AMA performance of Purple Rain. They seem to be from different eras. Of course, to Prince they were.
