You can check level of all tracks in Sound Rec Level Adj. where you change the gain.
Love my Lanparte hotshoe extension cable. Never had a problem with my DMW-XLR1 with it. As for upgrading, it's not like XLR has changed significantly either. Interestingly it is firmware upgradeable, but still has the original firmware.
Good to know about the Lanparte. I'm still skeptical, because some reviews have been positive like yours, while other reviews have been negative and don't recommend it. Whenever a device has those kinds of split reviews, I tend not to take a risk in buying it.
The dmw xlr1 can be updated via firmware updates?
@@creativegreatsvisuals I don't think so because I haven't seen any firmware updates for it.
Thank you
Hello! Very nice video, thank you for pointing out that's impossible to avoid having 4 tracks in certain codecs.
I've just a small though about using the hot shoe adapter with an actual shotgun, in the way you did.
That could be tricky, but.
Using a splitter like that one, let 48v flow into the microphone? (I don't think so, but if yes, tell me)
And if so, the 48v should flow from xlr 1, and what about the 2?
Will it get a signal anyway?
I don't think it's a safe idea to give phantom from 2 xlr to a single microphone.
If my thoughts are right, you should precise that this backup track trick, would work only with self powered shotguns.
Another curiosity I have is about powering this hot shoe adapter, which battery?
Operating time?
Operating time with 48v on?
Thank you so much!
great video man! I can definitely agree that the xlr1 is just easier and faster to setup. I tried it on a recent project and while it was easy, I do head a great quality difference compared to mt zoom f3. I was hoping it would be in my head but it's not. So how will i use the xlr1? On lower end project where 4 channels would come in handy & for better foley audio paired with my at875r. When it comes to interviews, I'll stick to syncing audio in post with the f3. Great vid man!
Thanks!
@video gizmology: What do you think about this setup?
For example, let's say I am using Rode Wireless Pro with S5ii. I am a Timecode advocate. So,
I would turn on the timecode function on Pro, plug in the receiver to the mic jack on the camera which will output two channels: one track (Channel 1) which has audio from both receivers merged and another (Channel 2) timecode track.
CH1 audio (mono from two receivers) will not have 32-bit audio as the pro receiver does not output 32-bit audio but this way the two transmitters that output 32-bit audio can be synced in the post via timecode, giving me high-quality audio and latitude.
For the other two channels, I am using Sennheiser MKE600, XLR to Split/TWO XLR, one (Channel 3) at high and another (Channel 4) at low level for safety.
Basically with this setup, I am only using Three microphones (2 Rode wireless pro receivers and 1 MKE600) but getting 5 tracks.
CH1 - Two receivers merged (camera synced)
CH2 - Timecode signal
CH3 - MKE600 higher level (camera synced)
CH4 - MKE600 lower level (camera synced)
CHX - 32-bit audio from Rode wireless pro receiver 1 (timecode synced)
CHY - 32-bit audio from Rode wireless pro receiver 1 (timecode synced)
That setup looks good to me. Just know that the way the Panasonic audio system works, the XLR automatically becomes Channel 1 & 2 and the 3.5mm jack is Channel 3 & 4. I don't think you can change that with the current firmware. Your setup will essentially be the same, just change the audio track channels to match what Panasonic defaults to.
@@VideoGizmology Sounds good. thanks!
Really great explanations ! Do you know if it's possible to record internal mic + external mic via DMW-XLR1 ? The idea is to have backup sound but without an other mic... thanks !
Yes, if you are using an S5II or GH6 with 4 channel mode enabled with the XLR1 attached, the onboard camera microphones are always on as channel 3/4, with the option to plug in a 3.5mm mic. Channel 1/2 become XLR only.
@@VideoGizmologyso you can plug in a rode mic (pro + version ) into the internal mic 3.5 stereo and it work on channels 3/4 while at the same time having this dmw -xlr1 adapter on top with channels 1/2 still available to use at the same time ?
@@creativegreatsvisuals Yes
I think there is a new model coming out.... but it is advertised as being for the gh7
Yes, I saw that. The specs on the new XLR adapter says it only works with the GH7. I hope there is a firmware upgrade so all the Lumix cameras can use the new adapter.
FX6 does not have 3.5mm
I might have misspoken. I meant FX3 and FX30.
