The wind was light and variable, the long takeoff was due to the warm day, max gross weight and dry takeoff (no water injection used) as well as the fact that, well, it is a DC-6 not a 737.
I've photographed much of the Evert's fleet and without a doubt they have the finest collection of aircraft anywhere. I work with 747s/767s/777/A320s/A330/40s and they don't have anything of the character of these great prop-liners - more like giant kitchen appliances... I'd love to come work in Alaska...;-)
Wow! Not only does that DC-6 takeoff sound nice, but you resisted the urge to have background music that would have ruined the sound of this propliner taking off. Thanks for posting!
forget about the shutter speed and enjoy the video, this guy's gone out his way to film this ,if he wanted a lesson he would have gone to college, youtuber's as usual spoiling another great video, thanks for sharing this

Thanks for sharing!
Wow! Does that sound nice!
Look at the climb rate - its loaded.
P&W R-2800 x4!!
MUSIC!
That thing does not climb fast, that is for sure. I caught it departing Kotzebue, but a headwind helped it get up.
Or how about it was shot with the video function of a point and shoot camera? Could not set shutter speed...
I would of thought in the conditions mentioned, a wet (ADI) takeoff would have been required.
Nothing sounds as nice a four big round motors
Do it again🙂
@cessna175 Do they ever use water with these birds? I would think that the lack of high octane fuel would render water injection useless.
@SuperCubPA18 Most DC-6's had .450:1 prop reduction
Nice! Just "plane" nice!
Wrong shutter speed on your camera - there is no natural motion blur effect which can be seen from the propellers.
also the propellers werent turning very fast
Its a shame you didn't set a better shutter speed to show the props turning properly.otherwise great great sounds.
