I think you could go a step further and make them structural insulated panels that use your mounting brackets to attach to the cans. You could have say 4 or so different styles to cover most options like L or R side door opening, center door opening, solid wall and finally center window opening.

Hey Channing, I appreciate your informative videos regarding shipping containers. I’m currently in university designing a sustainable shipping container home.
What’s your thoughts on hanging insulation panels (cork insulation) on the exterior side?
And also, any sustainable materials would you recommend?
Thanks for your help - Josh

Sustainable materials are ones that last a LONG time. Building 1 house every 100 years with synthetic products is much more sustainable than a house every 10 years with natural products that rot/decay.
The issue the planet needs to resolve right now is a how to make building envelopes and HVAC systems for container homes in each climate zone that actually work. It's all the gaps, cracks, seams, corners that are the difficult part - how do you integrate the floor to the walls? The walls to the ceiling or roof? How does it breathe? Shed moisture? Bugs?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
It’s quite difficult to achieve any significant r-value when we start adding large windows/openings etc.
I suppose an HVAC system using a solar panel system can offset these heating and cooling issues!
Now I want to build my own house using shipping containers once I graduate !
