Gorilla Life at Twycross Zoo: Lopes' Growth and Family Antics

I visited Twycross Zoo again after my 2 weeks away and of course, the first point of call was Gorilla Lope (10). He seems like he's grown quite a bit in the two weeks I was away. His chest and head are getting mind-boggling big. As it was quite a hot day, he didn't move too much, but he seemed so much more relaxed, sitting outside enjoying his food. His eyebrow scrapes healed nicely.
The second part of the video is from his family in the old/usual enclosure.
Oumbi (31) has a little charge towards Biddy (49). As she tries to get out of his way she rolls through the grass. She seems perfectly fine and just continues eating afterwards. Ozala made me smile when she got a bottle of water ( they do have a fresh drinking water pipe inside as well), She took it and drank it so elegantly.
Biddy watched Asante move. Shufai comes from the back following his aunt, walks upright and beats his chest at her. He's coming back up the hill and Biddy is looking into the water-filled barrel enrichment. She fishes out an aubergine and a bottle of water. She has a little sip and then tucks into the aubergine. Oumbi is approaching again but then turning away leaving Biddy to eat in peace. Her eyes following the Silverback.

RUMOUR NEWS: Lope's move... As the rumour is pretty widespread now, and I've heard it from many different angles, and it's apparently already confirmed by a keeper, I thought I'd let you know that he might be moving to France, to the Zoo du Bassin d’Arcachon. This is not confirmed, and it could change! It is very likely to be true if you put all the pieces together, like a new habitat for two bachelor groups, but I myself haven't had any confirmation on this yet!
It looks like Zoo du Bassin d’Arcachon has built a "Gorilla Camp" which is supposed to house two different bachelor groups. The first silverback has already moved in, and his name is Awali. He will be joined by two unknown blackbacks. Silverback Dishi is the second silverback who will also be joined by two blackbacks.
If/when I get confirmation, I will do some research on all the gorillas and give you more information.

I am blown away by seeing them drinking out of water bottles! I think it’s great that they provide them water like that, but it just blows my mind to see them pick up a bottle and drink it just like we would. They are such amazing creatures. Love my gorillas.
It did amaze me as well. Normally they try to bite the bottle beforehand, but Ozala just picked it up and drank it like we would.
@gsusan11• Hello 🙂 I am not surprised over their good skills. People seem 2 forget how CLOSE related gorillas,bonobos, & chimpanzees, are with humans 🙂

Lope is ten and he already has silver hair on his back and even fangs, something Gentaro and Kiyomasa from Japan lack despite being older.
I was just about to make this comment. I was going to ask how old Lope was because he's almost a Silverback already!

Yes but Gentaro is heavier.
Don't forget Momotaro was a full Silverback at 10 and his son is 11 and not yet Silver.
Silverbacks can develop anytime from 9 to 15
Doesn't mean one is gonna be bigger than the other, just because it develops quicker.
Also Momotaro father (Biju) is Oumbi's brother so Gentaro is Lopes long lost cousin
Also Richards (Prague zoo) eldest son is 13 and is still a young looking black back
Also Monroe the gorilla (San Diego zoo) is 12/13 and not yet Silver

It's quite far in the south as well, so not just a channel crossing which makes it more difficult to visit him if he really goes there.
We won't see him again that's so sad

You're welcome😊. At the moment he's still at Twycross, so no worries yet about updates and once he has moved I will do my absolute best to go and see him in France ( if that is really where he's going). There might be someone who will film him there and is able to do more updates than I ever will be able to, but he's been such a big part of my life for the past 8 years, it would kill me not being able to see how he's getting on over there. So I will try my absolute all to visit him there to see what his new life is like and of course to report back to all his fans all over the world. I know you all care just as deeply as I do for him and that makes me even more determined 😊

I never quite seen it like this. 😊 They normally bite holes in it first. Especially Ozala , this was quite elegant for her.
Lope has matured early, just like his 1st cousin Momotaro. Must be in the bloodline since Momotaro's Father and Oumbi were Brothers.

Es sehr schön zu sehen wie gut es der Familie geht.Und ich finde es gut das Sie Wasser draußen bekommen. Ich liebe die Familie sehr jeder ist eine Persönlichkeit. Aber Lope war und ist mein Liebling er ist der erste den ich kenne gelernt habe und er ist so einmalig sein Gang ist so Cool auch sonst ist er so eine ganz besonderer Persönlichkeit für. Ich bin traurig das er jetzt getrennt von seiner Familie ist. Und jetzt noch die Nachricht das er in einen anderen Zoo kommt. Ich und meine Tochter wollte ihn so gerne besuchen aber durch ihren Tod konnten wir es leider nicht mehr machen. Aber durch ihre schöne Videos kann ich wenigstens weiter an seinem Leben teilnehmen. Vielen Dank Slogger Vlogger dafür.
Ich versuche es mal in Deutsch. :-) Es ist alles sehr gern geschehen. Es bereitet mir freude das meine videos soviele menschen zusammen bringen. Sie sind nicht alleine und haben hier eine grosse gemeintschaft von gorilla fans , genau wie Sie und Ihre Tochter Daniela wissen wir Lope zu schaetzen und lieben diesen gorilla Bengel. Daniela wird immer in unseren Herzen bleiben. Ich erinnere mich oft an Ihrer Tochter. Sie war so beliebt bei vielen und immer hilfsbereit wenn jemanden Fragen hatte ueber gorillas. Es bedeutet mir sehr viel sie hier auf den Kanal zu sehen.

SV, please put up the video of baby Lope while being bottle fed before he was united with his family. It would be great to see a montage from the beginning and give a peek into his growth and personality, big task but I have faith in you!
Hi. Sorry, I'm a bit confused about the request😌. As far as I know, Lope never got bottle-fed and was always with Ozala, but I only started filming him when he was about 3 years old. There is a playlist I did a while ago with all the main videos from when I started filming Lope which is here:

@@SloggerVlogger there is a video of baby Lope in which Twycross is giving an interview about him, can't remember why exactly he had to be taken and bottle fed. During the interview Lope was walking around and coming up to fence interacting with the folks. The Twycross suite was raving about how smart Lope was, for this reason I can't believe they would relegate him to a life with a bunch of bachelors! If I could find that video anyone can, although I stumbled on it looking for something else, it's out there. Let me know when you find it!
Nope, I'm useless. I tried but couldn't find any video or anything else. Could you point me in the right direction? Is it definitely Lope? I only know that Okanda got hand-reared.
@@SloggerVloggerI think I found it but when I clicked on it the video had been removed, probably on Facebook but I've never used it. However I Googled baby Lope and found an old Twycross page from 2013 with numerous photos of Lope shortly after his birth when they didn't know the sex. Ozala holding feeding and Lope hanging on her back and cupped in her hand. I gotta say I was mesmerized by that lil bugger, his rust color hair and those eyes. It said the birth was smooth and fast with Oumbi by Ozala's side and sniffing his son. Those pictures are everything, I'll continue to look for that interview, but found many pictures and videos of Lope and the family before you began your journey. 😎

He's moving soon, but it is a double area so it isn't that small.
