Sea of Stars is a great game that wears its Chrono trigger inspiration on its sleeve. The composer of the CT OST even wrote some tracks for it.

They updated the remaster of chrono cross awhile ago so it's a good version to play now
Radiant Historia is a great recommendation, i honestly even prefer it over chrono trigger. Once you get into the story and into the combat you'll be sucked into it till the very end. Great video!

Great games, but to me, personaly, when I think of what makes Chrono Trigger so good, I think of: Great story and characters, long game but not too long, dynamic and fast combat system, linear but gives you some degree of freedom towards the end and most important, is consistently good through the entire lenght of the game. I haven't played all of the games on the list, but I believe that each one of them comes short on one aspect or another. Great list, though, I'm personally very fond of Chrono Cross and Xenogears.
That's what makes it one of the greatest, if not the greatest of all time. A lot of other games have pieces of it, but very few reach the same heights. The only other games that are on the same level are good for their own reasons that are unique to them.
I agree with another comment that says the Steam version of Chrono Cross is good now. Unlike patches for the Steam version of Chrono Trigger, which have been a total mess and have left the game still in a poor (and in some ways worsened) state, Chrono Cross on Steam has been significantly improved with its patches and is in a great state now. It's my preferred way to play it due to the 60 FPS battles, higher resolution, hotkeys for various things including an ability to speed-up the game, and cloud saves. It also has the remastered graphics mode, but I play the original graphics mode.
Nice! Glad to hear it. I hesitate to recommend it to people because I personally haven't played it on Steam and I'd rather be overly cautious than send people somewhere and they lose their money. But if it works fine now that's great!

I have to say Chrono Cross surpasses Chrono Trigger in its soundtrack but not overall. Chrono Cross for me was a nice sequel to Chrono Trigger although it is such a shame so many Trigger fans hated it. The only critique I have had for it was not enough Double and Triple techs given how many characters it has.
Yeah, I think a lot of fans that may have initially had a bad reaction to it should go back and play it. I initially had a bad reaction to it too, but if you try and step back from expectations and what you personally envisioned it SHOULD be you can appreciate it for what it is.
