The fictional character of Alan addresses the harshness of the working class in stories, the harsh and the sad realities faced, daily of the people who really struggle and do not have a voice, oppression is silenced by the State, also Deidre is symbolic of how bad it can get. The BBC is considered as dodgy by so many and the people are forced by the state, to pay for a license, for content to portray a voice is truly sad however it serves a purpose. I understand and appreciate the depth of Steve Coogan, playing. the character more and more, for so long and why he keeps doing it, is not just about money. Brilliant and clever yet again. The Carpenter's 70s elevator music enhances the theme is so much better than BBC " programming" of canned laughter.
