I'll give them another chance to be fair. I was wrong about BMTH and they became one of my favorites so comment the best lyric video to check out by Alesana!
Oh absolutely... It makes me sad I didn't get notified of this until just now, I'm hyped for this one! The Annabel trilogy is by far my favorite thing I've ever heard in music. Pure artwork and ingenuity. Nothing like it in music and that isn't even close to a bad thing infact its what makes it so great! Twists and turns around every corner. I can tell D-Gibby doesn't understand this is a story told over 3 albums each album based on 3 famous poems but each tell they're own story and together they line up and tell an in-depth story. I am sure he also is unaware each of the 3 albums have a short story written in the album cover and Mike Shawn the lead singer has also written a story that is also based on the Annable story. PMA!
Wow....i think me and 6Anghellic7 might be the same person.......couldn't have said better. Concept and art is imbued in their albums.....love the flavor of the whole " the thesbian" album
I saw them back in 2014. Got to meet Shawn after too. Sick show. My favorite was the drunk guy when they started playing this song screaming "THESPIAN" while his friend was holding him up 🤣
While I totally understand your reaction to the video, I will say this was a terrible first intro to Alesana. Like this song is the halfway point if a concept album based loosely on an Edgar Allen Poe poem. So it's like starting a movie halfway through thats based on story you've likely never heard.
When he says “gods turned his back on you etc” he’s basically saying that from the point of a demon, or from the point of darkness/madness that overtook the man character and led him to kill Annabel. The whole album this song is from is about a tortured artist who kills his lover and tries to find out who did it (looking for this guy), only to find it was him the whole time. Album call me with a few page written story that went with every song, concept was really awesome
Alesana are storytellers, you have to listen to their albums, especially The Emptiness, from the beginning to end to really understand the story and what is happening. It’s even better if you know the stories the albums are inspired by, and that’s coming from a huge literature nerd.
The whole "look in the mirror and ask yourself what's good about this music, it's not good" statement is something you need to be careful with. Completely ignorant statement because you really know nothing about this band and a little research alone would probably give you an appreciation. As far as story telling in music goes, this is top tier
Yeah, that statement was stupid. And it's not even about not knowing the story, most of Alesana's song are objectively good (there are of course some meh songs). He didn't like the group, and that's ok, but that's an opinion, not a fact.
Lol he definitely is closed minded and ignorant for sure. He doesn’t have to like the song but that doesn’t mean he has to be a prick and say we have to “look in the mirror” because we happen to like it.
Lol he definitely is closed minded and ignorant for sure. He doesn’t have to like the song but that doesn’t mean he has to be a prick and say we have to “look in the mirror” because we happen to like it.
Alesana's concept is a story that was over 3 albums, the part where is saying that the thespian's prayers fall on deaf ears, and heavens gates are shut is about him killing his girlfriend. you should check out Ambrosia
Alesana got me into softer metal music. They are so dope. Alesana is one of those bands that transends their genre through raw talent and artistry like carach angren does for blackmetal. (Im one of those insufferable slam/beatdown/brutal deathcore kids)
It is funny as you here something about God you instantly miss the point of the entire song come on man you need to start doing more research into bands or the songs
You need to more research on the song before calling it trash .. I love your videos but come on man you can’t call it trash when you don’t even know the story behind any of it.
Highly disagree about them being trash. You're being way too hard on the lyrics and video. its apart of a concept album. I normally love your videos but you dropped the ball on this one IMO.
@@ThisisStephennn YES I'd rather listen to him do that one because I feel it would be the easiest for him to understand as well as others who've not listened to Alesana before. Just being that its based on Dante's Inferno and pretty much everyone knows exactly what Dante's Inferno is about on even if they've never read it or played the video game. I love all 3 albums but The Emptyness is my least favorite but I can't choose which of A Place Where the Sun is Silent or Confessions is my favorite they are both so good and full of twists and turns! Confessions is probably my favorite to just let play and not think on when I listen to it every time I listen but if I've got a.p.w.t.s.i.s. on I am listening to every word and thinking and following along the entire time, I've learned I can't even drive well its playing 😆
@@hotrodjmanofficial448 It is based off of the poem Annabel Lee by Edger Alan Poe thus the reason for the Annabel in the trilogy :) when I say my least favorite I still listen to all three albums at least twice a month
You need to listen to every song from every album starting from the first. Each album tells a story in the order of the songs. I love this band for how detailed they are. Trust me, you won't be disappointed by listening to everything in order, it will all make sense and you will realize how good of story tellers they are. My favorite song by them is "Annabelle". You won't be disappointed I promise!
Their albums all tell stories. This album tells the story of a character named "The Artist" who wakes up to find the love of his life "Annabel" dead. This song is the Artist dealing with losing his love, only to be confronted by "The Thespian" who reveals he murdered her, and tells the Artist "God's turned his back on you"
Honestly like most people have said, you can’t really start in the middle of an Alesana album. When I saw this I checked to see if it was the first song by them you had because it was and odd first choice. When going in line with the story, the song is great. If you’re going to do this album, and I think you should and would appreciate the artistic nature of it, you should start from the beginning with “The curse of the virgin canvas”. Do lyric videos so you can follow the story, and maybe think of doing the whole album in order, one song a day. Make a series out of it. I think you would really like it. Love your videos man and I hope I’m right and you enjoy this band.
Alesana is one of the most well written and poetic bands out there. They were so huge in the scene for years but unfortunately they fizzled out but have such a huge dedicated fanbase because they gave us so much with a 3 part concept album and book.
Hope this helps a little bit with the understanding. This album particularly revolves around an artist who in a fit of rage killed his girlfriend. The full album follows the artists slide into madness as he believes that the girl named annabel has come back to haunt him. The album ends with him taking his life in hopes that it will atone for what he did. Well we know he killed himself but in his head annabel actually killed him in revenge. This band has an entire discography surrounding the story of annabel known as the annabel trilogy.
I love you’re reactions my man, you are a guy with a lot of energy and I’ve been supporting you since the beginning, but I have to disagree this time with you, I know that is your opinion but you have to know the story behind this song before calling it trash. Alesana is a band that make story’s in their albums, and If you don’t follow that story’s you won’t understand what’s happening, so I recommend you to give alesna another opportunity and follow all the story because they have great songs and it’s pretty interesting, but also you can react to the songs i mentioned in the other comment without paying attention to the lyric and without watching the video so you can only guide by the entire music, I know you will like better. I hope you have a great day and a big hug to you and your wife. Much love from Mexico. ❤️
Same With bands like Famous Last Words, or Ice Nine Kills a lot of their songs are from concept albums which tell an entire story, in a dramatic, theatrical way.
You really have to listen to the whole emptiness album to get the whole story! This is why I LOVE ALESANA! All of they’re albums tell amazing stories!!!
The prayer falls upon deaths ears part is from the thespians pov. It makes more sense if you look into the concept of the record. Great observation though!
Dude, chill out, no one actually killed their girlfriend. Alesana is my favorite band, and if you're going to listen to screamo, you better get used to those so called 'weird outbursts.' Honestly, this band is hella underrated, but they're a very talented crew. You based your reaction off of this one song, but there's an entire storyline that goes with it. This isn't hate, just don't base your opinion off of this one song, because it will be confusing if you haven't heard the rest.
I just have to say this isn't about a man who killed his gf, the story which spans the whole album is about a man the "sketch artist" who wakes up and finds his gf dead in bed next to him. he buries her in the basement and searches for her killer... now at one point in an earlier song he then goes and comes across a bar where everyone's happy and having a good time, he then decides that if he can't be happy then no one can, and murders them. H e doesn't start out a murderer, but the loss of his girlfriend does makes him one. in this song as he is losing his mind he finds the killer of his gf "the thespian" who taunts him and escapes before he can get his revenge. by the end of the album the artist tracks down the thespian and they fight, the artist gets stabbed and as he's falling to his knees dying the thespian tells him to look behind him, he then hears his gf's voice and wakes up... turns out he was growing dark, his gf was scared of him and so to save herself she killed him and all of this journey was in his mind as he died.
That's why there's millions of artists something for everyone. Just cause we like it doesn't mean you have to. You gave it a shot and that's all you can do.
this is a year late. but this whole album is about an artist who grew mad from the darkness of his art. he fabricates a reality where he wakes up to his wife slain. and he searches for the murderer. slowly learning that the dark figure and he are the same person... the twist at the end of album is that the artist didnt murder his lover but slowly was becoming that... and as she tries her best to save him. she ultimately is forced to kill him
Another thing who watches d gibby and goes man this is the song to introduce him to alesana lol so many better songs to start with you gotta learn to read people and what song would be best to start someone with them
The songs are based on concept albums this one is from the Emptiness the Thespian is meant to represent the evil side of the artist or the voice in his head that made him do it etc they wrote short stories to go with the albums
React to Behemoth, Deicide, Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, Immortal, Emperor, Kreator and Torture Squad and you will see that Alesana, and all the metalcore scene, is just a Disney channel version of metal.
Also I have to add if you love alesana which I do you have to know those screams are not for everybody they aren’t your everyday same old metalcore screaming
Glad people are keeping this band alive. A lot of haters, but haters never lived the scene. Edit: I'm Christian now, but this is what I grew up on. It's definitely of Satan, yet there's always a place in my heart for this. We all come from darkness usually.
honestly just stop reacting to these songs altogether. every time a band mentions god you think the worst of them and completely miss the point of the lyrics. it’s shitty of you to do. i’m not sure if you’re doing it to be mean,,, cause you don’t exactly have the smarts to critically listen to shit without getting offended every three seconds. i’m not even that big of a fan of these guys, but as a musician, they’re definitely A-tier. please grow up.
This song has two different perspectives. The first perspective is on the clean singing verse played by the killer who lost himself in reality after killing his girlfriend. The second one is on the high scream verses which played by the demon who tried to lure the killer into the darkness. When you catch the "get upon your knees, heaven door's are shut, God turn his back on you" part, it wasnt the killer, its the demon perspective. As the last part of this song, we can hear the demon finally revealed himself and they be battling each other before the song end.
It's meant that the screamer represents the character's dark inner voice. In a later song on the album, it's revealed that the character didn't really kill his girlfriend, it was this other guy, so he fights him and kills him, only to wake up and realize he was dreaming and the one he was fighting was his girlfriend. It's a tragedy. In his madness and grief, he goes on to become a tyrant that the protagonist of a later album travels back in time to kill.

Hmm...the song and video for Seduction might be more in your ally tbh. Give em another chance!

>Mad that he doesn't feel exactly like you. Chill out, it's his opinion.
