12:42 This scene made something click in my mind about a theory on the Apple family timeline. I apologize if it's old news, but of the reactors I've seen, I think you'd appreciate it most.
So, we know Bright Mac and Pear Butter knew each other from childhood, fell in love, got married, and had three children. Here we see them (finally) interacting with those children happily. More important to the theory, we see Big Mac with his cutie mark, but Apple Jack still has a blank flank.
Then, reaching back all the way to season 1 "Cutie Mark Chronicles", we know that Apple Jack (still a blank flank) at some point decides to give up on farming and try to find her path in Manehattan with Aunt and Uncle Orange. Then the sonic rainboom points her back to the farm, where she's greeted only by Granny Smith and Big Mac and gets her cutie mark.
What clicked for me was the reason for AJ's attempt to find a new path. Sometime after the events here Bright Mac and Buttercup, of course, are lost to the Apple family. AJ, feeling the loss strongly and having all of her memories of her parents tied up in Sweet Apple Acres, starts to associate the farm with her loss. Then she tries to physically separate herself from the pain by leaving and later, seeing the rainboom, she realizes that all of her good memories of them are tied up with the farm, too.
Again, I apologize if this is something obvious or that's been covered elsewhere, it just clicked for me while watching this video. I hope it helps.

Oh boy, I just realized something, if the flashback is pre-cutiemark AJ, and here AB was already born, the fact that Twilight hatched Spike and then all mane 6 got their cutiemarks means that Spike is actually YOUNGER than AB!
Not too surprising, but interesting nonetheless, considering Spike has already experienced “puberty.”
Tbf dragons DO age differently than ponies so that kinda explains it.
Out of all the things to happen in this episode, it was good to see Bright Mac and Pear Butter again, and sadly it'll probably be final time we see them since it's the final season and all.

All the cute and crazy faces just add a whole new dimension to the story and characters! I've really loved seeing all the extra effort put into the show as it has progressed. It shows that it was more than just a job to you guys, and all your hard work is much appreciated! I've loved meeting members of show staff at conventions, and would love to chat with all of you and hear more great stories of behind the scenes stuff, but sadly there are very few names in the credits list that will ever get invited. Just know that everyone of you is loved!

I agree with what you said about embracing one's inner child. Holidays and legends are there so we can enjoy life, rather than being bogged down by it. The episode honestly reminded me of the idea of chasing rainbows and finding leprechauns and pots of gold. But I also noticed something else. The show takes inspiration from various mythologies. I don't condone any particular belief system, but I was reminded of the Pagan legend of Herne when I saw the 'Great Seedling' character. Might be a coincidence, but I don't know. Here's something to think about. Between the flashback and the cutie mark chronicles episode, they lost their parents and it looks like not much time passed between those moments.

11:57-12:56 I could be wrong, but Applejack seems to be shown as a foal more often than any of the other Mane 6. Also, this flashback reveals something interesting: Applebloom is a few years older than Diamond Tiara. Confused? Well, in Honest Apple, Applejack is in her teen years, right? I always assumed that episode took place before Applebloom was born since she was never seen, and Filthy Rich and Spoiled weren't married yet. Here, however, Applejack is still a young filly, and Applebloom is shown to be born already. So unless Filthy and Spoiled had a child out of wedlock - which would explain a lot - Applebloom is older than Diamond Tiara.

21:06-21:21 The Great Seedling steps into the moonlight...and it's revealed to be Big Mac! He's been bucking in his sleep (as Applegeek predicted), and his silhouette looks like a deer because of everything stuck to him. Applejack and Applebloom are shocked.

21:47-22:02 Applebloom realises she's growing up and thinks there are certain things she'll have to leave behind. Applejack reassures her that having fun together is something she'll never outgrow.

22:25-22:29 Goldie whistles for her cats and they all clamour into her bag.
22:31-22:53 The Apples discover carrot tracks. They know it couldn't have been Big Mac, since he was only harvesting the apples. Applebloom and Applejack decide it's time for another hunt.

22:49-22:58 Epic slow-mo jumps, and an apple fading us to black. Applegeek decides to make it his new wallpaper.
Overall, this was a very cute and touching episode. Weird faces aside, I think it teaches an important lesson about the difference between being childish and child-like. Applegeek described it best: AJ seemingly lost a part of her childhood when she was younger, and has acted more like a mother to Applebloom than her sister - most likely because of what happened to their parents. By allowing herself to be indulged in her fantasies, though, she's rediscovered a part of herself that made life enjoyable, and it's arguably brought them closer as sisters. Working hard and growing up are essential, don't get me wrong, but this episode shows you don't need to be so serious all of the time. By maintaining a part of your younger self, you can appreciate the fun things in life, while still prospering in all your grown up endeavours. And that's something I'm proud to say I follow myself. There are a few more episodes to go before the mid-season hiatus, and they're all something worth seeing. Let's see what Applegeek has to think of them.

I was confused about the verdict of this episode but after watching your analysis, I only realized this is deep... very deep for me.
It's a shame that I'm detached with my inner child... pretty much completely.
First time I saw the episode I missed the hints with Big Mac and thought it was really Discord playing tricks.
I really enjoyed this episode. One of the favorite things about my own family going back generations is that none of us are afraid to embrace our inner child and we make sure all of our children have many magical moments throughout their lives. We work hard to make things special. The Apples often remind me of my family. I was really happy to see Golden Delicious as she is one of my fa characters ( even though I’m a DOG person not a cat person myself). She always cracks me up and her presence usually gives us a flashback or a story that brings some depth and richness to what we know about the Apples. This episode just felt like a good hug from family you hadn’t seen in a while- a memory of warmth you need to make time for on occasion in our busy lives. I’m sure I’m being over sentimental about it, but I really appreciated this episode and you were spot on in your analysis. It was also nice to see Big Mac being the hero again, taking his father’s legacy down for his little sister. So sweet . Thanks for the bid. The expressions this year are just wonderful. Kudos to the artists and the writing staff for really bringing it this season. I’ve had more “awwwws” and laughs over the facial expressions or badly language this year than any other. Looking forward to watching the next one.

To me this episode was insignificant at first or second watch. Compare to other mlp reactions, you, our good sir, really spice this episode up. I do enjoy watching this episode with your reaction. Especially when you mentioning the details that i’ve missed, the deep information of the lessons and the real life similarities that we all go through.
Again, this react makes me want to watch and respect this episode.

I'm glad that we got to see their parents in a flashback cameo, but this episode was generally disappointing for me. I was hoping that we'll see Bab Seeds again in this episode helping Apple Bloom setting up the traps for the magic deer. Heck, I would even love to see this as a CMC episode where Bab Seeds, Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon would chip in to help the CMC with trapping the magic deer. That would be something.

Duusu Fan MLB Not really. It was Apple Jack who frustrated me in this episode. Apple Bloom is still a kid and Goldie and Granny Smith are encouraging her to be a kid and have fun while she’s still young. I'm sorry Applejack but what reason do you have not to believe? you seem insect ponies that can change shape into anything centaurs that can consume all the magic Equestria fire breathing dragons bats made of literal fruit ponies made of crystalsor ruled over by a car that can turn into smoke a malformed monstrosity that can bend the rules of reality who is now your friend bird ponies that can turn into half fish and go between the land and the Sea at will probably a few other things. I really don't think the idea that a deer blesses the land is too much of a stretch.

16:08 you know it might have been less predictable if they had the Great Seedling's gender Female rather than Male, because the pronoun they use is "HE" and Big Mac is the ONLY HE there, if they said she...(as there seems to be more female characters anyway)...It might have thrown off a bit more, with the pronoun SHE rather than Big Mac's pronouns. It might still be somewhat curious since he's extremely tired, but at least you'd be thinking about other SHE characters like the Mysterious Mare-Do-Well rather than the ONLY Male character in this episode (rather then the boy cats of Goldie's) Anyway I like the REALLY MASCULINE characters in this show like, Big Mac, Shining Armor, Flash Magnus, Rockhoof, Bright Mac, Bulk Biceps, Filthy Rich, Fancy Pants, Discord, and of course the MOST MASCULINE character of them ALL...Rainbo-just kidding Flash Sentry...and Hitch Trailblazer from G5
