Yeah this is one of the most bizzarre statements I have ever heard on a watch channel.
The 124060 is the best Submariner in existence, but it is not perfect.
I find it a bit too large.
My ideal Submariner would be the 124060 specs (movement, glidelock, ceramic bezel, chromolight etc), with the case demenions of the 14060M.
Hopefully they do a 39mm Submariner for the 134060 coming out in 2030.

Completely agree. I have the newest sub and while it's the best one yet, it would be perfect if it was 39.6mm like the old "40mm" 5 digit subs.

Great historical comparison here! I have the new 41mm Sub and it certainly still feels a little square and boxy. I think in isolation, separated from the older models, the newer one can still be enjoyable though. The 14060M is the absolute beauty but I just couldn't love the older bracelets. Everything else about that watch is fantastic. Thank you for this demonstration.

Honestly who at rolex thought it would be a good idea to in make the clasp bigger; and the dial too for that matter. All that was needed was to go back to the 14060m dimensions and make the bezel ceramic, maybe add a glide lock (unless that is the reason for the bigger clasp, then I'd say unnecessary).

Pre ceramic looks way better to me.
I'm not sure about the new one. It appears that, rather than go back to thinner lugs and dump the maxi case, they simply upped the size of the watch/bezel and gave it a wider bracelet. Result - the lugs looks smaller. I'm not sure, however, that making the face of the watch bigger was the right way of going about it and yes, the face does look bigger compared to the outgoing 40mm
I think what some people miss is that the dial appears bigger due to the less reflective crystal and changes to the print. I had both new and supercase in my hands for four days. There’s a lot going on as far as change. Small mm changes seem to have a big impact. Eg the new one seems a lot lot thinner. Also a small chg to the diameter of a circle has a bigger impact on area of a circle.
100% 14060m. That is THE best “modern” day sub. The cases on the new subs make me sick. If a new sub came out with the EXACT dimensions of the 14060m but with an upgraded bracelet and a ceramic bezel option I think people would invade countries them. (Wrote this and as I’m writing this you just stated basically the same opinion 👌)
The NEW sub looks ugly with oversize bracelet and clasp.
Great video bro, I just got my 14060m after turn down 124060 from AD. I got a late production random serial number 4 liners… after turn down few bad conditioned 2 liners, flat topped 4. I still trying to find a best solution for 14060m bracelet sizing (mine is about 6’5 inches)

I like the 114060 most, as it has the ceramic bezel and a high quality clasp, which is slimmer than the new ones. I also owned the 124060 but sold it because of the fat strap and clasp.

For me, the 70 hour power reserve is why I'd go for the new one
The movement itself is slightly better than it’s predecessor, but that 70 hour power reserve is almost twice as much
Power reserve doesn't mean anything.
If it's your daily driver, you wear it all the time, so power reserve is pointless.
If you wear.watches in rotation and change them every day, if you have more than 3 watches, the one with 70 hour powet reserve is still going to stop, when the time comes to wear it.
Pre ceramic rolex is way more iconic than modern one. And it was more done by hand.
1 its watch Video do need to swear, 2 the bigger clasp on the latest 2 models is most probably a safer and stronger clasp plus the glide lock. 3 you neglected to state the new movement gone from 48 hours to 72 hours.

Such bitchy complaints to an extent. I have the 114060... if your wrists aren't baby sized the watch fits/looks fine. There are MUCH bigger dive watches out these days. The 114060 has broader lugs and I do agree they don't look as good as the refined 14060m but that's part of the modern take on divers these days, the 14060m was trying to recreate the past.
The 124060 still looks as massive as the 114060 and trying to make it like only the "uninitiated" don't get the "big" differences is quite condescending. They are literally minor little changes, the thing is still "big."

The 14060m wasn't "recreating" the past, is was simply the last/best of that era (original proportions, but modern movement). I can see the bling appeal of the new models with the bolder/beefier look - I would like that for some occasions myself. But the 14060m will alway be the one.

I've had the 124060 and traded it straight up for a well-kept 14060M. The wearing experience is vastly superior with the 14060M (at least on a 6.5" wrist). It's much more of a tool watch than the newer version. If I need some bling, I throw my Yachmaster on the wrist.

The newest version has good proportions. It’s just all too big. They needed to go smaller with everything rather that increase the size from supercase.

I have the ceramic sub and pepsi. But have to admit I much prefer the aesthetic or pre ceramic. It's just a practical thing that I bought modern. Will no doubt eventually get 5 digit version

I own this sub and it wears fine on my wrist, but I do agree - I wish they had stayed at 20mm. The only reason I can think they did it is to try to get away from the "maxi case" look that was created previously with the square lugs vs 20mm bracelet. The new one has more curved narrower lugs and I'm guessing to make it look more streamlined they made the bracelet wider

Loves my 1967 5513 more for its iconic feel - modern watches are OK, but only age gives watches real iconic status. That 5513 will of course never go in the water. My go-in-the-water pieces are 4 Omegas - the neovintage sword hands SMPs, 2 in steel, 2 in titanium. Bought them years ago for about 2K apiece. Have a nice day.

Just been considering some great deals on all three while shopping in Hong Kong, and agree 100% with your take. Both newer ones have a bolder/blingier look (bigger crown guards, fatter dial markings, more text, rehaut engraving) - and I can see why that will appeal to some - while the 2-liner 14060m is classic, simple, clean, yet with a great movement ... kinda like the classic Porsche 911 before it got bloated. So bought the 14060m in the end. The only feature I miss is the glide-lock.
Absolutely, a more substantial clasp/bracelet with a glide-lock would be very nice to have, at the same time I think it‘s part of the charm. Enjoy your 14060M!

I have to disagree with at least some of your assessment. They tapered down the lugs on the 124060, but it’s still nothing like the 14060. Neither watch does a very great job of capturing the aesthetic of the pre-ceramic Sub. Not to say that’s a bad thing by any means, they’re all great in their own way; just how it is from my point of view.

Bracelet on the Omega 3861 looks really nice!! The pointed crown brand messed it up on the NEW Submariner with their 41mm and massive ugly bracelet.
Agree on the bracelet. The 41mm (in reality 40.5mm) is not an issue in my view as the lug-to-lug measurements remain the same and the proportions are more in-line with the 5-digit references. As far as the Omega bracelet, it‘s certainly nicer than others but imo the one to beat is the oyster bracelet, which is why I would only wear a Speedmaster on a strap.
That’s my favorite too .. flow with class , if you want more of a statement then go for an SD43.. the Ceramic ones look like every other watch out there …16610 classic has a look of it’s own .

I really enjoy your uploads as they are very honest and because I agree with the sentiments. I had a 14060m two line that I got brand new from an AD (£2000! Back then there were anniversary models in windows that no one wanted 🙈) and kept for 20 years. I sold it because it felt frail by today’s standards but really regret it now. I also have the 41 like you and it’s a great modern watch but I miss the one I had. The box yours came in is very different to the one I had. Maybe this box was introduced towards the end of production but I’m not sure it’s the original. Mine came with a silver anchor, a booklet about the history of the watch, paper warranty, a calendar and the box was covered in a darker green leather - the inside of the top and the inside of the bottom sides was exposed wood - the outer box was also completely different with a natural stone pattern. I think the ‘m’ meant that it was COSC certified although the dial text didn’t mention it as with the date version at the time. Keep uploading and thank you for your insights - it’s good to see someone talking about the shortcomings instead of just gushing praise. Great watches but not perfect - what is?
Thanks Joseph for the kind words and the detailed comment - nice to hear that someone appreciates the content :) Both boxes are period correct, the older wood box was in use until 2005 I believe, after that they introduced the new version, still with the old „paper“ warranty certificate which was replaced by the plastic warranty card in 2008. The „M“ stands for modified (Breguet overcoil, larger balance wheel, etc), but not all „M“ where COSC, only once Rolex added the two additional lines of text. Enjoy your 124060, or maybe consider selling it for a 14060/14060M, now may be the right time.. take care

The 904L steel has been used by Rolex since 85 and their oyster steal percentage wise is almost exactly 904L. Omega experimented with that steel in 72. So, the 14060m is 904L steel. Just wanted to clarify.
As far as I can remember they used it for the case, but not the bracelet for a certain time, then they switched to all 904L. Also they did not introduce it at the same time for all the models

This is correct. Once again the 904L keeps the watch from pitting and so forth. I am very lucky to have the big crown as a family heirloom and it does not have many pits in it at all but seen other. They used 316L on those I believe and the bezel is brass I think. 85 cases were 904L. So still the case will be fine and to be honest the older bracelets don’t need to be 904L. You really cannot go wrong with the 14060m model or the latest one. The maxi case is just ugly in my opinion.

People who work in an office can still use them as a tool watch.. although using it for its intended purpose (diving) is obsolete anyways so it doesn't really matter.

I bought the Kermit 41, but that is also not new. I think it was 16 or 18, but not last year. I don’t wear it, I wear the gmt, even when it’s pretty much the same, like the black submariner except the 24 hour arrow, and the closing with that sliding for diving. My perfect watch is my jaeger, not enough people know it to mug me;)
