- Taylor delivers on a great mahogany guitar that wont empty the bank account. Baxter dives into the new offering from Taylor and why this might be the best guitar in the sub $1600 price range.
Love love love how it looks.
Top demo Baxter, a wee bit time taken rather than the 4 chords and out, thanks and respect and stay healthy all. 👍
Great review! Nice playing! Love the ‘size and sound’ 👍👍🎶🎶
Very nice, it was good to hear you go through a song on this acoustic guitar.
I usually don't like brown top guitars but this looks amazing, warm and rustic, great looking and sounding guitar.
Hi Baxter, just wanted to drop you a note to let you know how much my family (Shannon, Kevin and McKenna) and I enjoyed visiting Casino on Friday. We appreciated the time you took showing us around the shop and letting Kevin play some of your personal guitars. That was really so much more than we expected. We had a blast and it was well worth the drive from Columbia! Btw Kevin imprinted on the Magnatone Twilighter amp while we were there. Thanks again,
Norbert
We loved meeting the whole crew! Look forward to the next visit for sure :)
Pulled the trigger on this over the 00015m. cant wait to get it! The waiting is the hardest part
😎 Thanks Casino ⚓️
I have the AD17e and it's awesome! However, if I had t odo it all over I'd get this one. The warmer tone is amazing, plus it really is easier to fingerpick, which I do a lot of. You can pick the 17, but the smaller body is way more comfy.
Never heard one before but it sounds magical
Hey Baxter. You remember me - the Lowden/Shearing guy from a couple years ago. You echo my thoughts regarding this Taylor. Very sweet, compact piece. Can’t wait to grab one.
Holy crap, looks like Taylor just made my dream guitar...
Mine, too!
I just bought one. It is fantastic very nice wood and it is punchy and loud woody
2024 I bought mine yesterday although they’re $1999.99 nowadays
Cool review, cool guitar!
I have a 322ce (speaking of grand concert, all-mahoganies), and it’s the coolest guitar for home, recording, and playing on an amp in a cramped pit for musicals. None of those things require me to have a loud guitar, and it’s just awesome.
It's gorgeous.. some people have no taste. I like the darker woods and stains, the utilitarian decor without unnecessary inlays. I think I'm getting one, it's the perfect companion to my Larrivee LV-O3 when I want a more mellow and intimate sound. I still think I'm picking up a Martin 000-18M too but not until I can afford a custom with an ebony fingerboard and Adirondack top. The Taylor AD22e would suit me perfectly and its welcoming like a warm cup of hot chocolate.
I love my new Taylor ad22e
That's quite a nice guitar. I have a Taylor from back before they started putting electronics in them, and it's the only guitar I've kept from that time -- so I'm a little biased.
Nice. I just got an Alvarez AD66SHB and plays nice with the mahogany top back and sides
Nice piece there!
This is great!
Great riffing!
I really like the way that Guitar looks and sounds. I prefer smaller bodied acoustics as well. I don’t need any other guitars but I want one.
Needing has nothing to do with it. LOL
As a teen in the 60's, Martin was the sine qua non of acoustic guitars. I used to look past any guitar that wasn't a spruce topped D-18 / D-28 or a lookalike. To me, that's what a guitar was supposed to look (and sound) like, and it's how I ended up with a D-35 I still have. However about 5 years ago I picked up a Taylor K-214ce-K DLX (Koa with spruce top) that caught my attention because the Koa was just flat out beautiful. And since it has what I now know as the typical Taylor brightness, I bought it. Then about a year ago I was sitting across a song circle from a 000-15 and was instantly impressed with how good it sounded, it's punch easily picked out among several spruce tops. It was truly a wow moment. Long story short, I now have a 000-15 Streetmaster that's a lot of fun to play. However, now I am really looking forward to playing this AD22e, because it's a Taylor and a mahogany top. Can't wait for one to show up in the local shop. Hope my wife doesn't see this. 🙂
You are a wealth of knowledge
I would never go that far:) but sincere thanks!
Would you recommend this guitar in a tropical environment where humidity isn't super high but during the afternoon temps reach 93 and around 74 at night, with humidity anywhere between 65 tp 73. I would appreciate your insight, thanks
Nice guitar!
I wish you guys would do a test on the Martin 00-15m & the Taylor AD-22. I am so torn between the too! The 000-15m is not the comparison model. The 00-15m is! BAXTER…come on, dude. Love your playing! Do this comparison. I would love to really see how the Taylor stacks up to the “classic” 00-15m.
Do a search, those are compared all over YT.
Buying a Big Baby Taylor tomorrow!
This was not available when I purchased my 00015m but would have looked. I prefer lighter cases and it might have been a game changer
I love how serious Baxter gets when Jonathan isn't being such a bad influence on him. Of course, I feel the same thing about Jonathan. Basically, I'm saying they clearly have a toxic relationship.
Agreed!
How does this compare to a 326ce tone wise?
Just to be fair I would have liked to hear the Martin too.
Uh … yes. Please and thank you.
If you could only have one, would you go with this or a Grand Theater?
Hey folks I have a AD 22E and a 000 Martin they are both sweet and play easy.,but the Martin is a far better in playability and sound.
out of the box the martin flys way higher than taylor at the 12th.
Nice Fluffhead cover in the beginning 🐠
Hey Taylor: Build the Grand Auditorium (OOOO) version of this. Please.
That sounds amazing. I love hog guitars. This smaller body has some serious tones, visually the sound hole on this 22 looks larger than the 27. Please confirm.
it does look a little larger, I would send a query to Taylor support if it is something important to you.
That sounds big and tone is ACES KID
Sounds nice, would be nicer without electronics.
Baxter…which sounds bigger, this or a GT?
Owned a OOO-15M, neck joint separated due to how Martin makes those joints (bolt w/very little glue .. same in OMJM). Not a fan of that … they may have changed it after 2013??? But I would be all over the Taylor … Martin sounds good but they are not the end all & be all. I was all about Martin until recently purchasing a Taylor & very very impressed.
It may be due to low humidity.. You have to keep Martin in proper humidity of 40-60 RM.. Expensive instruments have to be taken care of.. A very small investment in a humidifier would have saved your Martin..
Martin does not use bolts these day, just a simple dovetail joint...also they would warranty something like that! Taylor tone will not compete with a Martin, they've been doing it for 90 years making all mahogany guitar with one piece neck, unlike Taylors which have tone damping 3 piece designs with bolts and shims!
@@nellatrabMy coworker toured the Taylor factory and took his Baby Taylor with him. The guitar needed a neck reset, so the staff took it and fixed it in literally minutes while he checked out the place. When he went to pick it up and pay, the tech said no, it was on the house. I love Taylor, and this AD22 sounds fabulous ❤
Good Morning Baxter from Fayetteville! Beautiful guitar. Personally, if a guitar Comes With a case, then I wish you'd spend 30 or 40 seconds going over the thing. It helps, it does. @ Baxter Think of it this way, if it wasn't a selling point, the manuf. probably would not even include it. Am I right?
Good
Point and I meant to on this one! Thanks a ton for sharing your thoughts there!
@@CasinoGuitars :-)
Great review, but less than ideal mic placement, imo. Making it more boomy than it actually is.
I’ll keep my 000-15m
Have you played this guitar? Looking for an honest comparison. Can’t find this and the 000 in the same store anywhere.
Update: I just tried a 000-15m and was not blown away like I had hoped.. however played a comparable Taylor’ (not the 22) and was very pleased…
Tested this out at a store today. Feels easy to play and sounds amazing. Only thing I don’t agree with on this video it’s not really affordable at this day and age. If only I had the spare cash for another guitar.
with the prices of all guitars increasing dramatically, these AD series have gone from 1200 new to nearly 2000 new in a SHORT amount of time. Thanks to inflation (we won't disucss why here ;) ), these will soon be the mid-level giutar the 4-500's used to be. I expect Taylor to come out iwth yet ANOTHER stripped down all solid to make it more affordable to the masses.
Heck the 224's are now up to 1750 with Koa.
@@masterhorax 1100 used all day long or even less
nice guitar it sounds exactly like a taylor
String G sounds odd, other than that it is a nice guitar. I will pick it over 000-15M.
So funny you just posted that after all of our talk of me buying an acoustic I just bought a 000-15M
I think you did just fine:)! Don’t tell anyone but I play a 0-17 and no one is taking that one out of my hands!
@@CasinoGuitars :) Such an incredible feel and tone- I can get my Grateful Dead country on!
Sounds full for a smaller-body acoustic. Taylor’s GT Urban Ash series disappointed me, but maybe these American Dream models are better - I’ll have to try them out in-person.
It’s really between these and the Gibson Generation series for me. I’ve owned a 210e for a long time, and I’d like to upgrade to a solid wood acoustic
Check out driftwoods “breakdown “ of the G-45 the sound and bracing is sloppy at best and the finish isn’t good. Get a Larrivee or Martin!
Taylor missed the two things that makes a gig bag better - light weight and lots of storage. The Aerocase is basically a hardcase with a nylon shell. It's way too heavy and there is no useful storage in my opinon. There is no interior storage box under the neck (which it easily could and would greatly benefit from), and the outer pocket is great to carry a cable and some music, but can't handle pedals or thicker items well. They needed to build in more storage and/or make it a lot lighter like the good aftermarket hard bags have done well.
i have a hard time with someone bringing up a selling point like the f8ckn case and not showing said F9ckn case!
Pedals? It's an acoustic guitar.
@@smandez2023tuner, preamp, DI…or actual effects which lots of people use.
@@danherrick5785 just google “Taylor grand concert Aero case”.
@@gr81dorn I get it, I just hate hard cases personally. I think Taylor makes the best hybrid solution, and includes them on higher end models.
Rather have the 000-15m Martin or a Guild M-20.
I don't see it . I love my 000-15M. Just as good or even better that that Taylor but that is only My Opinion :)
Nice Fluffhead in the beginning..
Thank you:) I was hoping someone would get that! The rest of the team here doesn’t know any phish so I sneak those in for my own joy:)!
I get the same ALL THE TIME. I'm the CSM at guitar center in Athens , GA. And i try and play phish all the time and my co- workers are like "is this still the same song?" At least I have some leeway with the dead now that John Mayer is playing for them. Lol. Keep it up. You guys do great work. I've sent a few people your way because I love what you do. I watch your stuff all the time. And I try to turn as many people on o you guys as I can. See ya.
Ibanez AC340, I [now know] how to quit you! - J.T., Wyoming, U.S.A
Maybe not.. lol.. it sounded like it at first.
It was for sure, just tweaked at the end:)
000-15 sounds better.
Don’t think that can kill a d-18 and d-28
I think he meant a 000-15, the all-mahogany small body model.
Stevens' "Father & Son" 🤓
Lots of low end for a smallish body. Is that the mahogany talking? I suspect it is.
Could have made it all hog y add $50
I’m a taylor fanboy but this could by the first taylor I don’t like. The 000-15 sound better and is cheap. I have a koa gs mini and sound better than this
And I'm thinking the opposite. I think the V-Class is a step in the wrong direction for the most part. I've played the AD17, the AD12, the GT Urban Ash, and this one. This is the one that haunts me still, and the only guitar with the new bracing configuration that works to my old ears. As a fan of mahogany topped guitars, I love how the V-Class really adds to the clarity of this smallish box. It sounds lush and sultry at the same time; wonderful mellow, mahogany whine. A modern tonal twist on vintage tone.
I think Taylors always kill Martins. Cleaner, crispier and more delicate. To me, Martin just sound muddy.
After watching this video I went and played one of these. It was no big deal. Kinda lifeless.
I did the same. However, when I went to the local Guitar Center, they had 35 Taylors in stock. All of them were surprisingly unlocked too. I played 5 of them and this guitar was by far my favorite. I played it both acoustically and plugged into the new Circa 74 amps. It was killer both ways. Light weight, very responsive and sweet. And you know what, it sold within days after I played it? I should have bought it, but somebody else heard in that guitar what I did. Hope I can find another like it.
Nope, not a Martin 000-15M killer, just a wannabe...The original Martin design with all real mahogany, one piece neck and single tonebar with over 90 years of know how will not be beat tonewise. You know that because you have an old 00 hog you love. Taylor likes to try and get some of the Martin hog sales and that V bracing, well it's also an old design from F hole guitars Martin shelved in the 30's. Never great for flattop guitars. I have one that is really played in and I play it sometimes at song circles where bluegrass & old timey jams are prevalent. It is loud and projects more than most dreads which are bass heavy, but the balance bass, crisp mids and chime like trebles are just so sweet. Players always remark, WOW what a great sounding little guitar! Just no imitation for them by any maker, well except maybe Collings or Santa Cruz!
Flufffff
Nah. I'll stick with my actual mahogany 000-15 slot head Martin, thanks.
Fluff head
Ugly as hell but sounds wonderful, $1600 is a once in a lifetime investment for most of us, so it had better scratch your itch, huh?
She does have a price tag and I here that. Simple beauty does it for a lot so I hope folks looking for that gives this gal a run for the money:)
Beauty is very subjective. No one is right or wrong for their opinion, but I for one like the appearance of this guitar. I happen to own a 000-15 so I might be biased. Had these been available when I bought my Martin, I certainly would have given it a strum before making my decision. Very nice guitar and great video (as usual).
I'm saving for a OOO-28 for its sound, but if I'd just buy a guitar for its looks and for the fact that it does have its own sound (a sound I still miss), I would buy a OOO-15M or even a OO-15 today. I love the looks, I love the playability and I love the mellow sound and softness and sweetness.
The only reason why I still go for that OOO-28 is that I feel this is the last time I'll be able to buy a top instrument (one I always dreamed of having) within 6 to 12 months of needing to put everything aside, basically living like a freaking monk. If I don't go for it, if I'd buy the 15 instead, it'll never happen. Not at an age when it still matters (I hope).
But if I manage to save enough and buy the 28...., with a little luck I might be able one day to buy a 15 as well.
ugly?!? beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. It's like a hot cup of chocolate!
It’s so ugly it could be a Gibson …
Out of tune
