Basically, the 000-15sm needs to be included in any list of the absolute classic Martin designs IN HISTORY. It is what it is and that's that.

Hey Kommammo, hope you're still owning and appreciating your 00-15M?! I own one too..from 2012 and it's a great and lovely guitar.
Even if it sounds weird but If your 00-15M has still the original action from the Martin fabric I would like to know your string height at 12th fret. This would be great to compare and adjust because I unfortunately can't remember the original height of my 00-15.
Recently I had to sand down the saddle due to playability issues. I guess the neck has moved over the time. So playability is fine now again, but I feel like I have lost some resonance..
I would appreciate your answer. 🙂

I own the 000-15SM; mine is in my hands right now. This is an incredible guitar! The sound is just intoxicating. Full bass, ringing highs, a lovely almost “equalized” tone across the strings like it’s going through an invisible pre amp. My hands aren’t the largest, even still the wider nut, 1.75”, and string spacing at the saddle, 2.35”, have become more comfortable to play especially for fingerpicking. The neck has a subtle V feel. Lead and melodies have beautiful sustain and a bell like tone. The 000-15SM is an incredible guitar for the price. I would actually love to see comparisons between the 000-15SM and Martin Dreadnoughts and even Gibson Dreads and the J-45 because the 15SM has so much bass and fullness that it’s tonally much more complex like a dread or slope shoulder. The next time I go to a store, I’ll be bringing my 000-15SM specifically to compare it with dreads and the J45… and I’m kind of expecting the 000-15SM to win out tonally. It’s that good! My only last bit of experience to share… this is a phenomenal guitar for open tunings. I would love a J45 to have those 14 frets in standard tuning, but being able to always have the 000-15SM in open tunings is a secret weapon!

Proud owner of a 000-15SM here. To address some of the comments: changing strings isn’t that bad and don’t let that be a deterrent if you’re considering it. I also have an HD-28 (which I love) but I usually pick up the 000-15SM. It’s all personal preference but it feels right in my hands. Lovely guitar, a no-regrets purchase. @@jessesmith2906 The SM has a wider nut so it’s more comfortable for fingers style, also it’s a smaller guitar so it fits in the lap a little better. I’m a big fan of the 000 Martins. I had a D-18GE for a while, traded for an even better D-18GE. The all hog Martins do have a unique woody, open sound, great clarity, but I’ve never really liked ‘that’ sound enough to buy one. I thought I’d prefer the sound of the SM, but IMO, the 000-15M was more balanced, more depth in midrange...The O-15M is pretty interesting, quieter, but otherwise retaining that all-hog sound. You could really develop a love for a small body guitar you can play quietly on the sofa, take it anywhere.

One very major difference not discussed here is that the 000-15sm has wider string spacing at both the bridge and nut for people who seek that for finger style. I think string spacing at the bridge is 2.35” and the nut width is 1.75” (compared to 2.25” and 1.68” on the 000-15m).

Surely lengthening the body of the 12 fret diminishes one of the main advantages of a 12 fret. That being, shifting the bridge placement into the central area of the lower bout for more resonance. Whenever I build a 12 fret I shorten the fretboard and move the bridge into the lower bout, leaving the body the same. I don't know any local acoustic guitar players who need 20 frets - usually 15 is all they play.

Quinton comments about the lack of locking tuners for acoustic guitars - just fit the ones marketed for electric guitars, if you must. But locking tuners are usually heavier and the bodies of acoustic guitars are lighter than electric guitars, and who really likes a guitar with a heavy headstock.

Hi Gents, I do say this with respect, but you are comparing the two Martin hog 000s back to front.
The 12 fret 000 auditorium was around from about 1902, until 19329/30 and is the ORIGINAL shape of the Martin Auditorium. So the 12fret isn't "stretched" it is the 14 fret design that is reduced to facilitate the thinner "rhythm" neck - i.e., the OM -then some time later Martin reintroduced the same body with a shorter scale and called it a 000.

If only Martin would offer size 2 in the 15 series or even an 0, or 0015sm.

Obviously I don't know how they sounded in the room - but to my ears the 000-15M sounded the best. It had the best balance of woody dry tone compared to some air and sustain. Also to my ears the 000-15M felt like the bigger brother to the 00-15M.....they had a similar character to their tone. The different body shape and possibly the slotted headstock gave the 000-15SM a different character to its tone. It sounded less focussed and less characterful with more bottom end and volume - possibly beginning to sound a little like a dreadnaught.

I've found something that the thinner [not fuller sounding] the guitar sounds, the clearer it comes across through microphones. And therefore more pleasant. And the other way around, it's close to dreadnoghts with guitars that are versatile, with full sound, enough bass and volume. The microphones usually cannot convey the better guitars when it comes to the full sound. Haven't played any of the three guitars myself, but something tells me the SM sounds the best.

In my opinion the 000 15m has a closer sound to the classic rock acoustic sound and would probably blend slightly better in a song mix with a band. All are good though in their own way

Isn't the 000-15SM a long scale? That would be one reason it's a little louder

They all have the same scale length of 25.4” I think.

My very Bad, I think it was late and I only watched 3 minutes into it your shared show is normally well done but the fast swapping in and out gave me the heebies. My 00015SM
Is cherished and with no nicks scrapes cuts or bruises so maybe my blood pressure got to high in the passings to be a reasonable and rational human being,

@@markmartin3221 - No bad at all - we're definitely on the same page regarding what a good comparison video requires! And we were definitely more cavalier than usual flinging these instruments around. If I had the $ and room, I'd be adding the 15SM to my collection as well - just an excellent guitar!

I seriously feel like I got the lesser of the three. Bought a 00-15 a couple months ago and I’m wishing I bought the 000 size. It just doesn’t sit right with me

NOOOO - you made a great choice!!!!!!!!! It is a better guitar than the 000. The 000 sounds too much like other guitars - the 00 and the SM both have unique voices. Repeat after me - better - better - better- better... seriously - the 00 was the best guitar I tried after playing 20 guitars last month - many of them were Collings - your guitar kicks *ss... this is obviously a personal choice...

I own the ooo 15 sm i will never part with it. It brings so much to the mix of instuments. I have found it to be an exelent fingerdtyle instrument, and flat picking as well. I chose to put a lr baggs i beam in it. The ooo15sm is a framed braced. It weight is next to nothing and it is comfortable to play standing up at gigs. How does so much sound come out of this intimate guitar.

The shoulders are more rounded on the 15sm. You will never find a martin 12 fret slotted head stock ooo 15 or ooo28,or ooo18. I guess it is to hard to make.
