Congrats on the 20k. I have pre-ordered my 105mm already. Now, after seeing this video, I want it to arrive soon! I think we are looking at late July here in Canada. Cannot wait!
That Bokeh is mind-blowingly good. I expected the perfect sharpness, aberration correction, build quality etc., but to have amazing bokeh as well? Nikon are smashing it.
@@MattIrwinPhotography I like to take the glass half-full viewpoint and pretend that every Soviet lens is Z-mount (technically, the Z mount is the first Nikon-made FF mount they've been able to adapt to natively/without glass!) When it comes to more modern Russian-made lenses like those from Zenit, unfortunately they're a bit cagey when it comes to if they'll ever make anything in Z-mount. Their message back on Insta when I asked them the same question was a very definitive "We will make such lenses in the future, maybe" 😆
@@MattIrwinPhotography The most fun I've had is with the Industar-50-2 50mm f/3.5 pancake - I reckon it's also one of the more mass-appeal Soviet lenses for Z bodies, it fits the 'tiny, light, dirt cheap' niche better than possibly any other lens out there as you can pick up a mint copy for ~$30, not including an M42-Z adapter.
Congrats! Your efforts are paying off. I now rely on you for all the latest Nikon news instead of looking up stuff on various websites.... no pressure. The thing I like the most is seeing your photos in the videos. Love the fact that we get results before the box even opens!
Cheers Duncan, for sure it is all about the photography :) So if I have time to get some images into the vids I will. And of course the proof is in the pudding. Or - bad Dad joke alert 'The proof is in the proof' 😁 Cheers Matt :)
Matt! Swap your Z(ed) 7 bodies out for 7II bodies... you won't regret it and then wait out for the 9 or 8 as and when. Everything is better about it... particularly the speed and focusing is a quantum leap ahead. I know your main photography is city/landscape but you won't regret it.
Thanks a ton Bryan, yes it is very exciting. 50mm review in production now, just need to sun to come out, arctic weather here at the moment :) Cheers Matt
Congrats to you Matt on 20-thousand subscribers. Lots of hard work and persistence went into that whilst running a business during a world-wide pandemic. Congrats again to you for getting on Nikon's radar and having been sent the two new lenses for your evaluation. I see that the 105 mm already seems to be in high demand and its great that you can show us a real-world workout for this new equipment.
Checked NikonRumors this morning and the 105mm is selling like gangbusters - well over expectations. Which means it will be out of stock for months! I ordered mine shortly after announced. I didn't jump on it ASAP so I suspect I'll be cooling my heals - hopefully not months! It does look like a killer lens. :)
Yeah, I think USA sites will have long back orders, here in Australia, at the local stores Digidirect, JB HiFI, Teds etc, I have been able to buy everything I have been after so far, and the only items I waited about 6 weeks for was the 2x TC and the 70-200 2.8, but that was deep in the middle of COVID last year. But yes the response even here on the channel from commenters, perhaps 30-50% are buying. It seems like a great lens for the price. Cheers Matt
So exciting, Matt - congratulations! I'm delighted that Nikon have sent you a product to test and I hope they continue to do so with their forthcoming camera bodies as well. It will be very helpful for all of us to get your early impressions.
since cracking 20,000 subs it is now 20,100. I can see in a relatively short time to come a vid about hitting 50,000. congratulations on an outstanding site and content
@@MattIrwinPhotography I’m in Sydney for a few days, you have inspired me to go out and try some night photography. Something I’ve never tried to do before
Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 well deserved, I've been hooked to this channel for around a year, definitely the best place to be for Nikon owners and photography professionals and enthusiasts.
Wow Matt, awesome work getting a hold of the lenses so quickly! Some stunning images there from the 105 Congratulations also on hitting 20,000 subscribers!
@@MattIrwinPhotography it certainly is a bright future for the Z glass, and for your channel! Can't wait myself for the 28mm pancake, my name's written all over it.
Yeah I am keen on the 'pancakes' too, as a throw in the bag with no plan to be photographing kind of 'not-shooting-but-shooting' kit, also great small kit, keeping things light and nonchalant. :) Cheers Matt
Congratulations on reaching 20K subscribers! The 105mm lens does look something special, it’s clear you were impressed with it. The knurled function ring is very nice.
Thanks a ton Simon, so far I am impressed with this lens and the value proposition it tender. Quite and allrounder, more so than expected. :) Cheers Matt
Really happy about another milestone for you, Matt! I'm excited for the 105mm to expand my prime focal length and get into the macro-verse too! Great video, as always! Chris
Congrats on the 20k! Looks like another top notch lens from Nikon for the Z series. This was probably THE lens I was waiting for. Pre-ordered, hope I'm among the lucky few to get in on the first batch.
Wow! Congrats on 20,000, Matt! That's truly a milestone. You deserve the attention; you've put in a phenomenal amount of work and made some great content. You got your hands on my dream lens, you lucky B! You realize I now MUST preorder one. Thanks for testing it for me. 😃
Thanks a ton Ray, I am very impressed so far, I have another 9 days to test it out, full review coming after that, but it is a lovely allrounder, with VR and well priced too ... :)
I just picked up the 105mm 2.8 Z macro lens at my local camera store and I am glad that I placed my order right after this lens was announced. I am surprised at how light and compact that this lens is. It takes a 62mm filter. Now I need to test it out.
Happy New Year Matt. I could not resist and just ordered one of these. Can't wait to try this on my new Z9. I love how it shoots Macro as well as at 105. Thanks for the video

Congrats on the 20k and more so congrats on making it to the "media mail out" list. Great stuff and keep it up. Fingers crossed we will be let out of lockdown at the end of the week!!
Thanks so much Chris, yep it was a surprise to me too. :) Yes I really hope we get out of lockdown this week, I am very excited about stretching the legs of the 105mm and 50mm and I have only 11 days to go with the lenses, and idea keep coming, plus I would love to do some portraits ... Cheers Matt
Love how you really highlighted what is important for both a macro/portrait lens. Great display on its OOF/Bokeh characteristics. Looks extremely good. Being a macro we already know that it’s sharpness will be off the charts. At $1000 Nikon has a real winner on their hands with this 105. As one who already has the 20,50,85 I knew that this would be special and I’m glad that I pre-ordered it. Now I’m excited. Thank you for the great review highlighting what matters to me.
congrats on the 20K super well deserved. This 105 looks like a winner, I have been holding for the Z9, but I just may not be able to wait Z72 anyone? :)

Very nice Matt. Your channel is one of my favorites. Congratulations. Which of the two MC will you keep personally? I think i get 105 for my product photography.
Have you heard about Nikon’s NX Field Remote Shooting System due to be released June 17th? A remote shooting system that allows frontline news reporters to link multiple Nikon DSLRS in the field, allowing to operate and adjust your whole network of cameras with the one camera hooked up to the FTP server. Another good invention from Nikon, and another sign that it’s not quite willing to dump the DSLR.
Congrats on reaching 20k subs, Mattt. Well deserved! That intro with the rgb sequence sync'd with the beat was nice! Your video production quality has been stepping up... do you do all the video shooting and editing yourself?
I do 95% of the shooting FY, and 50-60% of the editing. This video was 100% shot and edited by me. :) I have always loved both processes. Cheers Matt :)

Quite a milestone, and well deserved! Very proud of your achievement, looking forward to climbing to the next one with you as a grateful audience. Kudos at 20k +1! 🎉🥂👏 What an utterly gorgeous, perfect lens. The only thing I don't like is they don't call them Micro Nikor any more, everything else about it seems so right. Wow kudos to Nikon to to let you review this lens and post images. Well done. As an aside Matt do you use tripod much in the city? I know you have fast glass and IBIS but you take a lot of night shots.
Thanks for the great video. I have already ordered mine. :-) Is there a spacer ring (I think there are third party ones?) and how does the lens handle it (lens screen?)? How does it compare to the 70-200 @105mm? Congratulations for the 20k+ subscribers.
I think a lot of people expect a video to be a bit more informative than watching someone open a box. I just want the information. All the box opening flashing lights and music etc does nothing for me. Just wastes time but if you like that fine. I just want a talking head which I appreciate many might find boring but with the constant adverts that also interupt I just want the info.
@@edwardwalker3229 I personally don't like unboxing too but I was interested what matt thinks and in this case the unboxing and music, flashing lights is just what comes with this video, to get to the point that you and I wanted to see, but to be fair the title of the video was exactly what the video showed with added extras, like I said I agree with you BUT I'll not click a video to watch if the title tells me something I'm not interested in, but in this case people did just that, IE first look and unboxing? I know I'll click watch and then give thumbs down because it was accurate.....
@@edwardwalker3229 Thanks for the feedback Edward, it means a lot to me. It is a hard one, as I would prefer the info come to me as a movie, not as a spec sheet. And with 2.3 billion people on UA-cam it is going to be tough to get it right for everybody. :) Seperate to that, in regards to 'down thumbs', to down thumb a video and not comment, (you have and that is awesome) makes it impossible for the video maker to know why the video is down-thumbed. As I watch the thumbs up or down grow, I speculate to myself, is it the video, is it the product, is it the images I took, is it the music, is it the ads, is it the length, is simply somebody that does not like this brand or that brand, is it my accent and the way I say 'Z'ED (yes there have been complaints : ) ). (people complain about what I wear, my hair, the lighting in the video, the resolution, the sound) There are so many reason people will not like a video. And thus, I thank you very much for sharing your thoughts ... This channel where time permits will always be more about the taking of photographs and video, and showing how a product actually works in the real world as opposed to the numbers ... but there is no hard rules, things change. To me the very best in the business at balancing the art and the numbers is ua-cam.com/users/iPhonedoCom stellar on every front and funny. I have a great deal of respect for this man and his channel. @@MattIrwinPhotography Thanks Matt for the thoughtful reply. I did not just for the record thumb down or up the video. I fully understand all the issues you face when making a video with regard to the general public especially in different countries as well. I would run a Mile rather than try that. You are an Australian so be proud of that. Just keep doing it your way it works as 20k views show. Zed & Zee are very good examples of the difference between the USA and the rest of the world. I suppose looking at the spelling either can be right. Start saying Zee now and you will undoubtedly upset a load more so you can't win that one lol
It looks like a great lens! I use the F mount version with my Z6 for underwater macro photography. This lens looks to be sharper and much better for video. Hopefully I will be able to get my hands on one this year!
It really is so far Jack, I will continue to give it a work out over the next week and a half to see what else I can explore. What underwater housing do you use? Cheers Matt
@@MattIrwinPhotography I use the Sea&Sea housing. Judging from the dimensions of the new lens it should fit into my existing housing and port. I sometime use my macro lens for portraits as well and it should be great for that.
The 105mm is my next Z mount lens for sure! Gotta start saving my pennies! I can't wait to see more shots with this lens! I plan to use it on the Z50 for my macro shots. I am looking forward to putting that focus limiter to use! Congratulations on 20,000!
20K well done Matt. On the lens it is aesthetically pleasing for a change and the price is better than expected though with camera gear it is not just a case of translating $999US to $AUD as it always turns out quite a bit more yet this is an affordable lens. but we may be waiting a while to get one as these will sell well l think.
as its captured to display on the lens, I'd really like to see the focal length in the display or evf. A number of times I've just touched the zoom ring - and yes, the lens under review is a prime, but just saying if you're giving genera; feedback. I had to go check, but that Nikkor S ;pro is on all my S lenses - I never noticed before 😂
I am going to get the 105mm f/2.8 Nikkor Micro lens. But the AIS lens, not the S lens :) I don't need autofocus for macro, never use it, and with IBIS in the Z-cameras I won't need the VR either. Besides, most of my macro is done with a tripod. It's a shame that we're not talking more about the amazing vintage or AI/S Nikkor lenses as well, they're amazing, even today, and with the Z-cameras they are so easy to use. That said: Congrats with the 20,000 :) you're doing a great job, keep it up! Hope for you all the best!
What Z body are you using? My experience with 'vintage' lenses - mostly AF-D - on the z7 has been rather disastrous. As for AF for macro, just shot series of dragon flies and butterflies, manual, and I think that fairly speedy AF in that new Z lens would have gotten me way more keepers. In addition to this the AF makes it more usable for other purposes. As for the VR, I think VR and IBIS work together and the usability is improved over IBIS only. That said I don't need that so much, as I need to keep up the shutter speed for moving stuff to begin with.
@@marcusbraun8889 I have the Z5. I used my vintage lenses on a Fujifilm X-T3 before, a 50mm f1.4 NAI, Olympus Zuiko 135mm f3.5, and a Nikkor 200mm f4 AI. While I didn't get them for sharpness, I was always a bit underwhelmed, and didn't use them that much. When I switched to the Z5 they got a new life, even the 50mm is pretty sharp and all of them create good results now. I don't know if it's the X-trans sensor, or maybe because of the extra mp. The Z7 does have a lot of them, so the lenses would have to have good resolution. I can imagine that older lenses might struggle there. You are of course right, when it comes to shooting moving subjects, the new 105mm micro lens is by far the better choice. Also, the AI version is only 1:2 magnification, which I initially didn't consider. I'm not sure how much I need the 1:1 magnification for what I do, but in case I'll have to get a higher magnification, I'll probably get the Laowa 100mm f2.8, with its 2:1 magnification. I don't use autofocus or VR, but for you I totally get the need.
@@peterkaltoft8032 Same experience here, the AF-D 35mm f2, 24mm f2.8, 300mm f4 and AF-S 16-35mm f4 were all fine on the 12mp of the D3. They all need to be stepped down so much to produce as barely usable result that if makes no sense using them. Wide open you just wanna cry. The only one I still use is the 300mm f4, stopped down to f8 (f4 is unusable), with lots of light, and macro extenders at times. It's one hell of a fight (and many frames shot) to get good close up results, not recommended in terms of efficiency... The AF-D 85mm f1.8 is the only one with reasonable sharpness (even quite across the frame) on the z7, but never a sharp as the kit Z 24-70 f4 - and the purple fringing is something else! It's quite staggering how a single Z 27-70mm f4 produces far superior results than a bag of primes from the 90ies.
@@marcusbraun8889 I like the older lenses for the manual focus and smaller sizes, though the difference is limited when using an adapter. I'm saving for the 24-70mm f4, needing it for an all around lens, which I could use so not having to switch lenses. How do you experience the distortion at the wide end on that lens?
@@peterkaltoft8032 Well, I'm certainly getting the Z 28mm f2.8 once it hits the shelves - I need a small-ish (yet versatile) setup myself as I do mostly travel photography, and much of it doing bicycle touring. So I shoot the lot (people, action, scenery, animals, close ups, whatever) but needs to stay portable somehow. Distortion (and vignetting) is corrected by software, so no big deal. I've read that with some software it is possible to extract the uncorrected RAW, and then it has strong distortion, but I have no idea why I would want to do that...
Nikon making gateway products ... like the Z's 50mm 1.2, 50mm 1.8, 70-200 2.8, 24-70 2.8 and more, once you get these lenses on your camera, you can just feel a leap forward ... it is actually quite moving at times ...
Wow the price amazes me . For a top of the line lens that is as useful as a 105 macro with fast dual focusing motors the price seems great. Probably $600 or so less than I was thinking. The price to performance ratio is huge . Almost one of those must own Nikkor lenses as a do it all ...... for its focal length . You likened it to an 85 . Well it’s not but as a portrait lens great focal length and you won’t be limited to the close focusing that some portrait lenses have . This is a lens that can be used for so so much. Now the 50mil macro , I’m not a 50 mil guy but another super super useful lens . I’d say if Nikon would have made this a 40 and macro two birds are killed with one stone . That’s me though but 40 gives just enough width as for group shots , landscape, nature for a cool close up perspective to portraits even wide enough for some cityscape and street photography
What do you think about the redesigned control ring? It looks like they changed the design of the metal base to allow for a larger control ring. Is it more ergonomic than the previous design?
Yes Calibr21, I think it is an advancement, and further away from the camera body, so less likely to knock, when using it in the field a few days ago, I noticed no accidental knocks ... more to come in the full review :) Cheers Matt
Handheld, those images are very good. I use a 180mm Tamron and 105mm Nikon AF-D, both non-VR, and it is difficult to shoot with them handheld in the field. However, the king is still the 200mm f4.
I have started filming the 50mm review, there is similarities and differences ... more soon :) ... I just need one sunny day, the weather here is terrible at the moment, winter has arrived in style :) www.bom.gov.au/vic/forecasts/melbourne.shtml Clouds clouds and more clouds :)

Congratulations on 20k subs and being offered the chance to test the 105S. My heart sank when you started with an unboxing, my thought was “Matt you are better than that” However you included a basic test so all is forgiven. For me a 105 f2.8 micro is a must have lens, my F-mount sees a lot of action especially for portrait. Not sure I would ever use one as a walk around general lens but with all focal lengths using them in unusual ways can achieve surprising results.
Good to finally see Nikon get the glass out to help promote their gear. For too long Nikon seemed to be in a cave concerning advertising and promotion. Spread the word, Nikons glass is epic.
Well done Matt on the milestone.. I will not be ordering one at a grand a pop. About 3 years ago our camera club had a talk from a macro photographer with some really great images. Her gear consisted of a camera body and a Sigma 105 2.8 macro HSM. So I bought that lens and it is a great lens and works fine on my z6ii. So well I could not see any difference between the results from that lens and the "award winning" 1.8 nikor s line lens I bought with the z camera. Well one difference it was less than half the price of the nikkor. So I sold the 1.8 quite quickly after that. The sigma came in a very strong padded zip up case as apposed to the nikkor that just had a bit of cloth for protection. My first Nikon D80 came with a reasonable leather case for protection but the cheapskating Nikon have been doing since then on these things really disappoints me. I think I have now found an adaptor for this lens to take it with me to my new system so I can bow out of the Nikon system. I have waited long enough for the z cameras to be made into the cameras they should have been at launch. I think Sony and Cannon have with their latest announcements shot Nikons fox. Whatever they had in the pipeline for this Z9 is proberly now behind the curve. How Nikon can produce the D850 and D500 and then produce the Z series the way they did total baffles me. My Z 6 ii takes great photos of static stuff. Portraits fine no issues but moving subjects they seem like a huge step backwards. Plus the capabilities on most competitors cameras just leave Nikon z cameras floundering in the dust. You have used other makes so you must know what I mean. The eye tracking on Cannons R 5 is just one example. I don't want to have to carry two cameras around to cover all bases hence moving on as I suspect a lot of others will be doing. Nikon make products for people to buy just like any other company and if the latest products are not what people want then of course the market place rules.
Hi Ed, thanks for your words and detailed message. Best of luck with your new system, I am sure it will serve you perfectly as only you know your needs best, and that is how we should all decide our camera of choice. :) As for Nikon not being able to track moving subjects, it sure can track moving things. The things it cannot track are very fast moving things. So if birds in flight are your bread and butter, or main interest, then you might Z9 or stay with your D500, D6 or D850. Although there are numerous videos online with people working with Z6 II's and Z7 II's and capturing wildlife. Otherwise ... I think the Nikon's stand up well. I recently captured school kids running around playing basketball with the Z 50mm 1.2, and I was very impressed by the results. How much have you shot moving subjects, not BIF's with native Z lenses on your Z6 II and the latest firmware? The statement the Z9 is 'behind the curve' before it arrives is an assumption. None of us outside of Nikon have any idea where it will land. So I am happy to leave statements like that until it has actually arrived. And again I would tender, what does the R5, A1 bring, besides BIF level focus tracking stickyness and 8K, that the Z9 wont have? The Z9 does have the 8K and the focus will be in the same space I suspect, what else are you after Ed? 'Floundering in dust' ... Ed, shoot the 50mm 1.2, the 70-200 2.8 VR S, and now the 105 MC 2.8, to name just a few lenses that will simply have you questioning what is possible with 35mm optically. In some areas Nikon is playing catchup, in some areas they are ahead in my opinion. And in regard to the Z mount and what it offers and the optical formulas Nikon are putting together, I would respectfully suggest Nikon are rubbing shoulders with the best if not ahead optically overall. Pretty much everything about a camera can change with the next body, the next firmware update, but the one thing that is harder to do something about is the mount, and the lenses you can attach to that mount ... I know how I would like to invest in the future, and that is with the mount with the most headroom into the coming decades. The eye tracking in the R3, is super cool, I look forward to seeing how that is implemented. :) What system are you moving to Ed? Cheers Matt
@@MattIrwinPhotography Sorry I didn't notice you had replied again I do apologise for not seeing it sooner. I suppose I fell out with the z6ii the first time I went out to do some wildlife. 402 shots and not one in focus. Or more precisely not in focus where I wanted it to be. I had been after a photo of a Heron locally that frequents the area. That day I couldn't believe my luck I was bang on for a shot of it flying in onto the river. My 500 would have had a series of shots to show at the club but I didn't have a single one in focus. Had I loads of money that camera would have had a float test right there and then. But I do watch Steve at Back Country Gallery as well and bought his book on the mirroless Nikon focusing and following his instructions with the wide area small and single point you can get results. If you get the subject to fill that area of the frame then you are in with a shout. Just try and keep the centre point on the critical target like we did years ago manually focusing at the same time as well. (At least the 6ii does auto focus on something ). I don't feel now being retired that I can justify two cameras as I have always only ever had one. I expect my camera to be a general be able to too anything I want. I had tracking with the 500 which was good and I feel the z's should do at least as well. I don't always take pictures of people running or dogs or cats. It does do them fine or at least as well as the 500 did so no issue there. The features where they are way out now I am looking which really made me think. Wildlife tracking obviously but that Cannon latches on like a magnet and like you this focus where you look feature I really want to see.A friend has lent me an Olympus as he swears by it. That has a number of features. It can take 80 Meg pics of a stationary subject. No blackout on burst shooting. 30fps if you want. Pro capture. That's what I meant about leaving Nikon in the dust really. I do not use the 14 frame burst as it is pointless as after the first 3 or 4 shots you aren't on the target anymore as Steve so graphically demonstrated in one of his videos so I usually just shoot by taking shots singly and quickly as I can keep on target better like that. I am having a go with another friends Cannon this weekend next. That I am looking forward too as well. One point where it beat the Olympus hollow was low light. I took a 4 sec shot in my bedroom with just the light from the numbers of a digital clock illuminating the lampshade. The image through the viewfinder was truly dreadful but the actual shot was actually quite good if you didn't crop it much it was recognisable. The Olympus needed the auto assist light to show the target and the shot was a lot noisy than the z. I just think now that with the Cannon and Sony announcements it is hard to see how Nikon can better them. You may know much more than me about what is what as I am just a Hoby photographer but no final decision yet but the Olympus takes good shots is a lot smaller and cheaper than ff. If the Cannon betters it then that may be the way ahead. Cheers Edward
Glad to see the growth of your channel! Your video production quality is 12/10! Great work! Can’t wait to see more of the 105mm
Thanks a ton Nicholas. :) Cheers Matt
Congratulations on your 20k milestone! I'm happy to have helped you get there with my sub :) Wishing you all the best going forward!
Awesome! Thank you so much Frederick :)
Congrats on the 20k. I have pre-ordered my 105mm already. Now, after seeing this video, I want it to arrive soon! I think we are looking at late July here in Canada. Cannot wait!
Thank you Matt, for a very no noisy, simple to the point presentation of Nikon105mm MC, f2.8 S Lens.
Cheers Rajendra :)
That Bokeh is mind-blowingly good. I expected the perfect sharpness, aberration correction, build quality etc., but to have amazing bokeh as well? Nikon are smashing it.
YEP SLR, it is very impressive so far :) Are there Soviet Z mount lens available? Cheers Matt
@@SovietLensReviews Cool, any Soviet lenses you would recommend to try out ... sounds really interesting :)
NL, Europe: picked up my production NIKKOR Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S today. First impression: much lighter in weight than the visual imprint suggests.
13:44 WOW! That stabilization is just awesome for video
Yep Ramon, the IBIS and VR seem to be working really well ... :) Cheers Matt
Congratulations on the milestone Matt! And so happy that you got the 105 to review as well as Nikon is giving you the opportunity to do it!
Cheers Homi :)
Hi Matt. Congratulations! Very happy for you. You have a unique style and your videos are very nice to watch. All the best!

The sharpness of the Z macro lens is in a whole different class than my old 105mm VR F mount macro lens.
Happy New Year Matt. I could not resist and just ordered one of these. Can't wait to try this on my new Z9. I love how it shoots Macro as well as at 105. Thanks for the video

First look and unboxing and yet 8 thumbs down? What was they expecting? There are some sad clueless people around, great show as always mate
Good question John, yeah I am not sure what the issue is ... ah well can't please everybody, not bad from 7000 views (so far). Cheers Matt :)
Seperate to that, in regards to 'down thumbs', to down thumb a video and not comment, (you have and that is awesome) makes it impossible for the video maker to know why the video is down-thumbed.
Warm Regards Matt

I'm selling my 200mm F lens and getting this one! Thanks Matt!
Might be the first lens ever that I pre-order, exciting!
The first one I have ever pre-ordered too! 😀
👍👍👍
I want to buy one of those Macro 105's even though I don't have a Z camera. It looks beautiful
Incredible. The last comment I made on your last video was apparently foreshadowing.
Yep I had meant to reply, that it was an interesting article and comment. Thanks mozman :) Cheers Matt
Yep I think it is very usable handheld in the field, the VR and IBIS combined so far feels good, I shall do more testing for the full review :)
looking forward to a review on the 50mm. do you expect it to behave in a similar way?
I have started filming the 50mm review, there is similarities and differences ... more soon :) ... I just need one sunny day, the weather here is terrible at the moment, winter has arrived in style :) www.bom.gov.au/vic/forecasts/melbourne.shtml Clouds clouds and more clouds :)
Amazing video (and lens!), thanks! Just purchased a Z6ii last week (24-70f4 kit) and am loving the overall blend... certainly miss aspects of Canon/Sony (even my D200), but think it is the best overall system for pricepoint. I notice that I loved the on-screen text, lines, etc. on your video and am curious what program/plugins you are using? Thanks Matt, Sub'd and plan to watch all your videos lol... do you have a preferred settings video for the "Zed" mount?
Thanks Chad, Final Cut Pro and plug ins from MotionVFX, they have tons, you can choose the ones the suite your taste :). I will create a video about how I set up my cameras very soon :) Cheers Matt
@@MattIrwinPhotography Thanks so much Matt! Great job. Having now watched several of your videos I love how professional they appear and as a software engineer personally appreciate the precise graphical elements you use to highlight with.
Maybe next year👍
Hello mate! Thanks for your nice videos! And I love your aussie accent! In your private opinion, what is the best lens? The Micro Nikkor 105 with F Mount and FTZ adapter? Or the Micro Nikkor with Z mount? Keep up the good work! LIselotte in Karlstad, Nikonian since 1978 (First was FE)
Hi Liselotte, thank you so much. What camera body are you working with? Cheers Matt
Hello again! Thanks for answering! Now I have the D500. But when I have money, I'm thinking of buying the Z6II. I already have the Micro Nikkor 105, F but is it good enough? Best wishes!
@@liselottefrejdig1112 Im the same as you, but with a Z7. I just bought the Zmount 105mm. I think if you have the new Z mount cameras you need to respect them with great Z mount glass.
Damm now I want one
Me too :)
Hello Matt! Thanks for the video! I've got a question about Peak Design straps you use: which one would you recomend to use on D750 and Z6? Many thanks!
Sir these are the ones I use amzn.to/3ptvOyP from Amazon via affiliate :) You can use these for all cameras, and I have them on about 6 bodies now, with zero problems :) I really think they work super well. Cheers Matt
@@MattIrwinPhotography yeah, theese are anchors but which strap you use with it?
@@loihpatli this is the ones I use, not sure still widely available, but I did find them at a store here in Australia www.digidirect.com.au/crumpler-convenient-disgrace-black?gclid=Cj0KCQjw5PGFBhC2ARIsAIFIMNd5PvBaPE-bqtO61mmmR_ZVUWElmUmMOKxKgJyXyzsGYk6QY0_-LNwaAtXVEALw_wcB :)
As for Nikon not being able to track moving subjects, it sure can track moving things.
What system are you moving to Ed?
Cheers
Matt
I’ll getting one without question. I’m still using the D version.
CN I use this lens on my Nikon Z62?
Yes for sure, on any Z mount camera :)
Congratulations! Best Wishes and Success for the future.
Thanks so much Randall, cheers Matt
