I once met and spoke with Henry Dreyfuss, designer of the 20th Century Limited and much else, in the 1960s. He was a visiting professor at UCLA and our industrial design class visited his home and office in Pasadena. He was one of the 3 founders of the American Industrial Design Association (with Raymond Lowey and Walter Dorwin Teague). A very cordial gentleman and warm host. I still remember the visit as if it was yesterday. Wonderful times!
I’m jealous af
It’s very sad that he committed suicide
@@Leatherface123. wait really!?
@@bofan4513 yes I’m the 1970s he convinced his wife to commit suicide with him
@@Leatherface123. oh thats so sad such a great man to do that...
When you see a Amtrak at 80mph, remember that in the past were faster steam locomotives
David ii Amtrak was always slow
Apollo Gaming 43 plus more late too
CXR 2000 that too
David ii Yeah, well back then they didn’t have to limit at 79 mph so cab signals weren’t necessary.
Before 1900 you could get to Buffalo faster. And to Chicago? Way faster.
Narrator : "Right on time."
Amtrak : Wait, thats illegal.
nyc and me: u are ailega
Mario, NYC & me: nope you are illegal bruh.
People: Name the trains Amtrak has that are almost always on time. Amtrak: Acela service and Empire Builder on most trips. People: Ok and how many trains do you have? Amtrak: Too many to count
Amtrak is normally a smooth ride on where I ride on it, so it may just be the trackage
@@usstiger_cd4165 yeah
ONLY IF THEY CAN STAY ON THE RAILS
That scene of the central and broadway side by side would be the most magical thing to see in real life
Yeah, however it would have been cooler if that Broadway Limited trainset was pulled not by K4s (albiet a very nice looking streamlined K4s) but instead by a T1.
It would look a little odd due to the difference in size
@@swordkirbyfilms7747 Well, perhaps it wouldn't look so out of place if the 20th Century Limited was also pulled by a Niagara and both had a heavy-weight consist.
True that
My great great grandpa saw it
“...Right on time.”
Amtrak: What is that?
thanks to freight trains they'll never be on time
Caleb Rimer not their decision.
Empire Builder recently: AM I A JOKE TO YOU?! Almost every day, it's been on time recently.
@@jd0192 which is why passenger trains would be better off if operated by the railroads who own the track
An Amtrak Train I rode, Train #59 City Of New Orleans was 10-15 Minutes Late. However, When We were First going to get On to New Orleans, It was only 2 Minutes Early.
Now its about time for the 21st Century Limited to run
The scene as the Century leaves Grand Central is the best representation of the height of American railroading that I've ever seen.
A beautiful train, it's heartbreaking that none of the NYC Hudson's were preserved following the Dieselization.
I would give anything to ride on the Dreyfuss Hudson from NYC to Chicago
Well At least we got miniature models of it. Maybe someday they'll make it
Jev Way ahead of you! I’ve gotten in touch with a member of the A1 trust and he said he’d help me get started on a project for a Dreyfuss Hudson
Jev. Yeah. Like how they are re-building the prr t1
Yeah. All we can do is hope that one of these guys could be built from scratch.
"One stop is needed from here to Chicago" Jesus, these behemoth's were more efficient than i thought.
For sure
Better believe it, Steam power is no joke
The scene at 12:06 actually had me say "that is so cool" out loud. Awesome model!
Today was the worst day ever, and this video single handedly killed off my sadness
sucks to here you've had a bad man
Same!
Railfan487 Well tomorrow’s Another day we just need to take it one step at a time
One word
Loafrin
This means to get everything out of your head that could cause you to have a bad day.
National Sarcasm Society thanks man I’ll remember that for next time
Dat whistle though. *drools a little*
There was 1 accident for the Dreyfuss Hudson. In 1943, #5450 was pulling the 20th Century Limited when it suffered a boiler explosion. All 3 crew members were killed, and no passengers were injured. The engine was removed from service and not repaired until after WW2 due to a steel shortage.
Where did that happen?
@@tomfields3682, the location is unknown if I recall correctly.
@@nathanielcruz6675 Hi Nathaniel, FYI I googled it and found out the explosion happened at Canastota, about 15 miles east of Syracuse.
@@tomfields3682, oh. Right. Thanks.
MY CHILDHOOD HAS COME TRUE!! THANK YOU TO WHOEVER COMMISSIONED THIS, AND TO K&L THAT MODELED IT AND RELEASED IT! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
And, very nice job with this. Enjoyed the jazz music in this one. Can't wait to get it soon. My NYC collection will be complete. :)
I agrre, although I coulda sworn that the whistle was deeper.
The 20th Century Limited departing NY with swing music playing, Dreyfus Hudson in all it's glory, era cars all along the tracks?!
This video, boys and girls, is possibly Americana heaven!
Hawkeye Ten wait for the Crescent Limited with Country/Blues playing while the glorious Virginia green departs DC bound for Texas
@Piotrek Kowlaski That'll be decided later. I am right now making animations as taking a break from making Trainz simulator videos.
Arrowband Inkling Why more Vu? Just don’t give him attention through those videos.
I travelled aboard 'The Century' ex Chicago to NYC in 1963. Easily one of the best train rides of my life.
1:45. Platform 34 3/4 is right there, straight through that wall.
The Century Limited played a part in one of my favorite movies-“The Sting”. In a poker game where Paul Neumann hooks his mark for the big con.
Beautiful whistle
True but it’s not the most accurate
It sounds more like the K&L Trainz Pete Marquette 1225
Bill Ratner's narration really ties this together quite nicely.
12:03.
NYC: “YOU DARE OPPOSE ME PRR!”
Excellent video. When I was 5 or so I was privileged to witness the steam locos, usually at Union Station in Columbus Ohio. I will NEVER forget the steam blowing in my face or the aroma of the smoke in my nose .Thank you ever so much for posting this wonderful video.
YOU ARE THE BEST TRAIN BUILDER FOR TRAINZ AND N3V
20th Century Limited departing NY with swing music playing, Dreyfus Hudson in all it's glory, era cars all along the tracks?!
This video, boys and girls, is possibly Americana heaven!
I don’t know about that. But thanks!
i mean kl does make the best quality models so yeah kl you are the best trainz builder
One of the main reasons I wanna build a time machine and go back in time is to see this with my very own eyes.
Trust me I’ve been wanting that too more than anything. Hell I would even give up everything I have today to go and stay there forever
@@261fan I would wanna take my son too. This is one of his childhood favorite trains. He is sad that they’re extinct. As a kid he thought that they were still around. I honestly don’t blame him with the sadness he has now. I would wanna raise money to build one, would you join in?
@@saxonaudio I would put money into it until I was broke
@@261fan what! UNTIL YOUR BROKE?!
@@saxonaudio I want one of those things back in this world so bad I would do anything
Man, train travel used to be incredible, classy, and on time in America. What the hell happen?
Amtrak is a shell of what train travel used to be like.
Eisenhower messed it up with the Federal Highway Act and the coming of the Jet Age
Democrats.
Narrator: The 5450 has the train really moving as she pierces through the darkness
Amtrak: Y-Yeah I had my train running at a crazy 10 mph
In the last scene pulling into La Salle Street Station you can clearly see the Chicago Board of Trade annex which was built in 1982.I worked in the CBOT building until I retired in 2020
I LOVE seeing trains running parallel to each other on multiple tracks, especially passenger trains!
U sound like u know not a lot about trains
I have no words to describe how amazing this is.
What a wonderful bedtime story about the world most finest american locomotive to ever run in the 20th centurie. Thank you for makeing my night.
Good idea
Love that whistle on the Dreyfuss Streamliner Hudson.
YES!!! MY MOST FAVORITE STREAMLINER!!! YOU ARE THE BEST DUDE!!!
:D
Roundhouse Warrior thank you for subscribing good sir
Your very welcome friend ;D
Mine too
Same
I am so glad you have brought this beautiful train and steam locomotive into Trainz, Steve. 👏😁
This is not only an amazing showcase for this intricately made dlc content, but a wonderful documentary about the trip the century made while racing between New York and Chicago!
That race scene between the 20th Century Limited and the Broadway Limited made my day.
Your videos are out of this world just exquisite photography and information, Thank-You for going the extra mile, You're an asset to Trainz!
Is this a dream or what!?
I'd love to be able to return to that Era for a day, and take that trip!
Another fantastic model!!!
Excellent video! And an excellent addition to Trainz :-)
Hello, Joe
Thanks!
Approach Medium hi joe
Approach Medium can you make a NYC route? I’ll download it :D thanks!
The scene with the broadway limited and the 20th century special was my favorite part of the promo
This is just fantastic. The production quality is just top notch. Incredible work.
I've seen so many B&W photos of the streamlined Century. So, to see color video of the Century is almost unreal. I really enjoyed it.
Absolutely Fantastic!!
K&L trainz you have done it again! Thank you so much for the awesome and most realistic trains for trainz simulator! Also I can’t wait to see the MILW S3 Northern and the GTW Northern and many more Steam locomotives you’re going to make in the future as well! And I can’t wait to get the train as well keep it up and keep on steaming down the tracks!
Just beautiful ! thanks for sharing Wales UK.
Incredibly beautiful
Fantastic work as always K&L Trainz!
What a great video. Thank you so much.
That was totally fantastic!!!
An epic! Amazing work, guys.
what a masterpiece. to be half british damn. thats what i call good american content. good show old chap.
Thanks, enjoyed this very much.
Very well done !! I feel like I just stepped back in time. Great music throughout, as well.
I love American trains and the New York Central is one of my favourites
Yes! DREYFUSS!!! Been waiting for weeks!
I hope you add the L3 Mohawk #3001.
And maybe some others.
The Mohawk is already In Trainz.
So it would be kinda pointless.
@@RandomE60 If you mean the old model, then yeah it is in Trainz, but K&L is remaking the L4b Mohawk. I was saying that I was hoping that he would eventually add a Mohawk that still exists in preservation today. The 3001 is an L3a and it is one of quite the handful of Mohawk classifications. But now that K&L is remaking the L4b, then I’m not hoping for the L3a anymore. Idk why you think it is pointless, K&L did make a mega pack of the same type or class of locomotives before, he did it with Reading T1. But I get your point.
Awesome engine steve! Just fabulous job!
Steam Locomotives are iconic.
YYEEESSS!!!!!!! Finally we have a good NYC 4-6-4 J-3 Hudson (Holy Crap that was a lot) 20th Century Limited for Trainz! I am definitely getting this!
Phenomenal work! 👍🏻👌🏻👏🏻😍😎
“Right on time”
Amtrak: is that some kind of personal attack or something?
great job on the NYC 20th Century Limited 100/10
can't wait for more streamliners to add to your roster as well as more projects. (and sorry about the future project things to everyone I'll stop now)
Best one yet!!!!!!!!
This was the true height of civilization. I'm a PRR modeler, but this is just plain beautiful.
Glad you enjoy the beauty of Art Deco! It truly fit the bill of modernization.
Excellent documentary showing good explanations and information needed.
The J3As were nicknamed “super-Hudsons” right?
Matt the Terrier I thought so, I’ve heard that they had a tendency to bend their rods because they were too powerful. An interesting problem
@@CoalChrome They actually brought the boiler psi from 275 to 265 at one point because of that, same with the Niagaras. Those lightweight roller bearing rods don't handle well under extraneous horse power.
@@KLTrainz guess we found out why the UP never used them. I guess the N&W folks just knew how to ease in the Js, also they weren't on constant throttle.
I got a question, weren't the whistles deeper than that? Also, I request the NYC 2-6-6-2 mallets, didn't they have a couple Shays as well?
The J3s were so good, they had to be nerfed
This looks like a must-get!
Dude I can watch this every morning while eating cottage cheese I’m getting mad vibes from it man I love it
Can’t wait, Gonna buy this train later. Keep up the good work Steve! ;)
Do the NYC J1es including 5344 which is my favorite Hudson of all NYC J class Hudsons!
Fascinating video...!
Long awaited!
Really well made video, thanks for your work!
Very Nice. Back in 1998 the Adirondack Scenic RR took on the 20th Century’s paint Scheme that was cool. Which they kept it instead of the new colors.
Great video presentation. Thank you.
This video still deserves a million views.
I like the design and the sound ! Woow!!!?
The 20th Century Limited was the premier passenger train of the old New York Central, rivaled only by the Pennsy’s Broadway Limited as they battled for dominance over the New York City to Chicago journey. Although none of the Dreyfuss Hudsons are preserved, the train’s legacy lives on in the form of the observation car from the 1948 consist, the Hickory Creek. And I know you don’t have any plans to make it yet, Mr. Lerro, but I look forward to you eventually making the Empire State Express, not that I’m asking you to.
Very nice presentation! Really enjoyed this.
Another great video Sir! Awesome release
Beautiful model as always merry Christmas ;D
Amazing work!
Amazing! Very impressive!
Thank you
I may be a Frisco fan... but... EVERYONE START SCREAMING!!!!!!!!!! 8D
REEEEEeEEEeEE
Gotta love them presentation's and narration.😶
Also, AMAZING! 😆
This is a fantastic train and fantastic narration really brings the spirit of these trains alive! Keep up the amazing work on the models & Videos
I started writing the script for this promo back in May, a few lines in, I knew the perfect voice for the job!
Fact: 5450 Was actually a "Super Hudson" with the Centipede tender and it was also Non streamlined.
Nice Model Steve! Definitely a great thing to add to your roster!
It looks awesome!
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can’t wait to buy this
I have been to most all these locations , dude you nailed it again . Well done !!
Best. Promo. Yet.
Nicely done!
All I have to say is wow, just wow. This is probably the best video you've ever done. And this Hudson just became my all-time favorite model you've done (Besides the Class A 1218). The passenger cars make it even better
I'm very proud of how this production turned out. I started almost 6 months ago on it and finally got down and dirty with in about 3 weeks ago. I'm beyond happy with the results. I've grown quite fond of this trainset after working on building them. It must have been a sight to see for sure! Theres been talks of an EM1 with a customer, so you never know!
That hard work paid off for sure. You deserve every compliment you get. These models are just incredible and once I get Train Simulator, I'm definitely gonna consider getting some of these. May I ask which game do you use for these videos (Which version of Trainz)?
@@railfanjackson4531 It's listed in the Credits at the end. Trainz: A New Era with the SP3 update.
