A tip I usually suggest to new painters is to practice on cheap green army men (I do not know if you have those in the Philippines). Green army men are really inexpensive and they are larger than our typical figures so they are good practice. Their details are not as sharp. I still use them when I want to try new techniques. Another thing I do is I use separate water for metallic and non-metallic paints. This helps keep the metallic flakes out of the non-metallic colours. That's it, pancit.
@@DonSuratos lol, so many reasons, my good man! But in a nutshell: -I learn something new with every video you post! -My painting skillz have greatly improved since I discovered your channel. -"Lazy wash" always makes me giddy every time you say it. And makes me feel more guilty when I do it.
Thank you so much Don for this video. I went to my local game shop and bought a few Deep Cuts figures and some Army Painter paints. This coming week I am going to start painting.
Been mini painting only a few years now and after watching this video my initial reaction was meh, didn't learn anything new... but I just tried pre-wetting before applying wash and it worked well. Gong to have to add that tool in my belt. Thanks Don!
I really enjoyed this. A well done back to basics, entry level introduction to figure painting. Even as someone who has painted fantasy miniatures for years I still like to see videos like this with painters that show their techniques that got them started. Even others "basic" techniques may be something new to experienced figure painters to add to their knowledge. Or it may be a good way to get someone to review their methods at the "basics" level and refresh.
Woot! Thanks! I tried to make it as basic as I can. No wet palette and kolinsky brushes. Not as fun of course... but very refreshing in a way. Hope a first time painter find this video useful. ☺️
I think a lot of other tutorials kind of assume you understand these basics and just say thin your paint etc. Really appreciate the content and explanation for the process.
Hoping this helps first time painters. I am also guilty of assuming basics in my other videos. I also keep on saying that my other vidos are for beginners, and yet I use pro tools like wet palette and kolinsky brushes. 😅
I have another tip that helped myself into hobby - find local 3d print service (using local forums, facebook, modelling groups and ebay-like platforms near you) and print a dirty cheap model that you LOVE. The most important part to get into a hobby (like I did) it has to be something you are VERY interested. Cyberpunk, warhammer, fantasy, DND, army models - pretty much anything. Green army men or plastic animals from toy stores a good alternatives but you will be much less motivated! P.s. Also you could try to buy already printed model of thematics you love!
the way I like explaining the background to foreground thing is paint your miniature like you're dressing him up. so balat muna tapos yun inner layers of clothing bago yun outer garments.
I need more help with using inks. I tried zenithal and then S75 olive ink + Valejo glaze medium on a old metal plague monk and it looks AWFUL. I feel like I'm missing something. I dont want to have to keep relying on Contrast paints.

Great suggestion bro! Thanks... pinned your comment! ☺️🎨🎨🎨
Excelent! that's a good idea! i will try that! thank you!
I've been hobbying for a FEW years and it's still fun to watch "beginner" vids and refresh the basics.
Thanks bro! But this is not easy when you are used to your kolinsky brushes and wet palette already. 😅
Great stuff friend 👏 👍
Thank you as always Mark! ☺️🎨🎨🎨
Don Suratos you're the gift that keeps on giving!
Huh bro? Why? ☺️😅

Super helpful, thank you.
Awesome! Thanks! 😊🎨🎨🎨
Great video, specially for beginners. Instead of back to forground, I would say from inner most to outer most layer.
Actually I was struggling so much on what to call it! Haha. Thanks Gabriel! ☺️🎨🎨🎨
Nice tutorials for basic painting minis, my bro. Thanks and success
Thank you as always bro! ☺️🎨🎨🎨
Very Cool! I subscribed-
Easy to follow techniques!
Thank you! A ton of videos to dig in bro. ☺️🎨🎨🎨

Ahhhh... the wet the midel technique. I actually do it a lot on bigger models. Usually mecha. ☺️🎨🎨🎨
Good post Don 👍👌🍺
Thank you as always A. Burns 🎨🎨🎨
Awesome!!!

ito na ata ang pinakafavorite kong video so far sa mga nailabas mo.
Struggled so much on how to call it sir. 😅
Thanks sir! Not easy actually as I am used to my kolinskys and wet palette. 😅
Thats the same exact model I picked up as a first wizkids model when I started
Woot! Awesome! ☺️🎨🎨🎨
Saludos Don! Thanks for the tips!!!
You are most welcome! ☺️🎨🎨🎨
Clear overall instructions thanks! I probably use valejo next time :)
Oh thanks! Any hobby acrylic paint would do, just be wary of the cheaper acrylic paints labeled as hobby paints. 😉🎨🎨🎨

Hmmm... What is olive ink? Vallejo does not have olive ink bro? ☺️
@@DonSuratos Scale 75 Inktensity Olive. I wonder if I should Zenithal and Sketch highlight with warmer colors instead of pure white?
How long u hve to wait for 2 thin coat?
Just a few minutes, maybe 1 to 2 minutes or less. Depends on your weather. ☺️
Perseonally, I think metalic paint works really good when they are thinned by Airbrush thinner. I don't know why.
Yes... the thinner dissove them better. But still never overthin. ☺️
First !!!
You're third Frankie! 😅💙🎨🎨🎨
Oooppsss
No no, me me
Haha! 😅
