Hunter's constant denial of Belos' evil acts draws back to King's quote at the start of the episode. "No one wants to think they've wasted their life following the wrong person. You just gotta find something big to change their minds" Hunter was literally created by Belos. Hunter's been serving Belos for as long as he can remember. Hence why he defended Belos so fiercely, until the big thing that changed his mind happened which has him discovering he's a Grimwalker.
Actually, blending horror and comedy is very very common in Kids' entertainment. Though ToH certainly goes further down the Horror aspect than most, building it into its very aesthetic, rather than individual storylines
Horror/comedy is a common combination in general, because they're both about an intrusion that disrupts the normal/expected flow of life. The only difference is that in horror that intrusion is perceived as a threat and in comedy it's not. So you can easily shift from one to the other just by changing the tone. (That's also why it's so easy to make horror trailers for comedy movies and vice versa.)
I personally love seeing you react to these episodes out of context; I've always wondered what people would think of them on their own, but almost no one reacts to them in that format. This is really cool!
Yeah, people are critcizing this format but it's honestly an interesting way to enjoy the show. We have plenty of traditional reaction channels but not a lot that do this.
Its always so entertaining to know the backstory of a show and watch someone react to it without knowing much especially when they are this fun to watch.
The whole discovery about Hunter being a grimwalker not only puts a lot of things in perspective, but with context hits just so much worse. That kid has gone and is going to be going through so much trauma before and after this episode.
Fun fact: Hollow mind is not only the highest rated episode, it’s also the darkest episode that somehow has funny moments that make me laugh, and unexpected moments that surprise me. And that is why this episode of the owl house is so highly rated.
Ooooh very very very bad idea to watch it without having seen the first season entirely 😂 I guess, congratulations for discovering a bunch of traumatized kids without any context!
Yessss so much context is missing. When people just do reactions to highlights and stuff, I feel like it’s just for the surprise/shock factor? Not appreciating a show truly
@@ParsureArtsthat’s literally what this channel is though. Watching things out of context, listing to the music and watching best and worst episodes. It’s not a full reaction channel like you think it is. Everything has “No context”
Palismans are the witches staffs, like Flapjack, Hunters bird. In the sigil memory Belos crushed something, it was a Palismans in it's domant state. He's been consuming them to prolong his life and power. The previous "Hunters" didn't have Palismans... Flapjacks origins are mind-blowing.
So in this word, witches can have a palisman, a sort of magical totem that sits at the top of their staff. A palisman is craved from wood and contains magical essence, and can switch between living and wooden form. A palisman can be bound to witches, humans, and demons, it's a companion that can helps them amplifying their magic.
The owl house is definitely my favorite show of all time, its one of the darkest yet also most beautiful shows out there. Also the contrast between much of season 1 being funny adventures with hints of overarching narrative and then the s1 finale onwards it becomes so much darker and becomes so story driven and just ah i love it so much.
If you wanna watch another episode I’d suggest “Labrinth runners” because it’s shows how Hunter is like after of the events of “hollow mind” P.S I would highly recommend watching all the owl house episodes. It’s an amazing show with a mixture of horror and comedy and can really play with your emotions, but it’s up to you!
To be fair... Every episode after this one is a banger. Eddas Requiem is another amazing stand alone episode. Bring tissues. The show is a whole is really well done but this is when things start really picking up from a plot perspective. That being said if you were only going to do a limited number of reactions, I would react to all of season 3. It's basically written like a feature-length film with three 55 min long episodes. (They technically got cancelled during the pandemic so they ended up with a short season but honestly I think that pressure made them turn out something genuinely amazing.) In my opinion it's definitely the best Owl House has to offer and they did not skimp on the animation budget.
5:19 that is what we call the "sunk cost fallacy," in which a person is reluctant to abandon a strategy or course of action because they have invested heavily in it, even when it is clear that abandonment would be more beneficial
There is a reason this is one of the highest rated. So much lore dropped here and so many questions answered. It's probably one of the most rewatched as well. I know you can't watch everything, but this is worth a full watch. It's completed now.
I love how much you can understand from this episode alone, some context isn't really there but you did get the Hunter being a clone right. Also, the palicemen are the staff thingies, they are like little magic animals that turn into staffs, and Belos has been basicly eatting their souls to stay alive.
This is what makes The Owl House so beloved. The creators didn't care about just pleasing the Disney executives, but for telling a story that was both fun and thought provoking, and it is very intelligently written. Even now it feels weird thinking about how much the characters grow and change through the series, but it never comes off as forced.
Hollow Mind is one of my favorite episodes of the Owl House and it was both fun to see you react to it in general and cool to see you be able to put pieces together without having any context whatsoever. Hunter is a huge fan favorite and this episode was incredible.

Hollow Mind is definitely 100% a masterpiece. It also came out on my birthday last year 😊. No doubt, the darkest episode of The Owl House. It was like psychological horror for Luz and Hunter. I genuinely wanted to crawl through the screen and give Luz and Hunter a hug 😔. But seriously, everything in Hollow Mind form start to finish is absolutely amazing. The way they told 2 stories at the same time, the main one on screen with Luz and Hunter going through Belos's mind, and Belos's backstory with his older brother in the paintings, amazing storytelling. The way the paintings throughout the episode just get darker by the end, when you find out that Belos/Philip killed his brother. When we find out what the sigil's are really meant for/what the Day of Unity really is, and finding the hallway of all the Grimwalkers that Belos's made of his brother, then murdered when they didn't live up to his expectations/standards 😔. The way Hunter goes from being happy and feels proud about being the Golden Guard, to completely traumatized after learning the truth about his life and identity being a lie is incredibly sad 😔, then him realizing that Belos might kill him if he returns to the castle in a panic attack, which was just heartbreaking to watch, this poor boy. Luz realizing that Belos is Philip, and that she helped him by accident was also heartbreaking to watch her breakdown. This episode was really dark and intense. 10/10 episode. I also want to congratulate the voice actor's because they did an incredible job. Hunter's voice actor (Zeno Robinson) really delivered that panic attack at the end of the episode.
Yeah the owl house is an amazing show and it always gets better i really recommend watching it if you were interested, i mean after this video I can't imagine anyone wouldn't be interested in this freaking show
You’re reaction to this episode was absolutely perfect especially since you managed to figure out some of the lore from this ep alone. If you want to watch more episodes, two episodes I can recommend are either “knock knock knockin’ on hooty’s door” or “kings tide”. Or if you want another episode focusing on Luz and Hunter you could watch “hunting palismen”. Other then that, I loved this video!
The Owl House is one of my favorite shows ever and is totally worth you watching!! Really connects with the audience on a different level than anything I’ve ever seen.

Amphibia is the Owl House's sister show you should check that one out too! Most episodes are double episodes ie 1 episode is actually 2 different half episodes. I'd recommend toad tax / prison break for a random episode
This episode also draws a lot of comparisons to an earlier episode called ‘Understanding Willow’. I would recommend seeing the whole show, either reacting for your channel, or just in your own time.
Explanation to the covens: The sigils on the arm restricts what kind of magic they can use for example if you have an abomination sigil you'll only use abomination magic, so you can't use any other magic like eda (Hope this helps)
Ohh please watch the episode „Eda‘s requiem“. It’s my favorite because it seems really sweet and adventures but if you really look into it you can see how dark that episode really is.
i really wish this show wasnt cancelled because Belos' story had so much potential to be probably a whole season of its own. he was such a well-written, unique and genuinely terrifying villain but in the end we only got bits and pieces of his backstory. and while i liked the finale as a whole, the end to his character arc was somewhat disappointing. i would recommend you watch Knock Knock Knockin' on Hooty's Door, which comes before this episode actually, because it contains some of the most notable character developments and lore in this series, despite everyone thinking it was just going to be a silly filler episode. loved this video!
belos consumes the souls of palismen to like fuel himself, so the other belos in his mind is a conglomeration of all the souls he ate. also for further clarification on hunter and the other golden guards - belos came to the boiling isles with his brother caleb as witch hunters, caleb fell in love with a witch, belos felt betrayed and killed him, he cloned him and made him golden guard, he killed that clone after getting betrayed again and then continued with that cycle for hundreds of years, with hunter being the most recent iteration.
HOLY FRICKING CRAP!!! WHEN I SAW YOUR MLB VID WITH THIS CONCEPT I WAS LIKE “aw man, wish he got to do it for the owl house” BUT NOW MY WISH CAME TRUE *AAAAAAAAAAH-*
“Any other episodes you want me to watch?” The whole show man, your reactions are so entertaining and I feel like, based of this reaction, you’d enjoy it
20:23 Yeah you wanted his motive there it is. The guy is a witch hunter "Thou shall not suffer a witch to live." so when he ended up in a dimension full of witches he started planning mass genocide, as God intended(Being sarcastic here).
I love your reactions and how you pick up subtle details that are hard to notice in a first reaction. But when you mentioned the lovely frames in that part (8:44) it made me really happy, because one of the things that makes this episode so great is that in addition to revealing a huge main plot point of the show, it also opens up a story being told in the background with those paintings. this is AMAZING!!
To explain better, with the paintings in the background we have a context of what "GreenWalkers" are. We have two young people who are very close, one with brown hair who is younger, and one with white hair who is older, who is similar to Hunter, the older one plays with the younger one and makes him a wooden mask, just like the child who follows Luz and Hunter, but is shown in the background of the two men with torches and pitchforks, and when they grow up, the older one approaches a woman who creates fire with her hands, and the more young feels betrayed by this. One day, already adults, the youngest interrupts the older and the supposed witch, who was now pregnant, there is a painting of a spell being cast by the witch, an image of the youngest all melted green and with bright blue eyes, just like the monster in the episode, and the oldest hugging him. However, in another painting we have the oldest lying on the floor and a knife nearby with the reflection of Belos, the youngest. Theories made up because of this episode showed that Belos had an older brother, who fell in love with a witch right in the human era of the witch hunts, in the 1600s and something, and feeling betrayed and thinking that his brother was bewitched, he killed and came to the world of demons/witches to kill all existing magical beings, hence the draining spell with the sigils he put on his wrist. He wanted to cause mass genocide with a lie that the Titan spoke to him, and used clones of his dead brother to do his dirty work. too sick
This show is actually what taught me that a well written panic attack is enough to trigger one of my own. it wasn’t this episode specifically, it was another one, but the ending reminded me of that. this show has some pretty awesome and powerful writing.
I JUST Finished The Owl House like yesterday, my girlfriend discovered it and showed it to me. I HIGHLY Recommend watching it, there's 2 seaons with a long 3 Episode Finale and it's ALL so good!
I recommend season four episode six of Orphan Black out of context. One of the best episodes of the best show I’ve ever watched. The first time I watched that episode I had to call my friend to come over and watch it again with me just so I had someone to cry with. Highly recommend, it’s completely devastating with context and I’m curious if it also is without
After watching Hollow Mind, I highly recommend watching the episode Thanks To Them The Owl House first episode of Season 3 also a masterpiece, and pretty much like the second part to this episode, that's what it felt like.
for context because i need to talk about TOH to get over my sobbing that it ended: Hunter is the golen guard, belos, aka the empeors right hand man. The three people in the beginning who wanted to go in belos's mind are Darius (the tall purple one lmao-), Raine (the other one:,) ) and Eberwolf (the tiny one) they wanted to go into belos's mind because they were looking for information about the day of unity, a day where they basically drain the magic of anyone with a coven sigil. (obviously, he lied about it because no ones gonna want that to happen) Darius, Raine, and Eberwolf were trying to figure out more about it so that they can help stop it. But as shown, Hunter and Luz got trapped there in his mind. Hunter saw Belos as family, and he didn't wanna believe he had bad intentions. He also didnt know he was a grimwalker, he always thought he was just a powerless witch. grimwalkers are basically clone. Belos cloned his brother, Caleb, because i have no idea- but hes made many clones in the past, which is why theres all of those old golden guard helmets and memories of past golden guards that sound like him. And if you look in the background of his mind, you can see pictures of Belos and Caleb, but Caleb is crossed out in every photo. The reason why Belos hates witches so much is because he thought they were evil. He cloned his brother, i believe because Caleb had gotten in a relationship with a witch. he didnt like that and tried to k*ll the witch, but ended up k*lling his brother, with what looks to be no regret f*cked up, ik- i apologize if this doesn't make much sense, my brain is rotting atm edit: also, eda has been punished, but she lost all her powers so theres no point in trying to do anything because she cant even use magic anymore. She was gonna be turned to stone, but was saved and her sister shared her curse with her which got rid of both of their powers
You should watch the season two finale of Amphibia “True Colors” out of context! It’s the sister show to The Owl House and that episode in particular is so crazy it was pulled from the Disney Channel an hour before it was supposed to air and delayed for a month. They got cold feet over whether or not they could air it at all. For context of why, the human characters in the show are 13 years old.
Belos's ultimate goal involves power, but, moreso glory; he wants to be seen as the hero who exterminated all the witches. All. His goal is literally genocide, then to be held up as the savior by 'normal' humans.
please make a series out of it like with ever after hight the owl house is amazing and i would love to see you watch it from first to 3rd season the character developments are amazing and the story is so interesting^^
I’m actually so happy someone is watching the owl house episodes with no context. And it’s even better that you’re doing it!!! I’ve always tried to find those kind of videos. Also, there are so many episodes I want to see out of context for the owl house, such as Enchanting Grom Fright

The sigils on the arm restricts what kind of magic they can use for example if you have an abomination sigil you'll only use abomination magic, so you can't use any other magic like eda
(Hope this helps)
Well since you reacted to The Owl House, you're now obligated to watch Amphibia next.
Oh crikey! He's doing it!
Crikey 🤩👍🏻
Crikey!
crikey! if you know you know lol
Crikey‼️‼️
I love that there are words you can say that refer to specific moments in the show and (for the most part) only TOH fans will understand lmao
“Some of these pictures are so adorable!”
No. Lol the deeper meaning is actually rlly sad
“Don’t know who this guy is”
That, is the best character in the entire show
belos consumes the souls of palismen to like fuel himself, so the other belos in his mind is a conglomeration of all the souls he ate. also for further clarification on hunter and the other golden guards - belos came to the boiling isles with his brother caleb as witch hunters, caleb fell in love with a witch, belos felt betrayed and killed him, he cloned him and made him golden guard, he killed that clone after getting betrayed again and then continued with that cycle for hundreds of years, with hunter being the most recent iteration.
Oh I’m sure a _lot_ of people are going to be really happy you’re reacting to _The Owl House,_ especially for an episode this well-loved. 😆
AYYYY LETS GO YOU BE DIGGIN UP ALL MY FAV CARTOONS-
I love your reactions and how you pick up subtle details that are hard to notice in a first reaction.
He wanted to cause mass genocide with a lie that the Titan spoke to him, and used clones of his dead brother to do his dirty work. too sick
I’m so happy that you liked this episode, because I remember watching it premiere and losing my (hollow) mind 😭
everyone hating on Matt for watching in the middle, Im here excited for the unique perspective
still cant believe disney allowed this episode but im so fricking glad they did
You definitely should watch it. So much lore, character development, and trauma
Oh no hollow mind
Highly recommend, it’s completely devastating with context and I’m curious if it also is without
💀
The reason this episode is so highly rated is because it has so many twists and reveals from the og plot
After watching Hollow Mind, I highly recommend watching the episode Thanks To Them The Owl House first episode of Season 3 also a masterpiece, and pretty much like the second part to this episode, that's what it felt like.
for context because i need to talk about TOH to get over my sobbing that it ended:
Hunter is the golen guard, belos, aka the empeors right hand man. The three people in the beginning who wanted to go in belos's mind are Darius (the tall purple one lmao-), Raine (the other one:,) ) and Eberwolf (the tiny one)
they wanted to go into belos's mind because they were looking for information about the day of unity, a day where they basically drain the magic of anyone with a coven sigil. (obviously, he lied about it because no ones gonna want that to happen)
Darius, Raine, and Eberwolf were trying to figure out more about it so that they can help stop it. But as shown, Hunter and Luz got trapped there in his mind.
Hunter saw Belos as family, and he didn't wanna believe he had bad intentions. He also didnt know he was a grimwalker, he always thought he was just a powerless witch.
grimwalkers are basically clone. Belos cloned his brother, Caleb, because i have no idea-
but hes made many clones in the past, which is why theres all of those old golden guard helmets and memories of past golden guards that sound like him.
And if you look in the background of his mind, you can see pictures of Belos and Caleb, but Caleb is crossed out in every photo.
The reason why Belos hates witches so much is because he thought they were evil. He cloned his brother, i believe because Caleb had gotten in a relationship with a witch. he didnt like that and tried to k*ll the witch, but ended up k*lling his brother, with what looks to be no regret
f*cked up, ik-
i apologize if this doesn't make much sense, my brain is rotting atm
edit: also, eda has been punished, but she lost all her powers so theres no point in trying to do anything because she cant even use magic anymore. She was gonna be turned to stone, but was saved and her sister shared her curse with her which got rid of both of their powers
Belos/Phillip & Caleb were raised by a Puritan community, thus explaining why he's a witch hunter
@@brokenconstellation yeah
I’m still disappointed that we never got the full backstory of Philip and Caleb
this show is literally so good, I highly rec it!! And it (sadly) isn't even very long, very binge-able, or easy to make content out of!
I felt bad for Hunter for this episode he's in such denial about what's going on with his uncle that he can't accept.
Belos's ultimate goal involves power, but, moreso glory; he wants to be seen as the hero who exterminated all the witches. All. His goal is literally genocide, then to be held up as the savior by 'normal' humans.
please make a series out of it like with ever after hight
the owl house is amazing and i would love to see you watch it from first to 3rd season the character developments are amazing and the story is so interesting^^
I’m actually so happy someone is watching the owl house episodes with no context. And it’s even better that you’re doing it!!! I’ve always tried to find those kind of videos. Also, there are so many episodes I want to see out of context for the owl house, such as Enchanting Grom Fright
I do actually kind of love the twist on a reaction to shows I love but just the most batshit episodes with no context
I LOVE The Owl House and I love Matthew’s content. Put it together and you have pure happiness.
I'd consider watching the full show even if that's in your own time, it's so good
This was so fun to watch with you having very minimal info known about this show! I was giggling at your theories as you went through the ep. DEFINITELY worth watching through it all. Maybe do another owl house video when you get to the 3-part finale of the show!
I love this episode SO. MUCH. but at the same time it is so sad 😭
so glad you enjoyed, this was one of my favourite episodes and I definitely recommend watching the whole series, it's AMAZING!!
and omg I would literally love it if you reacted to ever after high, its such a good show!! maybe spring unsprung, that was a cool arc!
I would love to see you watch all The Owl House, honestly 👉👈
"tell me why did it feel like a masterpiece?"
Because it's a masterpiece.
