    Good comparison. Focus speed for practical use is tricky to measure. End to end whether in to out or out to in is just part of the measure. Keeper rate is determined by the last little bit of focus time in some cases in which it is close for a moving target but not close enough or quick enough. I have both the Sigma 50 ART and the RF50f1.2

    • @rynfilms

    I have the RF Adapter to EF with the Drop-in-filters and must say it's just not letting me buy any RF lenses as it is so convenient with the Drop-in-filters. I have the polarizing and the ND Filter as well as the clear one and I love it. No extra filters needed for all the Lenses. Yesterday my EF 50mm f1.4 got stuck on Focus. This lead me here and I need to think about the RF 50mm F1.2 or the Sigma 50mm F1.4 Art 🤔. What would you be choosing? Is the RF really worth it to buy new front filters and all or would you stick with the Sigma if you had to choose?

      @rynfilms  3 роки тому

      I've been using the drop-in ND filter recently with no issues. I agree that it makes using filters so much more convenient! Between that and the price difference in those two lenses, I would go with the Sigma without a doubt. 👍

    I’ve owned both EF Canon and Sigma. The real thing here is define “better”. Sharper? Less CA? Of course Sigma wins in these departments, it’s very evident but somehow there’s something magical and hard to explain about the image from the 50 1.2L. I just looks nicer to my eyes. I think it all will come down to your shooting style, preferences in look and determine your image. Me, personally,, after owning both, would pick up the 50 1.2L anytime. Many people are so overobsessed with sharpness and perfect lookind glass that may lose that character that the lens has got to it.

    • @rynfilms
      @rynfilms  4 роки тому

      I completely get that!

      @JF.. 4 роки тому +2

      You both are tripping lol
      Sharper is why lenses are made. Isn’t that the reason people with eye problems wear glasses? And then there is auto focus and etc and the sigma again takes the cake even in this video. Clearly the sigma is way better than the rest of the bunch deal with it boys 🤣😂
      Love your videos brother 👍

    • @giacomom2370
      @giacomom2370 4 роки тому +1

      J F you’re mistaken dude. Character is why lenses are made. Take for example de Canon 35mm f1.4L II which is over corrected, way too sharp that the bokeh isn’t as nice as the V1. If sharpness was everything there wouldn’t exist diffusion filters such as the Schneider Blackmagic or Tiffen Black Pro Mist. There’s a purpose for each lens and situation. It’ll all come down to preference, taste, communication through the image, artistic choice. What you described are prescription glasses for your eyes, these are tools for creating. And just to clarify I still own Sigma Art and Canon L glass and each one of those has a place in the creative and narrative process.

    • @ssmith278
      @ssmith278 4 роки тому

      I agree with J F. Sharpness is best as long as the color is correct and the bokeh is acceptable. If you want a softer image, you can always de-focus the Sigma slightly, use soft filters, or soften it in post processing. Even though I don't own it yet I would go with the Sigma.
      Great video, RYN films.

    Thanks for the awesome review Ryan! Definitely helping me decide to get the Sigma, which is sad cuz the Canon's size is so much more useful. Curious though, (and no shade, cuz you obviously take phenomenal photos!) but were you using autofocus, because if I had taken those L portraits, I would have said I* missed the focus not it* missed the focus. The L portrait of the lady just wasn't lit and posed as well as the other 2, and the portrait of the man looked like it was just focused an inch too far back. Again, love your stuff, and just an honest question.

      @rynfilms  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks! Glad I can help. I was using AF for all these tests. I made sure to focus on the same point with each lens and took multiple photos with each. I guess I meant the lens missed focus because even though I, or the camera, focused on the eye, the focus was shifted back. I suppose if I was manually focusing with a monitor it would have been sharp.

I'm hoping to get out and get some shots in with it today. The wife is due to pop any day now, so we're running out of time for maternity shots. The only lens I have so far, though, is a Canon 24-70 f2.8 II. I'm considering a Sigma 50mm Art and a Canon 70-200mm F2.8II to round out my set (for the time being).

I did get out to take some shots with the R and the wife yesterday, but we went a little too early, and had lots of blown out shots unless I closed down the aperture -- even with ISO 100 and max SS. (I don't have any filters yet...the one I ordered from Amazon came shattered). It was just about the golden hour by the time we left, but my "model" was done by then. :) Hopefully I at least got a couple worth saving or that I can salvage in edit. I still have LOTS to learn, but this R is a big step up from the 6DII, and a HUGE step up from the Rebel2 I got for Black Friday. Just yesterday, at The Photography Show TPS/TVS2019 in the UK, I traded in my Canon EF 35mm f/1.2L USM for the Canon RF 35mm f/1.2L USM.
    All the while I had the EF, aside from the severe CA when used wide open at 1.2, my images were always soft, and sometimes missed focus.
    I hope to have a happier time with the RF.
    I would have loved if you tested at f/1.4 though, to equalise at the Sigma WOA.

    I have a EF 50 1.2L. But its focus it not quite accurate enough when I am using 5D4 with focus point. But if I use Live view mode to focus, it is quite accurate actually. And when the subject in focus, there is not much purple fringes, it becomes a amazing lens. In most case when using DSLR focus, when you think it is in focus, but actually it is not. It may be better when use a mirror less focus mode.
    The benefit of EF 50 1.2 is lighter. RF and Sigma is quiet heavy. And for portrait, I don't need so sharp or many pixels. EF is easy to work with in this case.

    Was planning on selling my Sigma for the RF but I think I’m just gonna keep it. I hated that lens with my DSLR because it was inconsistent but with mirrorless, hopefully it’s better

      It's perfect on mirrorless bodies. Mirrorless cameras are as precise as a DSLR on live view.

    hey man, im trying to increase the production value of my videography work. I'll make the money back in two jobs or in one of my website design. I'll just go with the RF. It's not like you lose your money. They hold their value and sell quickly on ebay. < -- this is my rationalizing the absurd amount of money im about to spend hahaha
