I love how they didn't give Sonya any lines this time around because she's voiced by Rhonda Rousey and they probably couldn't get her again to record something new. Sonya was KO'd for most of the scene, I don't think I even heard a grunt from her.

It is weird, though I personally don't buy sindel really caring about shao kahn. If I recall correctly you can see shao chained up and serving her in sindels ending. Then again I'm not all the way through aftermath and endings aren't normally Canon anyway so maybe I'm wrong.

Hyperion Mute Its the fact that he’s knowledgable about the series lore in game and outside the game. He’s also really skilled to the point where he can pick up combos for new characters almost instantly. His commentary is dope and he’s just a likeable person in general.

Considering Shao is also a schemer, I have several issues with this quote...
NRS kinda forgot the part where Shao overthrew Onaga by scheming. They saw a big dumb jock with a hammer and made his personality exactly that, to where he went James Bond Villain Mode in MK9 and gloated straight to Kitana about all the ways he fucked her life over.
Shoa is kinda the I do it all and Im the best at it. That's why he "is" the strongest in kombat, best at magic, best koncouror and schemer and all that. Which does make him a really cool villian considering alot of people think he is just big buff man.

He was a schemer because he was worthless in battle. He's not admonishing plotting, just Shinnok because his entire plan to take over the realms involved getting Shao Kahn and Raiden out of the picture via Quan-Chi. Meanwhile multi dimensional conqueror Shao Kahn just whups people into servitude
Shinnok schemes because he's a pathetic weakling. Shao Kahn schemes because it amuses him.
...Also, because he occasionally runs into a problem that raw combat prowess can't solve. I mean, there's some things that can't be solved just by punching a dude, even in Outworld.
Sindel's retcon makes even less sense with how she sees Liu Kang. If shes into Shao Kahn because shes attracted to power, then the most dangerous non god in existence should be more than a "peasant". If shes into Shao Kahn because of purely his status, then the fact hes had his ass beat so thoroughly should have her siding up to, and I guess pretending to be nice with, Kitana.
I think she just genuinely likes Shao Kahn though. Birds of a feather and whatnot
Liu Kang is physically and spiritually powerful, but he's a monk. They don't want riches, worship, and all of that other materialistic and superficial stuff that Sindel is into, so in her eyes, he's probably like Jarrod.

Also sindel doesn't just value raw power as strength as she views kitana as being weak for lacking the resolve to kill shao even though she won the fight to her strength is more than just power in the same way that just status isn't enough to be powerful as she hated jerrod for being a weak king dispite his royalty

Actually his green glow only work on God's and elder gods so really it wouldn't do too much to them
Cage ancestor magic only work against natural born God. The magic is basically just a kryptonite to Gods, that all. It won't work on others. Cassie MK11 intro text message confirm this. That why Kronika didn't even fear the Cage family, she was a Titan. She only fear Liu Kang's mortal potential, Raiden who keep interfering with her plan, and Shang Tsung who has knowledge about the crown. Not to mentioned that this stuff is merely just a plot device NRS create so that someone can beat Shinnok in MKX because Liu Kang was revenant during this time. Back in MK4, Liu Kang was the one who beat Shinnok (interestingly in the comic version, Liu Kang actually use his Dragon form to take down Shinnok). And Johnny confirm in MKX it was only a one-time deal. Both Johnny and Cassie has activated once. Although yes the Johnny that fight Shao Kahn in Aftermath is the past version, but still since Shao Kahn is not naturally Gods, yea it still won't work on him.

The simplicity of B movie plot-lines can be entertaining. MK and resident evil are good examples, they are dumb but charming at the same time

There's one word that encapsulates the feel of Sheeva's moveset: _crunchy._ This woman _breaks_ things with every action, a creature of disciplined violence whose every move aims to disable if not kill. The sound design and key poses combine to give a very strong impression. Also in the animation department, the sequence of Sonya's gun-fu is pretty top-notch; Netherrealm's cinematic animation team has gone from strength to strength and it really shows.
That said, a note on MK's storytelling: based on everything we've seen thus far, Sheeva's bout with Sindel should be a climactic betrayal of the Shokan's loyalty. Instead it's the very first thing you do as the player in control of the Sindel chapter, with Sheeva suddenly ready to break the eternal vow she swore to Sindel in order to facilitate the fight. I get what they were going for, in that having your first opponent for this chapter be the protagonist of the last chapter is pretty clean from an outline perspective, but in terms of the characters it leaves a lot of potential by the wayside.

Because NRS new crew has the writing skills and nuance as Neil Cuckman,theres a reason the quality has been going down since Tobias left the company

Remember how Shao Kahn was killed in MK9. Raiden, a god, had to borrow the Elder Gods' power to defeat him. You're basically telling me that Kitana is stronger than Raiden WITH a massive power-up. It doesn't make any sense, it doesn't matter if he's too arrogant, egocentric, overconfident or whatever, it just doesn't make sense.
So they squished Geras' head, he'll obviously regenerate, and then... nothing? He just doesn't appear for the rest of Aftermath.

As much as Sindel's character bugs me, there is still something charming about the strangely wholesome relationship she enjoys with Shao Kahn. They love being evil together. It even goes both ways as the big S is perfectly content with stepping aside to let his wife beat their enemies for him if she desires it. No macho "I have to do this because I'm a big tough guy" bravado. The guy is strangely progressive in some ways...
It's easily one of my favourite parts of aftermath. Just because they're evil doesn't mean they can't have a healthy relationship with common hobbies and goals
If I was asked to describe Shao Kahn, I would describe him as a dude that respects women, would definitely dote on his wife, and could even show love for another being! ...wait hold on... 🤔

Random thought: You know what would be a sick design choice? Making D'vorah not a bug, but an actual big hive for a swarm. Making her bleed not some blueberry smoothie, but actual bugs. If you've ever seen what a hive, an anthill, or pretty much anything consisting of insects looks inside, you know what I'm talking about. It would make her much nastier, but definitely a unique character

Gameplay or story wise? Story wise it's my favorite chapter by far (I main shao Kahn so I'm biased) tho seeing max not know what the character does frustrated me but it was entertaining.

As dumb as that sounds... It pales in comparison to the fact that Sindel heals Shao Kahn AND NO ONE QUESTIONS IT. That plot hole is THE dumbbest shit I've seen on MK11 yet...

Holy shit I just realized the MK: Deception reference in the showdown with Kronika vs. Fujin, Shang Tsung and Raiden. Raiden even gets up near the end to while two wizards blast the fuck out of the main boss with magic. Except Raiden doesn't blow himself and everyone up in the process.

They ruined Sindel completely OG since looked evil but is actually a mother with a soft heart here her design looked awesome and she doesn't look evil anymore yet is actually evil like make up your mind NRS
Shao Khan is just evil Thor. He even has the magic returning hammer, in Evil Green.
It would have been far better if Sindel's body was actually controlled by Tanya's or Nitara's spirit in the soul chamber. They both are massive traitors to their alliances in order to aid evil.
That would have been way cooler and more logical.
Not to mention a whole curve ball for everyone!!

I don't get the hate for Sindel's character change. It's an interesting twist that adds more villains to the story to balance out the growing number of heroes, while also making her more relevant. And saying that "hurr Netherrealm can't write characters or stories" is pure nonsense and an exaggeration for the sake of it.
A diamond with flaws is still a diamond. Have a little more nuance in your perspective, folks.
It's weird how I keep seeing how people saying they ruined her character even tho her story in the original mk wasn't that different and even after the mind control she stayed good she never really added anything to the story afterwards
I recommend watching The4thSnake's videos on him critiquing Sindel's absurd retcon.
It's an unjustified retcon that completely overwrites her character from the old timeline and even the new timeline, as her MK9 even shows her being a model of virtue uniting all of Outworld's races and Edenia in spirit after she broke her mindwashing spell put onto her by Quan Chi.
It would be interesting if it wasn't so generic and completely spat in the history of her character arc, as her retcon basically made her another evil egomaniacal madwoman, and it's not just the character. It creates unnecessary character retcons and rewrites for other characters and events within the same timeline, overwriting events just two games prior.
Netherrealm legitimately can't write consistent story and characters arcs, it's not nonsense or exaggeration.
I can see how it doesn't make sense, but I also see it as a lot more interesting than good Sindel. It's an absurd faux-face turn, where you realize Revenant Sindel was probably LESS EVIL than normal Sindel! At least she got along with her kid as a Revenant. Is discarding some canon worth the Shao Kahn saying "Wife!"?

The reason her revenant self got along with revenant Kitana is because she hadn't been written to see her own daughter in disgust because her character did not have this stupid retcon until MK11.
And no, discarding canon for one line is not worth it.
@@ronaldfernandez1180 Good Sindel is an idea that only works as an idea, it doesn't actually lead to anything interesting. People tend to think 'canon' is god, but it's not. It can always be uprooted if doing so makes for a more interesting story.

You know if the reason that Sindel has been retconned into this stupid abomination really is “because she looks evil” why not just make one of her costumes a more good person Regal outfit, like how Ivy in soul caliber often gets a second costume that better matches her regal back story.

@@djpegao sindel being evil by default is a retcon. Let's say Raiden altering time is the reason. Shao in the story is from BEFORE Quan Chi suggested her resurrection, he can't of known otherwise he'd be dead before mk9 began.

Why does Ed Boon hate Kitana so much? It feels as if the only reason she was created, was for Liu Kang to have a love interest. But except for that, her entire life has been shit! She lost her mother, she lost her father, she lost her home, then she was forced to follow Shao Kahn and Shang Tsung‘s orders, then Mileena was created, then she gets killed by her resurrected mother, then turned revenant, then she finally defeats Shao Kahn and becomes Kahn herself, only to die again by the hands of her now retconned evil mother and Shao Kahn. And in that entire life i mentioned, she lost almost every battle she was in. I feel as if Ed Boon only cares for 4 characters now...
You can say the same about Subzero. He also lost his brother , his loyal friend Smoke , Scorpion and now his entire clan have been murdered and turned into a cyber
How is it that people consider this a good story mode? yes, it has good production value and length, but the most important part of a story: the writing, is some of the worst I've witnessed in a commercial product. the dialogue is garbage, the characters have no personality beyond their roles (with some exceptions) -though that's basically mk in a nutshell-, and the logic behind who beats who is non-existent. honestly none of the mk story modes have had anything of worth to offer aside from length and presentation; the best of the nrs story modes is by far injustice 2, and that's probably because there were comic book writters involved. People in the comments keep talking about "Johnny's speech." what speech? the one and half sentences followed by "let me spell my motivations out"? which then gets completely undermined by him losing miserably?
This is just so dull and boring, max is the only element with substance to the point that I've push through this borefest only cuz of him

Well, to be honest, I wasn't expecting much of a story from a fighting game, and I not too much of a fan of the chapters structure in NRS games. In my opinion, it's at least better than the SC5/DOA5 story modes. But MK9 and MKX were a lot better in terms of story. They had a better structure, and things made more sense. And (in my opinion), 9 and X were better than Deception, Armageddon, and (of course) MKvsDC in terms of story and gameplay, albeit with less of an interesting mythos. But at the very least, Aftermath did have good action, character interactions, (very slightly) better consistency with power balance, and probably the best Shang Tsung in any of the games. Plus, I'd say the stakes are higher, too. Instead of Kronika simply rebooting the timeline yet again, Shang Tsung will actually take control of everything. Honestly, I hope Liu Lang's ending becomes canon, so they can just start over fresh.

@Daniel Vega But what is fun about being bombarded with exposition and planning by characters void of personality? what does this offer that other story modes don't? is it the writing? because I can say that at least other fighting games show off their characters' personalities and charm; something the MK cast has always lacked. Is it the length? because longer=/=better, specially when everything is so dull, that actually makes it worse. is it the production value? well, you're just polishing a turd a that point.
So tell me: where's the fun? why would it be more fun to listen to dull "characters" that are just a walking set of powers with "good" or "bad" signs plastered on their foreheads, than it'd be to just go at it for few rounds online? that way you at least get the small specs of personality that the characters have during their intro dialogue
