Shang Tsung's new VA just sounds like he's having a lot of fun being a smug bastard and there is so much charm to it regardless of liking or hating it.
I feel like he actually did a solid job following up Cary-Hiroyuki Tagewa’s Performance In The Last Game. And gotta say, those were pretty big shoes to fill, but I feel like Shang’s New V/A Actually Did Really Good, Fuffilling That Same Energy and Vibe
He did a great job. He honestly just sounds and looks like a younger version of Cary-Hiroyuki Tagewa. And I love it.
I love Shang Tsung. I mean gameplay wise I despise him but as a character he is awesome. His mannersism, his smugness and the VA to bring it all together is just phenomenal bad guy stuff. He knows he is an evil tyrant and he revels in it
Listen to the way he says "souls" near the beginning. I laughed out loud at that read of it. it's almost "shoulsh" as said by Sean Connery, like it's THAT cheesy (in the BEST way) lol

I love that Geras storing the time keeper power in the jade jaguar was foreshadowed in the first cutscene he appeared in, where he picked it up when talking to Liu Kang
The twist of the real identity of "Kronika" is easily one of the best moments in all of NRS MK story modes, and the reference to Deception was a nice touch.
And then the game almost gave me a heart attack when Dark Sindel started fighting with everyone. Thankfully it didn't end up the same way as in MK9, but I was almost ready to shed all my positive feelings for this story mode if it actually did.
This isn't a flawless story mode, but hot damn NRS REALLY knew how to mess with the audiences this time around.
We thought it was a MK1 reboot, then we thought it was a deadly alliance reboot, turns out it was just an Armageddon reboot lol

Even without his critical part in the story, I like him so much more as a good guy.
Loved the foreshadowing of the ‘Time Keeper in Jade Jaguar’ twist when Geras first appeared when he held the statue in question.
When he held the Jaguar in the cutscene I was like “why tf is he so interested in this random statue” but it makes sense now

I was half-expecting the twist to be that Kronika was never actually a Titan, but that just made this twist all the better.

I really like Geras in this because it shows how he really is just a reflection of his master's will. He was a ruthlessly persistent and reckless brute under Kronika, but with Liu Kang he is wise and considerate

That's the most creative thing NSR have ever done with this franchise honestly
You know, they said that MK11's ending doesn't follow with MK1. But what they really meant is that small interaction between Liu Kang and the Great Kung Lao lmao. Ngl I kinda wish that Kung Lao had a little bit more importance in the story but I respect the fact that he stood up to his bro (Raiden) multiple times.

The moment I heard Damashi I screamed "Oh shit it's Onaga". But Shang Sung being Damashi still tripped me up, didn't expect that. Then they mentioned the Nexus. So now I'm wondering if the Kamidogu will come in somehow.

Probably not as many. Seems Outworld and Edenia are one and the same now, and from character intros, there’s no Chaosrealm, either, since Havik suggested rechristening Seido into Chaosrealm.
I gotta admit I can’t hate this twist. It’s just so over the top and utterly bonkers that I can’t help but begrudgingly respect the writers for their moxie.
For those that didn't play or don't remember Deception, Damashi was the alias Onaga was using, when he tricked Shujinko into doing all that dumb stuff. Also, yes, I think it is dumb we didn't hear this name until 2 seconds before the reveal.
What would mentioning it earlier do except get people hyped about Onaga and disappointed it's not Onaga?

I love that they pulled a MK Deception with Dimashi, only instead of being Onaga it was Shang Tsung lol. This game is seriously a love letter to the 3D era of MK.

I've never been attracted to Mileena but I find her really appealing in this storyline. Mostly because they literally humanized her without taking away her rebellious spirit. So she wants to shack up with an umgadi? No one can tell her no, not even Kitana.
Kitana even supports it, told her she just gotta be patient and she can change the laws however she wants

This is the all time best version of Mileena! Not only in terms of gameplay but character. She is more than just a rabid animal, she is a leader you could follow into battle
Agreed. I never really cared about Mileena before this game, but she had a very impressive upgrade. Same with Reptile and Baraka for that matter.
The change to Tarkatans has really improved Mileena and Baraka's characters. They're not just "rawr monster". hell, you can have a character like that, but Mileena and Baraka were like that for most games. Nice to see something new!
@@FeenieVonKarma the change is kinda funny to think about when you consider that Liu Kang shaped everything. Like: "The species of Tarkatans doesnt exist anymore, being a Tarkatan is now a disease". My man literally erased a species and degraded them to a sickness lmao.

Liu Kang can control, how these people turn out to be, but he can't control, whether these people are supposed to exist at all or not. So he makes the Tarkatans from an un-redeemable race of monsters into sympathetic victims of a disease.
I don't think he made the disease. I think it naturally came about, based on what we've seen. It could also be some more of shang tsungs meddling
I kinda love this twist, because it's just so hilarious that even Shang Tsung himself falls for his own trickery. Not a huge fan of where the story goes from here, but that part is pretty amazing.

The Doods sometimes confuse themselves... They got caught up in whether this is "MK11 Sindel" or "MK11 Raiden"... it's none of that. Titan Shang Tsung created all of them from scratch for his timeline; he may have based some of it on previous characters, but they can be whatever the heck he wanted.

The fact fake Kronika used the named Damashi, the same name used by Onaga when he deceived Shujinko, i love that attention to detail.
I like that they made sure to give Titan Shang Tsung the same mannerisms as MK11 Shang Tsung. How he moves, his facial expressions, his tone. It really sells that it's the same character, and separates him from MK1 Shang Tsung.
Jerrod reunion with Liu Kang remind me of their arcade endings in Deception. It's quite heartwarming
I paused when original Shang Tsung appeared. I don’t know where the story is going, but restarting the story while having cues from MK Deadly Alliance and Deception, using both endings of Mk11 and using parallel times where new and old exists was a genius move in my opinion.

Geras is just an absolute G and bro in this game, goddamn. I just LOVE what they did with his character so much more. He really was just Kronika's lackey in MK11 which always kinda upset me because he looked like a neat and interesting character that just got bodied over and over again in the story. HERE is him actually getting used extremely well and I loved it
in a way, titan liu kang and titan shang tsung weren't just titans of time. liu kang also became the titan of good and shang tsung titan of evil. not only do they have the power over time, they also both became the aspects of morality itself

The new voice actor for “old” Raiden is Travis Willingham, who’s voiced dozens of characters you probably know, both from games and anime/cartoons.

For being big MK fans, Steve and Kenny seem to misremember a lot of the lore. Shang and Quan Chi teaming up to resurrect the dragon army is from Deadly Alliance, not Deception.
And then they don't recognize the name Damashi, which is the actual plot taken from Deception. Although in the original is was Onaga using the Damashi disguise to deceive Shujinko instead of Shang using it to deceive his timeline counterpart in this game.
Titan Shang Tsung in his timeline is literally God. Of course he would and could bring back MK9 Sindel; the most powerful Sindel there was, to help him.

They really like sending just one or two people at a time towards Sindel to beat up lol. You'd figure all them would've been able to beat her, since Mileena solod.
Shang Tsung thought he had them all in the palm of his hand, but when Shang Tsung showed up, Shang Tsung realized that Shang Tsung was the real deal
This evil version of Sindel is 100% MK9's version. The white eyes, the reference to her fight scene in MK9. It wouldn't make sense for Shang to bring back MK11 Sindel, since he betrayed her by the end of Aftermath and killed both her and Shao

Kind of a nitpick, but I think I can explain why the doods were confused by evil Sindel's change in outfit. They were expecting her normal MK11 outfit instead of the one she wears in the MK1 story, but with the exception of Raiden (who already had an "evil" outfit in his Dark Raiden outfit), in MK11 we see every other character who shows up after Shang Tsung becomes Keeper of Time wearing updated costumes, indicating how they've all been corrupted into evil versions of themselves. Even characters who were already evil have new costumes to reflect the fact that Shang Tsung's new world order is based on taking what he wants no matter what means are necessary.
Max you should do a history on voice actors for characters such as scorpion or other iconic characters
I like the fact that BOTH endings from MK 11 are canon.
i think the reason raiden looks the same while sindel and everyone else looks different is raiden is replaced by a completely different version, one being a farmer from fenjian, theyre technically 2 complete different people, with the title of Raiden. I think.
The game is in acts. Thats why Kung Lao, Raiden, Johnny, and Kenshi are only in the first 2 acts. The other half is about Outworld.

That setup of finding allies from other universes would’ve been a perfect in to bring a bunch of guest characters from other fighting game franchises like Street Fighter, Fatal Fury/King of Fighters, Tekken, Virtua Fighter, Dead or Alive, and Killer Instinct in. It’s not what they do, but I wonder if that was the original idea behind it, because “we need to get a bunch of allies from other universes” seems like a setup for guest characters to show up in the final part of the game.
I just envisioned Elder God Rugal....

@@JohnGraves1985 You mean to tell me the thing that didn’t happen wouldn’t happen? Although if the Mortal Kombat team really wanted, I’m sure Warner Bros. could work something out. It wasn’t too long ago the same studio put out that Ready Player One movie. It doesn’t go there, but the setup of pulling from different realities feels like it was originally meant to be a big surprise moment where a bunch of fighting game characters from other series show up, and then they’d all get into a big Ready Play One/Imaginationland style brawl on the Armageddon temple.

Why would this MK reboot suddenly imply that it shares some sort of cannon with other fighting games that they've never crossed over with? I like guest characters as much as the next guy, but I think injecting them into the story would just make it bloated.
@@RetroIsaac Because it’s fun. And because guest characters have come to be a staple of their fighting games since Mortal Kombat 2011. I’m also not sure what your point is. I’m talking about a story beat the game already has. There’s already a point in the story mode where they pull in characters from other universes. Now what the game does is these are all just other Mortal Kombat universes, and the villain gets a bunch of weird combo versions of characters. But, the “we need help from other universes” bit sounds like the original idea was to do something with guest characters there. Having those characters from other universes show up and be heroes and villains from other fighting games would’ve been a cooler reveal than having them be Raiden and then some dumb thing like Stung Lao. Having evil god Shang Tsung open a portal on the Mortal Kombat Annihilation temple and M. Bison comes out and ends up being someone you have to fight is cooler than Ninja Mime, Fire Cage, Scorp Lao, and Shock Priestess. Being a better version of what the game already does wouldn’t make it bloated.
I straight up almost skipped this game because of the previews with Kronika in the intro scene... then someone told me to just ignore it, and I'm quite happy I did.

Wow. Can't believe I called it right (back in Max's reaction to the Launch trailer video). As a Shang Tsung main it was just a wish, but thank you creators for making it happen!! It is awsome and REALLY open ended.
I could've done with just a Max playthrough of the story without the random banter, but glad it's here nonetheless

This version of old Raiden is voiced by Travis Willingham, instead of Richard Epcar.
I think the reason why Evil Sindel looks like the new one is for the sake of it being the same character. They're both the same, just one is evil and one is not. Raiden is different because in Shang Tsung's timeline, he's still the demigod from MK9-11. While Raiden is Liu Kang's timeline is just human.
That's not MK11 Sindel. Both Liu Kang and Shang Tsung started their timelines form the beginning so everyone in both is a new version.
