The Respiratory System

- Paul Andersen starts this video with a description of the respiratory surface. He explains how worms, insects, fish and mammals take in oxygen and release carbon dioxide. He then tours the major organs of the respiratory system; from the pharynx to the trachea, bronchus, bronchiole and alveoli. He also explains how oxygen is carried on the hemoglobin and how carbon dioxide is carried as bicarbonate.

Mr. Andersen!!! You are by far my favorite online tutor! You lay material out in a very clear way. Thank you so much!
Mr. Anderson, you are by far my favorite on-line go to tutor. You are able to get the information of each system out in a way that is easy to follow and learn. Thank you so much!
Where was the Interned when I was having study material like this. TY for posting such valuable information.
3 years after my undergrad and now in PT school and I’m still watching your videos! Haha

You rock. I can only fully understand when YOU explains things!!
hehehe! I`m in middle school and my science teacher started with this... and now I`m studying with it for a big science exam tommorow, my teacher said to listen to the systems on Bozenbiology to study, so yeah, this is how I`m studying! And I like it! I enjoy it! So your not the only nerd. ;)
Omg he put up subtitle options in many different languages?!!! What an amazing resource and to view it for free!! Omg
The hemoglobin and plasma of the blood information helped alot with understanding how gas exchange works within the capillaries of the alveoli. Great video bud! keep it up
Straight up i'm actually learning this, my teachers a nutwad
My teacher's idea of teaching is reading off a powerpoint. You are amazing, thanks so much :)
Arabic subtitle! Oh god, I don’t have to worry about translating. You made my life 10 times easier. Thank u
And so begins my "studying" for my Anatomy exam tomorrow. Oh the joys of procrastinating.

Hello mr Andersen! Just wanted to say that your videos are very helpful! We are often told to watch one of your videos (related to the topic we are going through) as homework :) I am in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. I don't know if you have heard of it (?) :P

Could you please make a video about nephron in kidney?
this was extremely helpful! thank you so much!
I'm confused as to why we can't breath out soot and other things like that if we can breath out carbon dioxide. Is it because they are solid residue?
that helped me alot.. but cant u add histology of the organ too in your videos for better details. i need them every time
Why can't I find information on what happens with the 70% + nitrogen we inhale? Is someone afraid to tell us we might be a plant?
You asked the same question in Crash course!!
Still waiting for an answer.
From my opinion, we don't have any use of nitrogen in our body. So, when we inhale air, its only the oxygen that is absorbed and used by the body. The nitrogen is simply exhaled with the carbon dioxide.
How is it separated?
Different gases have different solubilities. So, maybe the oxygen is more soluble and readily accepted by Red Blood Cells whereas the Nitrogen is not soluble at all in blood. So, they stay in the alveolus itself.
Thank you!
wait so i'm confused....some people say the diaphragm moves up when contracting and some say it moves down...which one is it? o_O
