  • Ikea is hiring workers for its online Roblox store for £13.15 per hour, and you can even serve virtual meatballs
There's a new opportunity for Roblox players in the UK and Ireland. Ikea announced that it would hire 10 people to run its virtual Roblox store as part of an initiative to showcase potential career opportunities to young people, but this time, kids won't be allowed to participate, as you'll have to be over 18 years old to qualify via BloxzMedia.
"With us, you have the opportunity to move departments, flex your skills, and get promoted," the advertisement for the job application reads. It also describes how employees can access a "unique" job progression and that jobs range from helping out in the showroom with customers who are choosing their furniture that they can purchase online to even surviving virtual meatballs in the bistro.
Although applying for the job isn't exactly straightforward, before you log your usual details, you must first fill out a form and answer questions like "What would you do if we ran out of pixelated hot dogs in our bistro?" and "If you were a pixelated Ikea furniture, which one would you be and why?" It's all a bit strange, with a touch of trying too hard to be down with the kids, but what else would you expect from a corporate advertisement?

Roblox and Walmart are now selling real-world items in-game to anyone over the age of 13: 'It's very safe'
Walmart and Roblox have teamed up to provide a service I didn't know anyone needed: letting anyone over the age of 13 browse and buy goods from Walmart via Roblox, which amounts to an Inception-style headache.
There was already a way to walk through a virtual retail shop via Roblox's Walmart Discovered: a game that lets players discover new Roblox games, buy emotes, customize their very own Walmart cart, and show off their favourite items. It was made by Walmart in a crossover event with Roblox. But now it's not just limited to immaterial purchases, as players located in the US who are 13 years and older can now actually order real-world items to their door (via Digiday).
“There is a traditional sort of checkout flow where you put your name, your address, and your credit card information, and that’s all powered by a Walmart API that handles all of the information super securely-it’s very safe,” the director of brand experiences and strategic partnerships Justin Breton says in a press release. “And once you hit checkout, you’ll get your confirmation email from Walmart. All of that is handled by us on the backend, the user will then get their item in the mail, but the virtual twin is granted immediately back on Roblox."

Walmart and Roblox are teaming up to make virtual e-commerce a reality
As of today, Walmart is able to sell physical goods directly to users inside Roblox.
The introduction of real-life e-commerce could be a watershed moment for the company’s ambitions to become an all-encompassing destination for virtual life.
Walmart’s Roblox e-commerce experience launches later today, with users inside the pre-existing Walmart Discovered able to have real-life items shipped directly to their doorsteps. Users entering the experience will be greeted with a new storefront showcasing virtual twins of select physical items sold at real-life Walmart stores.
After trying out the virtual items on their avatars, players will be able to load an e-commerce experience that takes the form of a browser window inside Roblox imitating the experience of shopping on Walmart’s website - essentially a virtual laptop set up inside Roblox to access Walmart.com. The commerce feature within Walmart Discovered will be gated specifically to users aged 13 or older in the United States only.
