  • On February 6, EHang announced that the EHANG Autonomous Aerial Vehicle has achieved a series of manned flight tests carrying one and two passengers, including EHang CEO and all executives, as well as many Guangzhou government officials.
    At CES 2016, EHang officially launched the world’s very first electric AAV (Autonomous Aerial Vehicle) for low-airspace short-distance air transportation. EHang AAV has 2 seats, 8 arms and 16 propeller.
    With the core concepts of autopilot, full redundancy safety design and cluster management by intelligent command and control center, pilots are no longer necessary for a flight, while passengers only need to click the “take-off” button to fly to the selected destination.
    EHang AAV (Autonomous Aerial Vehicle) made a big step for the whole Urban Air Mobility industry by carrying up to 17 people in Vienna, April 4th, 2019.
    As crowds are pouring into the city, life speeds up, traffic gets denser, and urbanization is close to collapse. We can see more and more roads, tunnels, bridges, still don't solve the problem.
    The electrical, vertical takeoff and landing (eVTL), autopilot air taxi could be the best solution.
    EHang is a world's leading autonomous aerial vehicle (AAV) technology platform company based in Guangzhou, China.

      Dennis Stockhall I know this post is 2 years old but today i read in the newspaper here in Norway that Ehang has been authorized to fly in the Norwegian airspace. It’s in a test fase. There is an investor here in Norway who is gonna start a transport company, probably a taxi drone company. Same in Germany

    Sir, much respect to respect to you for your hard work and creativity in bringing this wonderful invention of yours into reality. I always wanted to learn how to become pilot but I never could afford the flying lessons. You've literally invented a kind of one passenger flying car for the general public to use once you can get approval for production. Thank you, and thank you for putting constant effort into design and material to make your vehicle as safe as possible for the pilot.

    Great work and congratulations! But how about the maximum flight distance of the 2-passenger version? It shows 8.8km in the video and about 25km(single-passenger version) at your official webside. But I wonder 8.8km will not satisfy people's expectations, especially considering of you need to keep at least 10% of remaining power for redundancy. But finally, I feel very proud of you!Greetings from Guangzhou, China.

    • @jetplaneflyer
      @jetplaneflyer 6 років тому

      Good point. If you believe the range is 8.8Km then in practice to keep some range in reserve for 'go-arounds' or diversion then the practical range would be maybe half of that. Then when you land it takes an hour or more to re-charge it's batteries!

    Way to go guys at EHANG! I have been watching your creation from the beginning with anticipation of a manned flight for a year now, and you delivered! In this video, I can see the confidence in the company all the way through. don't get me wrong I love your competitor's craft too but for the most part, they were rushing it to the market just to get a jump on profit. and when they did get there's up in the air.....i did not see the confidence in there videos like yours, that shows me that safety, dependability, and performance was the focus in the product.

      A helicopter is a completely different mission profile. This thing is autonomous, meaning it doesn't need a pilot, just a flight plan. Secondly, it's electric and rechargeable (batteries are heavy), so the flights are quite short.

      @landlockedviking 6 років тому +5

      Luiz Fernando have you ever been in a mosquito? No thanks. Your control in an auto rotation event has to be perfect. Their blades don't have near enough weight/ momentum to keep a wide control window. In controlled scenarios they can be ok, but in real world they become sketchy. The redundancy of this craft makes the mosquito look like a suicide wish.

    EHANG: looks great, you have convinced me! Especially the flight stability looks superb. For safety I would suggest to develop a robotic arm which can capture the drone in mid-arm. I would suggest to use an electro magnet for the capture. The safety protocol would only allow the drone to be lowered to the ground when the rotors have stopped. I would also provide a mechanism to charge the drone when captured or swap the battery. Thereby it is also guaranteed nobody can mess with the craft when idle. Hmm... and when you have that thing captured in air on an arm you could also use the rotors to charge the batteries on a windy day...

      Yes, that would indeed be a good idea!
      Even for the very very rare event something might break or fail, which is not thought of before it does fail, it would be very nice to have a ballistic parachute - but it would have to be connected to the flight controller/battery power via a switch, which would stall all motors immideately once the chute has been fired!

      Not to burst anyone’s bubble here but, just imagine these things in the wrong hands. Let’s say a drunk teenager who can’t even park a FRIGGEN car!!!! Until we adapt our lives to a society that ACTUALLY uses technology like this, people will only die cause they all think “Its soooooo cool!!” Lol. Personal aircraft have been around for years, there’s a reason why it’s not mainstream. Yeah, it’s cool. But it also scares the living shit out of people. Including me.

    • @syncmaster915n

      carpetmogul007 these things won't fall into the wrong hands! A simple facial recognition will easily solve the problem. 10 years from now, or even 5, all new cars on the road will use facial (or voice for that matters) recognition to start the engine. Stop living in the 80s.

    Great work EHANG team! Congraulation!! But you need to consider putting Propeller Guards on all Propellers as to prevent them from cutting the arms and legs or anything that is close proximity to the Propellers as the EHANG vehicle start its engine for Vertical Take-off and Land. You never know when an accident can happen in the hands of ordinary user.

    I have some ideas to improve drones safety and performance:
    1) Autopilot shoud have ECO PLANER mode. For example to fly over calm sea at very low altitude (0,5 m or so) useing ''ground effect''. In that mode You can fly almost twice more!
    2) Ultralight planes have a security parashute. So if something gone wrong, You can expand a security parashute over 100 m, or over 40 m if You are moveing in a fast speed.
    3) If You want to fly far away economically, the drone should have a fixed extanding wing, like a plane has.
    4) In case of low altidude failure, drone shoud have a big security bag (like in cars) in the bottom.
    5) A wind share protection/warning due to meteo reports and weather radar.
    6) in case of pitot tube failure (if it has), drone shoud determine airspeed due to GPS and weather forecast speed.

    At first, I looked at it with great excitement and admiration. Very advanced technology and knowledge are used. I appreciate and congratulate all workers. But Later, when I saw that only the front facade of the administrative building was painted and the other facades were in bad condition, I thought that the visible parts of your products would be beautiful, but the invisible parts would be bad. ( You can see 4:50 ) After these feelings, I started to examine the video carefully and saw that I was right. Because at the beginning of the video, when the right door of the pilot is closed, there is not even a door seal on the left door ( you can see on the left side according to the pilot between 1:15 - 1:19 and the lower right corner of the screen between 1:21 - 1:54 ) , and when you look carefully, it is seen that the workmanship of the black glass pillar on the glass side of the right door is very bad ( you can see on the right side according to the pilot 1:17 ). It is a very sad situation. I think that all the people working there spend a lot of time as well as a lot of effort and do their best. I think the investor might be afraid to spend money. Thanks.

    When you figure the energy density of the batteries, its probably has an endurance measured in minutes rather than hours.

    • @PiDsPagePrototypes
      @PiDsPagePrototypes 6 років тому +2

      Read the subtitles - 8.8km range test at 130kph.
      That's a pretty decent starting point, only to get better as battery tech improves, or with a micro turbine as power generator.

    • @Waltham1892
      @Waltham1892 6 років тому +1

      So, what you are saying is this thing has an endurance of just over 14 minutes at 130 Kph.
      My car (a hybrid) has an endurance of 6.5 HOURS at 105 Kph.
      Is it a starting point, yes it is. Is it, given the current level of maturity in battery and electric motor technology a promising start? No, its not.
      You'd be better off from an efficiency standpoint using a turbine. At that point, you've got a standard helicopter.

    • @PiDsPagePrototypes
      @PiDsPagePrototypes 6 років тому +1

      Micro Turbine as a gas generator, driving Alternators to charge the system - yup, stated that in other comments already.
      But I still think this is a pretty good starting point - it's the equivalent of where EV's were in the 80's, not where Tesla is now.

    • @Waltham1892
      @Waltham1892 6 років тому +1

      This is where the engineering breaks down.
      If you have to carry fuel and a turbine to charge the batteries, then you add weight and complexity (meaning even more weight) to the entire system.
      You also start racking up inefficiencies because now you have to convert chemical energy (fuel) into mechanical energy (the turbine) into electrical energy (the generator) back into chemical energy (the batteries) and finally, back into mechanical energy (the motors).
      At each stage you are going to encounter loss, so in the end you are pissing away more power than you are storing.
      You've also now made your cute little drone into a gas turbine helicopter, which is a technology we already have, sans the heavy batteries.

    • @Waltham1892
      @Waltham1892 6 років тому

      And maybe we can build one what goes the speed of light for one hundred million miles.
      Its a idea that, while it words, isn't commercially viable.
