Thankyou for posting this.I realise I miss subtle signals. 95% of the time my horse's attention is on me, but I get caught out when she throws a wobbler, (and they're big!).
You mention that Corbin may have this behaviour through his life.
I must admit, as an older rider, I want to stamp out the behaviour, as it is dangerous and limits me to just riding in my field
Thank you!! You clearly explained ears on the rider!!
Great education ,so much knowledge you give to us all, thanks so much for sharing love it. I watch your video's anytime day or night and learning all the time❤
Same! Tim has forgotten more than I have ever learned in my lifetime.
You have so much wisdom.
Have you ever trained a horse that didn’t end up learning this “lesson of the ears?”
If they can’t learn this lesson of paying attention to you, then I would speculate that they’re never going to be safe to ride, at least not for an amateur.
My off the track thoroughbred totally blew me off when I first started using him as a riding horse, not out of ill will, but because he had never been trained to do anything else.
I ended up teaching him to pay attention to me on the ground, using natural horsemanship techniques. In his case, luckily, that lesson transferred to when he was being ridden.
It turned out that he was a very people centric course, though, so I may have gotten off easy.
Never had one mot learn to pay attention.
Would you consider using ground poles to add interest?
Arabs always have those up and forward. How do I not nag my horse all the time to get an ear on me.
We weave down the trail by putting a leg on him to go left or right and do lots of circles.
Gets tiresome after a long ride. If that’s what it takes I need to keep doing it.
People who ride me with get tired of it I’m sure.
I've ridden many arabs and they will turn their ear on you the same way. I'd say you need to work on it just you and your horse without other horses around.
