He shouldered into you without regard for you. He wouldn’t have gotten away with doing that to a horse that was higher in pecking order and I’m glad to see you correct him immediately. You’re more knowledgeable about horse body language than anyone I’ve ever seen. I learn something from you each time I watch you. Thank You Sir

Kudos to the owners for sending that horse to you. There’s a lot of work going on and it takes your experience and training to suss out all his evasions and many “ don’t want to’s” before he makes a turn around to mentally being willing to be helpful instead of a lazy fractious punk that could end up at the slaughter pipeline. I’ve spent three months working with a completely spoiled stallion who was MADE that way by people. He went home with a much better awareness and attitude. Hopefully his new owners will keep him disciplined and working well. His old owners sure didn’t.

Tim, your ability to read a horse’s emotional temperature is astounding. It’s your superpower.
This horse reminds me of a kid that has been bullied at school and hates going there. He’s learned to shut down and put up with almost everything, but there’s an volcano simmering far underneath. If you push and push at some point, the façade breaks and an eruption occurs. Only then, can you really deal with the emotional issue that’s causing the behavior.
Kudos to you. This horse really needed you today.

I meant to add that a horse that is as uncooperative as this horse is no fun at all to ride. I’m very happy that his owners sent him to you. He could be well on his way to finding himself selling at auction to a meat buyer if he doesn’t start getting at least semi-cooperative.

Like the way you handled that spook at the board incident. Makes me feel better about what I’ve had to do with my pushy Velcro gelding.

The stubborn in strong in that one, but you have the long-game in mind. He will learn from your firm leadership in time. I'm glad you are firm with issues of safety. You are doing defensive driving with an equine instead of a car, always planning for the worst and knowing how you'll handle it. It's a smart approach.

I agree... one of my absolutes is that my horses have to be able to step on their ropes without loosing it. If you had a kid leading that horse and they dropped the lead rope by accident and the horse flipped instead of just stopping ... people can get really hurt. It's just a safety thing that should not be overlooked! Thanks!

At least he learned quickly, I had one who just wouldn't learn so I got rid of him, too dangerous, I made him stay 10 feet back but just did not quit trying
