You won't go broke using what you have. Keep up the great work

You're totally right - if what you have works, no shame in using it. It definitely sounds like you made a great Craigslist purchase that has paid off easily!

Good for you, if it works for you that's all that matters.

Heating with wood is a lifestyle lol. Anyone who doesn't heat with wood has no clue its more the enjoyment and happiness found in heating with wood, finding the wood, getting outdoors, playing with the fire lol and so on then the cost savings, at least here in the mid-west. I split by hand for 10 years before we got our 1k Troy bilt splitter that we have used for 15 years now.

You are 100% correct that heating with wood is a lifestyle. And it is a lifestyle that I was raised in. We always heated with wood growing up and I spent many of evenings and weekends cutting and splitting wood with my dad and brother. Looking back, those are some fond memories. As teens, we were my father's log splitter and the only cost was the food to keep us satisfied. Thanks for watching!

Even reading through there are still comments about the speed, the height and size. For some it is all about the bigger, the faster, the most impressive. For years all I could afford was a small electric splitter. I was limited on diameter. The big stuff I put aside till winter and used a maul to break it down when it was frozen. It worked for me for years.
There are advantages of having a lower splitter, The girls can reach it with little problems ;)
I posted before you started splitting, yeah, the splitter may be a little slow, but there is a serious advantage to that, which would be safety. Some of the bigger rams move so fast that things can be pinched and you may not have time to get out of the way.
You could look into seeing if there was a bigger affordable pump, maybe something off of an old tractor.

Right now, I'm content and don't need anything faster. Maybe some day. Thanks for watching!

Can always noodle the big rounds in half to make them easier to handle. Your back will appreciate it. The full-cycle time of your splitter is a bit slow for my tastes. The farm store splitter I bought this past spring is too slow, and is a lot faster than this one. But even seasoned firewood professionals will agree that make do with what you can afford until it dies or have the money to waste/spend on a better splitter when making firewood to sell. Chris at In The Woodyard literally wore out two farm store splitters before he bought his Ultra. Now he can make 3x the amount of split firewood per hour. Big difference in splitter needs between someone producing firewood to sell and someone splitting for personal use. Even the slowest log splitter will do more in a day than the average person can split with an axe or maul.

I do that in some of my older videos like this one: ua-cam.com/video/4afVlJ5O-tg/v-deo.html but I only noodle the ones I can't lift. Check it out. And all those logs were split on this splitter. Yes, it's slow and weak, but it is steady and still going. Works for me. Thanks for watching!

Your back in 20 years would appreciate a splitter that could tilt up though so you don't have to pick up those 150 pound logs. The less you pick those up the longer you'll be able to play with the grandkids longer on down the road when your children become parents :).

Maybe I'll look into that in 20 years. But for now, I'm good. Stretching and regular exercise keeps your body in good shape. Improper lifting, no stretching, and irregular activity is how people get injured. I've been there in my younger years and I've learned how to stay healthy as I've gotten older.

Working with what you have.. I think that part is getting lost in the way Society works today.. In my case I am needed something faster for production. I still enjoy spitting wood..
Ram Log Splitters is still around they probably have all the information you nees on hand if you ever needed it..

I can understand the need if you are taking orders and selling firewood. But for my small use, using what I have works just fine. I've looked for information and haven't found any about the splitter. But like I mentioned, splitters are so simple, there really isn't anything I need to know. Thanks for watching!
