I think they also called him Willie Carson named after a great English rider. He can gives you a peach of a ride on his mounts that has u talking about it for years. I used to bet on him, he rides with big weights at times for real 133lbs n still won. Great man without a doubt
As a child my late dad used to take me to watch the horses exercise early in the morning and also on a raceday. He also introduced me to three of his favorite Jockeys who were Arthur Jones, Cleveland Sukie and C Morris aka (Skippie).
The most powerful hands of race riding out of Jamaica..the legendary Bimbo Rodriquez..won more exciting blanket finishes..not only in Jamaica but in the USA too
I was at pimlico the day he won the pearl necklace stake on the turf in 1986,wish he’d stayed in Maryland to ride, but he went back to New York, when the meet was over, excellent rider…
Emilio bimbo Rodriguez my favorite jockey ever and if he didn't went abroad he would created history, he would surpassed over 2000 winners easily and let not forget he was the stable jockey for Philip feanny and he would definitely get those mount on those great horses fanna feanny combination
You claimed if Bimbo had remained in Jamaica he would have ridden over 2000 winners!! You talk like I highly UNINTELLIGENT person....and here is why. You CAN'T know what would happen.... that's IMPOSSIBLE!! He could still have remained here and didn't do well! For example, Did you hear him say he had a weight problem??.....Did you realize how weight problem destroy other good jockeys, like Hubert Bartley??
Nuff blessings bimbo ,my favorite moments of bimbo was at Aqueduct in New York I believe it was a 8 to 10 horses photo finish bimbo on a horse name Practice the Piano got home at a price all now I'm smiling, bless bimbo.
You must be a real capper to pull "Practice The Piano", from your memory bank. I believe the odds was above or close to 50/1. Like everything in life, timing is everything - when Emilio first came on the NY scene and eventually started to ride for the legendary H. Allen Jerkens, who was always willing to provide an opportunity to thise who were willing to put in the work. Unfortunately, for Emilio this was during a transitional period where Jerkens had no firepower in the stable before relaunching with some nice horses like Sky Beauty.
Insightful interview. Bimbo definitely had his tribulations with weight. For a period of time he was referred to as a “heavyweight” jockey. Interesting to hear about the saddling differences in Venezuela. Would like to learn more about the reasoning for their methodology.
@@wayneanthony1089 I don’t think he meant anything by it. He is not the most verbose. Youngsters would probably be a better word. Bimbo is one of the most easygoing riders you will meet in person, hence his love by everyday race-goers back in the day. Some of the others you mentioned were more aloof (maybe shy) and didn’t engage much with fans. Some others were very “hype” but Bimbo would have a conversation with anyone.
@@paggyD2024I realize he's not so verbose....and not knocking him for that...I take your point....youngster would be more appropriate... Your response appears balance and reasonable....Respect my brother 👍👍 Bimbo is certainly one of the GREATEST riders ever at Caymanas.... Lucky Ole, Thorn Bird and Miracle Cure were really Bimbo at his BEST.... Lucky Ole Sun was a HEROIC ride.... Bimbo rode that horse for all it was worth....the horse collapsed after the race.... Although Fanna is my favorite jockey.... that Lucky Ole Sun Derby was the BEST Derby ever!!👍👍
Bimbo didn't turn up the straight 2 lenghs in front! Him turn inna the straight... leading by a neck...14 other horses surrounding him. ...an NOND couldn't pass. He won by the shortest of heads. Thats the greatest race I've seen him win. That and LUCKY OLE SON in the Derby.
I wish you asked Emilio about his ride on o.b. kanobi in the st.ledger when he jumped the inside rail while leading in the final furlong but under serious pressure from my apology and Hubert Bartley. To this day the debate rages as who would've won that race
I think the question was inturpitated wrongfully what I like to know is what kind of horses brings out the best of his ability a front runner hold up horses or prominent racer or in other words witch of the tree is he harder to get beat on ?
The Grey Pallas Athena caught her with a 16th to run , war zone came flying on the inside 2 more horses on the outside came flying also Heir to the throne n mr C.Hussy OD came 2nd. I think it's close for 3rd. But from 1 to 5 a short head separated them yea man
Willy Nilly was owned by Dooley McConnell and trained by Mrs Cligott and won with other riders. A very fast horse that always went straight to the front. Maybe you are mixing her up with a different horse.
Why, you never talked about your, friend and fellow rider,A, MacFarlane ak,Squirt, you use to come at, Kidd lane and, use to sleep up,there,at,his, family house
