Hurricane Larry knocked out power in Newfoundland

Hurricane Larry hit eastern Newfoundland overnight as a Category 1 storm, knocking out power throughout St. John's and the surrounding area in a short, sharp wallop of heavy winds, torrential rains and an unexpectedly high storm surge.

I was asleep didn't even notice the power going out but when I woke up mine and my neighbors fence was knocked down and a bit of my other neighbors house siding blew off.

The interesting thing about hurricanes is that they don't produce any lightning ⚡ despite having strong winds and rain. That usually also means lightning ⚡ but not in this case of this particular storm.

The National Hurricane Center has been naming them since 1957. Before that, no names. In 1979 they started using male names too. Now, they're chosen by The World Meteorological Assoc. A really bad storm like Katrina gets the name retired. They're choosing the 2022 names now. Alphabetical order.

@@urdadshotgf Wasn't much rain associated with it. Got about 10mm in my area. Mostly a wind event.
As time goes on and our climate changes more, I'm sure we will see stronger and more damaging storms here in Newfoundland.

I live up in Florida the afternoon thunder storms have worse wind it an almost daily thing around 4 pm. Also yes Florida gets the most hurricanes but if you live here any cost preparing for hurricanes is a no brainer I lived in Columbia South Carolina in the 80s and 90s the city in the middle of the state 300 miles from the coast a hurricane distroyed the city the power was out for almost 2 weeks. So be prepared.
