When I watch someone else declutter it does two things for me; I can see it is possible AND I feel like I'm doing something positive without actually doing anything lol.
I think NRM has been popular because you AREN'T an organizing expert, you keep stuff like the rest of us do, and you are a man. Most dedcluttering youtubers I see are women. The male point of view is refreshing. Additionally, a lot of people facing retirement and downsizing can relate to your content.
I think it's also that he's authentic and sharing his journey. I see some decluttering UA-camrs who say don't do x, y, z to declutter because it won't help... But buy my $297 course. It seems calculated rather than genuine.
I am a slob (for roughly 26,575 days). I love decluttering and cleaning videos. I do pick up great ideas and motivation from them - though not enough to miraculously change my ways. I don't watch your videos for the decluttering. I watch because you talk about interesting, relatable, topics. I love that, if I've been watching the other videos first, I have to turn the volume up because you are not yelling at me. I don't think you need to add more of any subject. Just keep on doing what you are doing.
I could write paragraphs (my husband often asks for the Readers Digest version)😂. I’m going to take my husband advice and just say thank you. I’m so glad I stumbled onto your decluttering video. You’re my kind of people.
I think there is so much pressure in our society to accumulate stuff that it’s so nice to find a community that says it’s ok to let things go. Also my Mom passed away last year and there was so much guilt with getting rid of so many of her items that I decided I didn’t want my kids to have to go through that when I die. Now I ask them when it comes to those sentimental items and I tell them, no guilt if you don’t want it.
I agree with you 100% I only wish that I had a child or two to offer family memorabilia and release some of the cherished items to. I hate the thought of some of these items ending up tossed into a bargain bin in a thrift store where people can paw through them, perhaps damaging them into nothing but items for landfill. Hey, that's my childhood you are tossing around, who are you to do that?? Glad you are facing these issues so quickly. For me, my family died 20 years ago (or almost for some)and though I gave away or donated 75 boxes of "stuff" the end of "stuff" does not seem much closer.
Watching others who are hoarders, listening to those who have had to deal with post Mortem cleanups of hoarding parents, and going through the process of helping hoarders let go of things (help with the decision process, identifying what is important to them, how to select The best among the OK, how to avoid eviction in one situation, and just doing the grunt work of hauling… All of that has taught me that starting now and starting small is 100% worth it, because I never want it to get that bad, and I don’t want to leave an overwhelming disaster to the next generation. And by that, I mean that even a normal household can have so much stuff that it is overwhelming to process post Mortem.… A time which is fraught with all kinds of difficult tasks on top of what regular life demands continually. And I don’t want to Declutter just for the next generation. I want to enjoy my home right now more than I do, aesthetically, with fresh, clean negative space. I want it to be easy to clean. I am not alone in that. I want it to be a healthy and safe place as well. That means I might have a few big bins of toilet paper and paper towels, etc. because we live in Hurricane country. I have extra food in the pantry, extra trash bags, dish soap, personal care items, etc., because I don’t want to depend on the store having those items in stock, when everyone else is rushing out to prepare for what may be Another long power outage. It just needs to stay within bounds and have it sound logical storage spot. It needs to be functional for me at my stage of life.… Which means that I have not just one, but TWO, large IKEA islands (freebies) because I’m not gonna get on the floor to revamp the length of curtains, recover fading/squirrel-torn patio furniture cushions, Cut out a pants or maxi-dress pattern. Or process piles of paper for a project. It means that I live in a larger house than is necessary because it has wonderful cupboards to store things in in the kitchen. And I have cut down on things so that it is very easy to access things in the kitchen instead of having to move stuff to get things behind other things. It means keeping a house with extra bedrooms, even though we have an empty nester now, because we love to have people come and stay with us. The rooms feel a bit more like hotel rooms, very minimal and functional, because I learned that it is hard to stay at someone’s house when all of their stuff is in the way. Or at a hotel that doesn’t provide needed amenities. No one will have to worry about doilies or decorative objects that might break when they come to my house. There will always be at least one chair to sit on instead of just the bed. They have at least one place to open the suitcase besides the bed. And I keep extra linen because Bad things happen when humans use Sheets and towels.😂. People might have mismatched items at my house, but they are clean. And I try to match things up the best I can. Or I get creative to make things coordinate a bit. A dwelling spot - house/apartment/mobile home/caravan/houseboat - is a tool for a living, And it’s wonderful when it functions to support your life. It’s even better when it’s a Home, that you can fill either permanently or temporarily with the people that you love.
As I clean I use your phrase "This one is going to go away." Now my husband is using it also as he cleans. Watching your decluttering videos gives me permission to throw out things I struggled to keep even though I had no business keeping them. Thanks!
Watching other people declutter or tackle some other "problem area" and seeing the transformation can be motivating or inspiring. I've been decluttering my own home for years but I still enjoy watching the decluttering and cleaning videos of others. 😊
Tim, what I find enjoyable about your channel is your openness, transparency and honesty. One can tell you don't want to be found in hypocrisy, I think, due to the fact you are used to coming clean before God, as a "former" minister. When one truly encounters the Living God, one can't help but be changed. How one stops being a minister I find is very difficult thing to do. It is like saying today I woke up and stopped caring about my family and mankind in general. True ministry comes out of a caring heart. I would much rather find a caring person who doesn't call himself a minister, than a minister who isn't caring. Perhaps in the future you could talk about the some of your favorite memories of ministry.
THANK YOU for sharing that you are "normal". Your house, though very nice, is not the latest in design. It’s not pristine white with all surfaces swept and cleared! It’s like mine! I can relate! At the same time, I also feel the need to improve as you so honestly shared. And I’m thankful for that. I’m 74 and thankful for the sense of purpose that greets me each morning. Thank You, Lord. 🙏🏼. May we all find those motivations to keep seeking, to not become complacent in our senior years.
After raising three children, I know that my children all required help to clean and organize their spaces. They did not know how to start or proceed. I think most ppl are very overwhelmed by how to manage their homes. You show them how to start. You give them directions on how to address from large to small items. You also support and offer a place to be a community. And, I have admiration for you as an adult, white, educated man who is willing to show the real you. You are a great role model. Thank you so much!
I'm also a guy in the declutter world in that I am the one that has always been organized and declutter my house very often, I'm someone who looks forward to trash day, haha. I think some of the comments about refreshing that this is from a man's point of view, when all the videos normally are 99% women, When I post on social media sites, I do get that same comment a lot, even from women. Although I am 20* years away from retirement, I find your videos relaxing and also your keep it simple methods. Keep up the great videos. PS I also used El;gato to transfer old VHS tapes to digital!
@@TheNewRetiredMe yes they did! I saved them on my Mac , also backed them up as well as uploaded to YT to keep as an easy way to share and view on a whim! Have a great week!
Had to L😃ugh @ the "Looking Forward to Trash Day" !! That's Me. Alway's Lookin' for "More" S-T-U-F-F to Throw Away !! Heading Toward's " 80," It Does Give Ya' Another Thing to Look Forward To. 😆 😅 🤣 😂
Your various topics provide informative and/or entertaining content, in a warm, conversant manner…offered logically yet personably. In each video YOU invite US in. Other UA-camrs often project an almost ‘lecturing’ tone in their content, or rush through their message like a checklist for the topic. I think different presentation methods appeal to different generations; your audience likely has a longer attention span to relish your longer videos. 😉 Thank you, Tim; keep on keepin’ on. You are very appreciated!
Hey Tim 👋. I am One that "Totally Agree's" with A-l-l of "AI's" List of Explanation's to the Question that You had Posed to Them. Each of Them Does Make Sense.👍🏻The "Community" On YOUR Channel, Is HERE Because Of YOU. Thanks for your honesty. We are all imperfect, I tell myself. While listening to you, I polished my living room furniture. Does it give me perfection? No, instead it gives me a lift, a feeling of well done!
One of the other things I've been told is a healthy thing for me to do at this stage of my life, along with decluttering, is making friends. Happy to say you're a friend who is helping me declutter (and we can talk about anything, like friends do, so any video content is perfect). Thanks
I love that you mentioned making friends. One of the best things about my life right now is making friends with young people, teens, people in their 20s, 30s, etc. I don’t wanna be that person that watches all of their best friends die one by one until they feel all alone, Hopeless. No one coming to visit them, no one is left to socialize with, unless they start over completely. And that’s tough for some people when they are older, and their mobility, vision and hearing aren’t all that good. I still have enough pep to offer some value in relationships to people, And it is a delight, when I find young people who are receptive to that.
I love watching decluttering videos, decorating videos, crafting videos, and lately cleaning videos. Specifically people who clean peoples homes for free because they need help due to mental problems, physical problems and hoarding. There aren’t a lot of men who do this, but I enjoy Mac at Midwest Magic cleaning he’s not only a man, he’s an autistic man, and he’s fabulous. I also like The Carla Project, Cleaning with Barbie, Auri Katarina, and I can’t remember the name of Bonnie’s channel, but they all clean peoples places for free. It’s funny you mentioned the lawnmowing because Mac was just talking about liking to watch those on one of his latest videos.
My guilty pleasure is watching the power washing videos. My only disappointment is that many of the residents don't seem very excited about the amazing transformation to their driveways, paths and sidewalks. I live in rental accommodation and would love if more care was provided to the property. I can only do so much physically and financially. I really enjoy the eclectic nature of your videos.
I love that! I’m gonna have to look for power washing videos now! I think when people are not excited at the final reveal, there’s probably deep depression going on, along with some shame that it got so bad. At least that would be my guess. I don’t know what your physical limitations are, but I’ve had some that make it difficult to climb ladders and get up and down from the floor. But I’ve been trading workdays with a loved one who needs help with a grubby cleaning job that has a bit of unpleasant emotional aspects on top of that. She climbs the ladder, and gets on the floor, at my house. And then, at her house, I can deal with breaking down/tossing things at ground level that are difficult for her to handle from a filth/emotional standpoint. And I did some online research and figured out why her recycling wasn’t getting picked up (they were fussy because she put the can in front of her house under a tree). We are gradually making progress that we could not make easily on our own.🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 And we have done a lot of talking together about what’s hard for us, what helps us, and why. I think the talking part is really important, so even if you have physical limitations, you probably still have a lot to offer.
I just want to say that in todays judgemental society there are two choices of how people see others in this category. We are either minimalist OCD mental cases or we are disgusting hoarding slobs. I like to think that most of us fall in the middle and are more in the regular trying to keep things in a workable, usable, healthy order type people. When I was younger and my son was a teen my house was immaculate and honestly it made people uncomfortable. My son and his now wife said my house looked like better homes and gardens which at the time I took as a compliment. Now I see it more as an issue that I kept my house way too perfect and it was exhausting! I enjoy your channel and your topics. Thanks for sharing all your goings on with us!
While visiting my older sister, I leaned forward momentarily, turning abruptly to find her quickly fluffing up the pillow I had been leaning against ;-) This is now one of my special, treasured memories because, thankfully, it wasn't a repeating thing☺️
I think you’re right, that most people fall in the middle. And we are at this junction in our culture (the fall of an empire, if you live in United States, we are recognizably in that state of disarray), and culture is repeatedly telling us that we are consuming too much. By would measure, I ask? And why is it mainly the rich people that are telling us that? The people that consume so very much as they fly around on their jets, sometimes with their SUVs on board, so they can drive their big gas guzzlers when they arrive in other countries to talk about how the little people have too much stuff. How they need to stop eating so much meat and eat crickets instead, and go plant-based even though Vegetarians and vegans often get really bad health problems on this plan. You can’t prescribe that sort of eating on everyone, because everyone doesn’t thrive on it. My BS meter goes off quite a lot when those same people tell us that in 2030 we will own nothing, and be happy. Someone’s gonna own all that stuff - robably them. If you listen to them enough, they tell you outright that they think that you need to be governed by an aristocratic elite… Them. What really irks me is that people don’t realize how much culture influences their thinking, how much the media (owned by Them, controlled by Them) shapes the values of society by an incessant barrage of messaging. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to own more than I need for the present, and some things for the future… Just the same way we should all have an emergency fund for the future. But I resent being told by others who do not give up their stuff that I need to give up mine… and I hear the seed of that in all the fun decluttering videos online. I love them. But I also see help peoples minds are being shaped, what kind of videos are allowed and encouraged, and what kinds are smothered. Shadowbanned. Censored. Removed. In a sense, these videos are a soft propaganda. That sounds good, feels good, and are completely well intentioned and helpful in many ways, and their success is evidence that the brainwashing is working. And also that it is not… That people like you see the middle ground and reject the condemnation of the extremes. BTW, I love it when my house looks a bit like better homes, and gardens. And I like it when people say that it looks great. Inviting. Room for everyone. And yet… Cozy. Because that’s what I want them to feel. It’s how I want to feel. It doesn’t stay perfect when people come over, or when we live our daily lives, but I love that I can make it that way pretty quickly. Well, at least I can when I’m not in the middle of a painting project! Which I am, right now.😂.
Decluttering is either something one grew up having it modeled in the home or one did not. In the West, with the easy availability of almost anything you could want in 5-20 versions it is very easy to accumulate too much. Watching videos of folks recognizing this tipping point and illustrate it and discuss the costs and benefits is highly informative. Finding kindred spirits in that process is an unexpected bonus which crosses all boundaries: socio economic, gender, age, ethnicity --- you name it. It truly is a topic to bridge as well as create a generation gap. Very powerful stuff, Murdoch. So also very appealing. Thank you for making such high quality content. Were the pans done with a Go Pro? Very smoooooth.
You’re honesty and transparency in your decluttering process is so refreshing. You have created a wonderful channel and this community is a such blessing. I was naive when I started this journey. The more I declutter, the more I see what needs to be decluttered. 😂 In the meantime, you are helping us enjoy a more peaceful home and life. No judgement here. We can kindly encourage each other and continue to learn: maybe not perfectly but we are getting there. God bless you.
I used to keep an immaculate home then I got lazy, sloppy and complacent. I’d clean when I was expectant and wouldn’t answer the food if someone showed up unexpectedly. Your decluttering videos are fun to watch and therefore give me the motivated to declutter or clean up various areas in my home. Baby steps. Love your videos and thank you for sharing yourself with all of us.
Tim,you are so calm & easygoing in your video's, watching you is enjoyable. My husband & I retired a year ago & "reducing our inventory", has added a calmness to our lives. Love mowing shows on You Tube too! Have a Great Day.
I was not looking for decluttering when your channel popped up on my youtube home page. I am more interested in photography, but I did not hear of your photo channel until I heard you mention it here. I have done a good deal of decluttering over the years and did a bit one in 2008, a little every day that year. It may be that the youtube algorithm took me here because I am retired (6 years now). You have a calm presence that has kept me coming back. Most of what I follow on youtube are livestreamers who walk in New York City. James & Karla and Dutchmazz are among my favorites. James & Karla are professional photographers who like to show small, independent stores in New York City (there are fewer of them as time goes by). They also point out architectural gems in the city.
Bravo, Tim! Totally agree with many of the great comments here! Your brutal, humble honesty about yourself & life is incredibly real & refreshing & draws me in every time! I love what you said about “creating community”, sharing visions & burdens. I, too, watch the lawn clean up as well as Jimmy Darts. I see these as Christian Community too. Like rescue missions for good folks who have just fallen on hard times. And great people (Community) pulling together to get people out of their situation. Gets me in the heart every single time! You’re always so very gracious to your community! I feel very blessed! You have been deeply touched by our Good Lord, Tim. I look forward to learning more from your mission! Keep on truckin’. With much gratitude & mad respect. Dee
Thank you for once again keeping it REAL. I think your openness and honesty come through, which these days is refreshing. Also, as I have said to you before, having a "seasoned" persons perspective (and a male one to boot) is unique in YT Land.
I love that you asked the question of AI . It’s fascinating that it is a such a thing , but something that I’m invested in , but like you say ... tho I don’t agree about you . That I can be a slob too . I loved that it does invoke a sense of community of like minded people who do want to try their best . Your videos inspire me , whatever you speak about and I just love to listen regardless , but your whole take on it is such a different approach which is working . ! You deserve your audience ten fold ,! Thanks for sharing . Uk 🇬🇧
Your house is not dirty. It is cluttered with activities of your daily life. The tools of your trade and the things you use every day. I don’t feel that needs to be cleaned up every day. I usually go through and tidy once a week or a little more often if I’m bothered by it. I have projects that need to be left out because putting them away would make you forget about doing them. I do love watching decluttering videos for the reason of seeing other peoples methods and getting motivated to really analyze my possessions and often times after I watch one I get up and go declutter something. I also find it very fascinating or mesmerizing to watch the people who go up and pressure wash driveways and sidewalks or clear out an entire lawn. There’s something about it that I enjoy seeing the before and after.
I prefer 10-15 minute videos. I like your approach is about essentials and not on all the things I can buy to make my home *look* organized. I also find that watching people declutter OR sharing their decluttering journey without showing the process help be feel connected, in a way, to a community if people who are trying to improve their lives - so I feel in a way sorted in my efforts along the same line. I wonder if people saying videos should be longer are people who want to watch, or people advising from a YT revenue perspective. (And like you I do like mowing and pressure washing videos - it helped me know that my yard was not beyond redemption. It helped me learn techniques and cultivate a more constructive anti hoarding attitude about plants. Now I get complements from my neighbors on my yard.)
While I like some of the decluttering, I also like the photography or any other artistic endeavors, travel, I also like your messiness. When you live alone there is such freedom to do what you want, when and where you want, leaving stuff out to come back to whenever the mood or ideas strike you. That is what I love so much about my retirement now moving toward my 3rd year. I subscribed here as soon as your first vid popped up because I wanted to see how your retirement progressed and bevause I'm addicted to several YT communities. Way more interesting than TV in the last couple years. Oh, I like the carnivore content as well.
As a soon to be retiree I am definitely going to get rid of stuff not due to watching YT but want make time to do more. I think we all looking for the magic formula to being a minimalist but we like our stuff. Like the drama music as you showed your stuff, pretty cool. Reminder me of an old series called how clean is your house. I enjoy your videos and keep posting! Cheers!
Yes! I definitely believe a big part is about community. Often when I see UA-cam creators I must have the feeling that I have something in common with them. I also follow real people who live in a real world. None of is is perfect but we all have aspirations, we still try to meet "good enough". Many times we try different things, we make mistakes, but it's okay. You aren't striving for perfection but being better. I think people who watch and connect with you feel that too.
You are real! And for me it’s as simple as that. You share who you want to be vs who you are. And to varying degrees, isn’t that what we’re all dealing with? Peace - John
I enjoy your channel because you are so relatable (I’m another lifelong slob). Thanks for showing your messes I don’t feel so bad now. Keep up the good work 😊
You’re speaking my language! I also move the piles of clutter around. Honestly, I was relieved to see that you were a little more disorganized than I initially thought. 😂
I can't speak for anyone else, but saying its okay to have interests and hobbies outside of decluttering is helpful for me. My main to sometimes only hobby in the last almost 20 years was trying to stay sane, get my house under control, and deal with stuff. Sometimes I've felt guilty for keeping the crotchet patterns and art supplies and sewing stuff. But it is stuff I wanted to work on and enjoy doing that I just felt I couldn't because I "should be" dealing with all the extra stuff. Thank you.
@@GoingGreenMom - my mom enjoyed sewing and crocheting and other artistic endeavors and somehow didn’t have clutter. I inadvertently let some organic tomatoes go bad and my seed harvesting project is on the kitchen counter without a home. 🤣 And I’m looking forward to more sewing sometime after Hurricane cleanup is done. 42 bags of tree fall debris and counting…
When I watched your first video I wanted to see what you accumulated and how you were going to let go. You are older so clearly some items have sentimental value and I wanted to see that process. I like your other content too like ur trip to Scotland. You have a very steady voice and laugh that I enjoy also. Are you a fraud? No. You're basically just vlogging your life and all its different times. Your channel is called New Retired Me not Decluttering Pro😂 Keep up the great content!
I watch these types of videos for ideas, inspiration, motivation, company in the process, understanding, self reflection, and generally not to feel alone in this world. 60, divorced, on disability and rent upstairs from a hoarder for the time being. Generally, I am a very organized but have entered a very different stage of life with needs and desires to live the last decades of my life enjoyably. Thanks for your vidoes!
Hi Tim, all of your videos give me a sense of calm. I’m newly retired as well. You gave us a glimpse that creativity involves how we have worked all of our lives. Our projects deserve space and we can have many on the go. We can tidy when we are finished with them. Again Thank you for been you.
I think that the simple answer is that people who watch decluttering videos are interested in getting rid of stuff and watching them makes you realize... "I can do that!"😊
Thankfully noticing the notification of your video saved me from doing some house work! 😊. For me it’s trying to work up the enthusiasm to start something instead of being in a CBA mood. (Can’t be arsed!) once I start it’s ok but it’s the actual starting that’s the problem. I watch the videos to try and give me the motivation to actually get off my backside and do something. Love the vid, glad I feel part of your community. 👍
Getting started on things I don’t want to do is so hard! I’m forever having to reframe unpleasant jobs to myself, mentally. (“Do you want to be stressed or happier at the end of the day because you did this horrible icky thing? Or You are fabulous at XYZ, and you feel so powerful when you accomplish it!) I’ll go with what works. 😂. I also like to just tell myself I can do the first thing. The first thing might be something like “walk over to my desk, and look at the pile of mail.“ No other expectation required, but generally that resulted in me, sorting it, and dealing with the low hanging fruit of junk mail, With the shredder, the trashcan, and the recycle bin at hand. Worst case scenario, I know that there’s a bill that needs to be paid by a certain date, or that it is time to research insurance plans before committing to the same company for another period of time. And I might put that on my digital to do list. With a flag. And due date. Then I worked myself up for the next thing that will get me over the hump, like - Pick two companies to call for competitive quotes and jot down their phone numbers. Baby steps, baby. It gets me there eventually. 😊 Doing other unimportant chores has been my default way too many times. I’m glad I got those other tasks done, but they didn’t calm me, cancel anxiety, or make me feel empowered the way that dealing with the icky task does.😢
Some of us have quilt over having so much stuff. We see that we are not alone. Comfort of community is a great thing. I really enjoy your channel and love that it’s not all the same thing. You are documenting your life and it is interesting. Thanks for sharing.
Good stuff, Tim! If you are a slob, you are the neatest slop I've ever known. Your studio is fantastic, even if you have to rearrange a little to operate it. The AI Questions and answers were certainly interesting.
I really enjoy your videos because you share the reality of life. I am an educator planning to retire in 3.5 years. I have worked to declutter my classroom a bit every year so I don't have a monumental task on my final day. Thank you for being real.
Thank You! I have a huge mess in my house and struggle with getting my act together. One thing I notice about your mess is that your place is clean. Mine has dust bunnies and yes, even cobwebs. But I watch a decluttering video and am inspired to do something to organize my space. I love your videos and I love the variety. I do feel welcomed here.
It is a joy to take a dusting tool with a nice long handle, plus a vacuum to deal with each uncovered square foot of floor 😊. And then it’s going to be very easy to keep clean after that. Putting things on wheels helps as well.… It can take time to go through stuff. But we can keep things cleaner if we can roll the pile this way and that. Heck, I just like certain pieces of furniture on wheels anyway because it’s easier to pull out and vacuum behind things!😂 Best wishes on overcoming your dust bunnies! It can be incredibly satisfying! ❤❤❤
I’m almost 59, I have been obsessed with organizing and cleaning since about the age of 10, I think cause it’s the only thing in my life I feel I can control. I can tell you where EVERYTHING is in my home. I wish sometimes I was normal. 😂Congratulations on 43k
You keep the content real. Thank you for making it easy to relate to you thru UA-cam. You're braver than I am, showing us your mess! I think to some degree we all have the "fraud" in us. Thx Tim!
You're keeping it real, Tim. Another reason to like your videos. I've enjoyed all of your posts regardless of the topic. Happy to be part of the community.
Hi Tim, The question you posed to AI was cool. It listed interesting and as you said valid points. I was impressed with the answers. AI scares me and I'm glad that you don't. 😄 De-cluttering seems to be a life long process for so many people. Even when you complete it, you can mess it up and have to start all over again. I've been forever working on letting go of too many things that I don't need. My home is fairly tidy but I've too many dust collector's. Some came with the family home and some are mine. For the last 10 years I've been able to part with and donate much to good causes and will continue to do so. However, I'd prefer this not to ultimately become a life long journey. Letting go of things that I like and have value come with good memories. I can certainly live without them, but I draw the line at some. Still, I push through and slowly make progress. I'm developing more ways to move faster. For example, at least pack them away. Most importantly, living the new retired me is fun. Downsizing and doing the things that I love to do is awesome. Amateur photography is one of my passions so always enjoy your videos on that as well. Bonus for me! Thanks Tim!
I think people are looking for a realistic way to relieve the anxiety that cluttered space brings on. Watching another person have successful outcomes tells us we can too.
Now i understand why I watch decluttering videos so much! 😄👌 I'm the same with those yard makeovers... bringing order to chaos is satisfying to watch 😊
Great content Tim! I have watched the overgrown yard videos you have described. Some of them have a drama theme I don't care for .Some of them are people who first simply love to mow yards and secondly love people. I would say that decluttering videos can be like exercising videos ,they can inspire ,motivate and create community . I will touch one of these ,motivation . Motivation is doing something that no one may see, or hear of or a video be posted. It is simply something you do for your own self worth and well being! I like tidy , I like to clean, I have always been this way. Now when I cook ,grill , wash the car you name it I can mess doing something, but I will cleanup. My wife always says ,you make a mess but you always clean up!
For me, it is all motivating. Whether it is a pro whithout needing to declutter but just showing organization or a cleaner doing a hoarding cleanup. It helps me not to feel like I'm alone with my mess. I watch and maybe that is the day I decide to pick up even one or two more things. When I'm on a roll, maybe a bag of it. Thanks, I do appreciate it!
I agree community is so important be it in person or on social media this world doesn’t have enough of a community truly especially since covid hit. I enjoy your videos and the groups comments I for one am so very glad you did this I look forward to each post you do.
People watch decluttering & cleaning videos for the same reason they watch handbag organization videos! Sometimes if the world seems to be spinning out of control (don't watch too much news), you have gained a tiny handle on your world to feel like you got a little bit of control back!
Your community is finally subscribing. Congrats on the growth of the channel. My take on not keeping things picked up and not put away is that we are lonely, who's going to see but me? etc. People who live in partnerships take a bit more pride in their dwellings I've noticed. I have one room, my sewing room that need reorganizing but if I do that I'll never be able to find anything! LOL.
Hi Tim. I think that watching 'other' people on UA-cam clean or declutter, gives us a sense of accomplishment, as if we ourselves did the work and that's why we watch. As long as I'm watching I'm gathering research and that is also satisfying. People like me, who are overwhelmed by our space or stuff will do ANYTHING that will distract our eyes from the chaos around us. That's my theory, anyway. I could be wrong. I've certainly been wrong before. Thanks for the video. Have a wonderful day!
Very interesting. I think many of us are 'slob-oholics' trying to break the cycle after taking a true look at ourselves and our relationship with 'stuff'. And watching your videos, and others like it, really helps.
I love your videos. Keep them coming. Blessed is a perfect way to described the community you’ve created. Just to get my vote in, I’m one of those that likes the “around 10 minute videos. 😁 Easier to set aside the time for watching. You are neither a slob nor a fraud. You, like us all, are human.
OH MY GOSH I started laughing at "total slob"- you're so honest and 'real'! The background music looking at the mess...so foreboding. 😂 BAHAHA! I love the yard videos too... AL Blades. Love it when they wash the concrete. I love the scene in Larry Crowne (Tom Hanks Julia Roberts) where Talia goes into Larry's house and gives it the Feng Shui. Love that movie. ❤🎉
I think you could ask AI the same question of many different topics of UA-cam content and get the same answers. I watch several from decluttering to knitting to homesteading. Even the lawn cutting. They are all inspirational and motivational. And I read the comments. There is such a nice community of real people out there under each video. If you put positive content out there, you encourage positivity in others. Keep up the good work. And I am slightly horrified by the mess😂😉.
Tim you're such a joy to watch..I enjoy your videos. You're doing well in your house and it all takes time to get it how you want ..you're not a slob . For me I try to put things away after I finish with them really helps keep things neat.
I also think that the community appreciates your authenticity and willingness to be vulnerable. At least I appreciate that. (side note: I LOVE your mic, what Rode mic is it?)
I appreciate living in an ordered space. I love being lazy. The two create conflict 😅. The way I resolved this was to create a specific place for everything...just as you are doing Tim. I don't put anything away unless I put it in it's specific spot. I'd rather live with disorder for a few days than to create clutter by stuffing a closet or drawer. I can live with dust apparently. Hopeless case here?
I'm grateful that your channel is not only about decluttering. What I enjoy about your channel is the mix of interests and topics you discuss. I think I especially enjoy it because you're navigating your retirement and giving us all a glimpse of what our own retirements might look like. Keep plugging along the slob journey, from one slob to another. You'll get there.
I really like Your videos even if You were just working on old cars. You are a very likeable and honest person.A couple more cooking videos would be cool too ! just saying lol....
I like your videos because most decluttering channels are stay at home moms cleaning up after their kids all the time and as a single person with no kids or pets, I can’t relate. I like watching calm, single people that I can relate to. I also think you’re well spoken and have a nice voice to listen to. The main reason I watch any decluttering videos though is for motivation and inspiration like the AI said. I also like watching daily or weekly vlogs from the same channels, but not of other random channels. I get a sense of getting to know someone that I can relate to.
I love all the comments below. I hate searching for things, one of the reasons I started decluttering, so everything I now own has a place to live. I’ve become more thoughtful about my purchases, no need to add more to the landfill in the long run. Finally, perhaps like other “older” viewers who have a lifetime of their own stuff, plus inherited stuff from prior generations, I gave myself permission to let go of anything that took up space without adding value to my life.
I love to watch decluttering videos for inspiration. But then again, I also watch hoarding videos for the judgy feel-good dopamine hit they provide. In my attempts at decluttering, I mostly move my clutter around. I may have one area that I’ve decluttered and it looks great, but I’ve moved all that clutter to another area where I’ve succeeded at making more messy than it’s ever been. I have lots of pop-up messes! For me, it’s a vicious cycle. When I want to hide all my messes, I invite people over. Works every time!
Old saying: " Place for everything and everything in its place " has real value :) as a comment on the cluttering you are showing in your place :) I have a lot of interests too and often have trouble organizing or finding the time. Some people say they can't work unless their desks are organized and clean, I can work on a cluttered desk though too much dust will get me, and can't tolerate food drippings... I can recall where something is in a pile but still, I am always wishing to have everything totally organized and spotless :) I watch cleaning videos LOL...
I just found your channel, this is the second video that I watched. I´m in my late thirties and most decluttering videos I´ve seen were made by mothers that are probably around my age. I appreciate hearing what someone who is a bit older than me has to say about it. Thank you!
When I watch someone else declutter it does two things for me; I can see it is possible AND I feel like I'm doing something positive without actually doing anything lol.
😅
😅
I think NRM has been popular because you AREN'T an organizing expert, you keep stuff like the rest of us do, and you are a man. Most dedcluttering youtubers I see are women. The male point of view is refreshing. Additionally, a lot of people facing retirement and downsizing can relate to your content.
I think it's also that he's authentic and sharing his journey.
I see some decluttering UA-camrs who say don't do x, y, z to declutter because it won't help... But buy my $297 course. It seems calculated rather than genuine.
I appreciate that
The male pov is a draw
is just him! the cool kid
🥰
🙂

I’m in the process of doing the same.
🥰
🙂
As I clean I use your phrase "This one is going to go away." Now my husband is using it also as he cleans. Watching your decluttering videos gives me permission to throw out things I struggled to keep even though I had no business keeping them. Thanks!
☺
🙂

🙂
☺
THANK YOU for sharing that you are "normal". Your house, though very nice, is not the latest in design. It’s not pristine white with all surfaces swept and cleared! It’s like mine! I can relate!
At the same time, I also feel the need to improve as you so honestly shared. And I’m thankful for that. I’m 74 and thankful for the sense of purpose that greets me each morning. Thank You, Lord. 🙏🏼. May we all find those motivations to keep seeking, to not become complacent in our senior years.
🙂
After raising three children, I know that my children all required help to clean and organize their spaces. They did not know how to start or proceed. I think most ppl are very overwhelmed by how to manage their homes. You show them how to start. You give them directions on how to address from large to small items.
You also support and offer a place to be a community.
And, I have admiration for you as an adult, white, educated man who is willing to show the real you. You are a great role model. Thank you so much!
🥰
😂 He’s not exactly a “retired” educator, is he? He continues to educate people here on UA-cam, just by sharing his story!
🙂
You are a lovely gentleman and I appreciate your honesty.

I completely lost it at ‘I can explain’ with the menacing music 😂

I'm also a guy in the declutter world in that I am the one that has always been organized and declutter my house very often, I'm someone who looks forward to trash day, haha. I think some of the comments about refreshing that this is from a man's point of view, when all the videos normally are 99% women, When I post on social media sites, I do get that same comment a lot, even from women. Although I am 20* years away from retirement, I find your videos relaxing and also your keep it simple methods. Keep up the great videos. PS I also used El;gato to transfer old VHS tapes to digital!
Thanks for watching! I hope your videos transferred successfully!
@@TheNewRetiredMe yes they did! I saved them on my Mac , also backed them up as well as uploaded to YT to keep as an easy way to share and view on a whim! Have a great week!

Thank you, Tim; keep on keepin’ on. You are very appreciated!

It's even more refreshing that your place looks like that, sometimes. Reality.

Thanks
I’m honored!
🙂
I love that you mentioned making friends. One of the best things about my life right now is making friends with young people, teens, people in their 20s, 30s, etc. I don’t wanna be that person that watches all of their best friends die one by one until they feel all alone, Hopeless. No one coming to visit them, no one is left to socialize with, unless they start over completely. And that’s tough for some people when they are older, and their mobility, vision and hearing aren’t all that good. I still have enough pep to offer some value in relationships to people, And it is a delight, when I find young people who are receptive to that.
☺
😊
😊
My guilty pleasure is watching the power washing videos. My only disappointment is that many of the residents don't seem very excited about the amazing transformation to their driveways, paths and sidewalks. I live in rental accommodation and would love if more care was provided to the property. I can only do so much physically and financially. I really enjoy the eclectic nature of your videos.
They really are amazing!
😊
🙂
🤗☺
🙂
😊
🙂

Dee

There’s something about it that I enjoy seeing the before and after.
oh, my endless projects in my house! I hear you...
I so enjoy your content; please keep sharing! Enjoy the beautiful Season we are in.

Thank you.
😊
Going green mom, have you worked on any of your other hobbies since you posted this? Or found something better to do besides continuous decluttering?

Thank you so much!
💯
🙂

☺
You’re funny 😆. Love your honesty !
🤗
This is the channel I put on that gets me up to clean/ declutter! Thanks for that!
🤗☺
😊😊
I think that the simple answer is that people who watch decluttering videos are interested in getting rid of stuff and watching them makes you realize... "I can do that!"😊
😊
Thankfully noticing the notification of your video saved me from doing some house work! 😊. For me it’s trying to work up the enthusiasm to start something instead of being in a CBA mood. (Can’t be arsed!) once I start it’s ok but it’s the actual starting that’s the problem. I watch the videos to try and give me the motivation to actually get off my backside and do something.
Love the vid, glad I feel part of your community. 👍
😊
Doing other unimportant chores has been my default way too many times. I’m glad I got those other tasks done, but they didn’t calm me, cancel anxiety, or make me feel empowered the way that dealing with the icky task does.😢
🙂🙂
Some of us have quilt over having so much stuff. We see that we are not alone. Comfort of community is a great thing. I really enjoy your channel and love that it’s not all the same thing. You are documenting your life and it is interesting. Thanks for sharing.

Good stuff, Tim! If you are a slob, you are the neatest slop I've ever known. Your studio is fantastic, even if you have to rearrange a little to operate it. The AI Questions and answers were certainly interesting.

🤗
A lovely, honest video. Very comforting.
🙂
🤗☺☺
I really enjoy your videos because you share the reality of life. I am an educator planning to retire in 3.5 years. I have worked to declutter my classroom a bit every year so I don't have a monumental task on my final day. Thank you for being real.
🤗☺
🤗
I only watch shorter videos. I don’t have time to just sit and watch videos all day. I like your videos just as they are.
🤗☺

Thx Tim!

I love your honesty, thanks for sharing.

Thanks Tim!
🤗☺🙂
Great video Tim. I agree with all of the above! I like those yard videos too👍🏼
🤗☺🙂
I loved the music you used when you gave us the house tour!
🤗☺🙂
I like your straight forward attitude, the calm way you say things. Your video on why not to put others down was just very good 👍🙂
💚💚👍
🙂😊
I think people are looking for a realistic way to relieve the anxiety that cluttered space brings on. Watching another person have successful outcomes tells us we can too.
😊
That dramatic music at 3:45 got me thinking something was going to jump out 😂 😂😂
LOL
😅👍
😅
Now i understand why I watch decluttering videos so much! 😄👌 I'm the same with those yard makeovers... bringing order to chaos is satisfying to watch 😊
💚👍
🙂🙂
From one slob to another, just keep on sharing your wonderful content! Most enjoyable & much loved & appreciated by all! 🤗

🤗☺😊
🤗
Thank you for sharing your thoughts with so many! I’ll be watching!
🤗☺

🤗☺😊
🤗
Brilliant, I love watching your videos 😊
☺☺☺
People watch decluttering & cleaning videos for the same reason they watch handbag organization videos! Sometimes if the world seems to be spinning out of control (don't watch too much news), you have gained a tiny handle on your world to feel like you got a little bit of control back!
💚
This was so cool. A bit frightening how well artificial intelligence answered the question but still the points were spot on. Keep up the good work.
🤗☺
Your community is finally subscribing. Congrats on the growth of the channel. My take on not keeping things picked up and not put away is that we are lonely, who's going to see but me? etc.
People who live in partnerships take a bit more pride in their dwellings I've noticed. I have one room, my sewing room that need reorganizing but if I do that I'll never be able to find anything! LOL.

🤗
AI agrees with you! :)

💚👍
☺
OH MY GOSH I started laughing at "total slob"- you're so honest and 'real'! The background music looking at the mess...so foreboding. 😂
BAHAHA! I love the yard videos too... AL Blades. Love it when they wash the concrete. I love the scene in Larry Crowne (Tom Hanks Julia Roberts) where Talia goes into Larry's house and gives it the Feng Shui. Love that movie. ❤🎉
🤗☺🙂
Thank you so much for your content
@@The-New-Retired-Me oh my God, you really think people are going to reply and text you. Leave the UA-camr alone and get a real job.
🙂🙂
I think you could ask AI the same question of many different topics of UA-cam content and get the same answers. I watch several from decluttering to knitting to homesteading. Even the lawn cutting. They are all inspirational and motivational. And I read the comments. There is such a nice community of real people out there under each video. If you put positive content out there, you encourage positivity in others. Keep up the good work. And I am slightly horrified by the mess😂😉.
☺🤗
☺
Tim you're such a joy to watch..I enjoy your videos. You're doing well in your house and it all takes time to get it how you want ..you're not a slob . For me I try to put things away after I finish with them really helps keep things neat.

I also think that the community appreciates your authenticity and willingness to be vulnerable. At least I appreciate that. (side note: I LOVE your mic, what Rode mic is it?)
Thank you! It is the Rode Wireless Go. :)

Very heartfelt video.

🙂🙂🙂🙂
I appreciate living in an ordered space. I love being lazy. The two create conflict 😅. The way I resolved this was to create a specific place for everything...just as you are doing Tim. I don't put anything away unless I put it in it's specific spot. I'd rather live with disorder for a few days than to create clutter by stuffing a closet or drawer. I can live with dust apparently. Hopeless case here?
🤗☺🙂
Thank you for sharing these thoughts.
🤗☺☺
I'm grateful that your channel is not only about decluttering. What I enjoy about your channel is the mix of interests and topics you discuss. I think I especially enjoy it because you're navigating your retirement and giving us all a glimpse of what our own retirements might look like. Keep plugging along the slob journey, from one slob to another. You'll get there.
🤗☺
I really like Your videos even if You were just working on old cars. You are a very likeable and honest person.A couple more cooking videos would be cool too ! just saying lol....
Cooking is coming. :)
🤗☺😊
I like your videos because most decluttering channels are stay at home moms cleaning up after their kids all the time and as a single person with no kids or pets, I can’t relate. I like watching calm, single people that I can relate to. I also think you’re well spoken and have a nice voice to listen to. The main reason I watch any decluttering videos though is for motivation and inspiration like the AI said. I also like watching daily or weekly vlogs from the same channels, but not of other random channels. I get a sense of getting to know someone that I can relate to.
🤗☺🙂
Thank you for making me laugh, it is inspiring to see that you are not taking yourself seriously.
I say yes to the community. 😀💟
🤗
I love all the comments below. I hate searching for things, one of the reasons I started decluttering, so everything I now own has a place to live. I’ve become more thoughtful about my purchases, no need to add more to the landfill in the long run. Finally, perhaps like other “older” viewers who have a lifetime of their own stuff, plus inherited stuff from prior generations, I gave myself permission to let go of anything that took up space without adding value to my life.
👍🏻😂
🤗☺🙂
I love to watch decluttering videos for inspiration. But then again, I also watch hoarding videos for the judgy feel-good dopamine hit they provide. In my attempts at decluttering, I mostly move my clutter around. I may have one area that I’ve decluttered and it looks great, but I’ve moved all that clutter to another area where I’ve succeeded at making more messy than it’s ever been. I have lots of pop-up messes! For me, it’s a vicious cycle. When I want to hide all my messes, I invite people over. Works every time!
🤗☺🙂
Old saying: " Place for everything and everything in its place " has real value :) as a comment on the cluttering you are showing in your place :) I have a lot of interests too and often have trouble organizing or finding the time. Some people say they can't work unless their desks are organized and clean, I can work on a cluttered desk though too much dust will get me, and can't tolerate food drippings... I can recall where something is in a pile but still, I am always wishing to have everything totally organized and spotless :) I watch cleaning videos LOL...
🤗☺🙂
I just found your channel, this is the second video that I watched. I´m in my late thirties and most decluttering videos I´ve seen were made by mothers that are probably around my age. I appreciate hearing what someone who is a bit older than me has to say about it. Thank you!
🤗☺🙂
I'm glad they aren't all about decluttering, I love diversity and your channel has it.
that's really a positive!
My husband never picks up/ puts away. I have been working on getting rid of almost 60 years of stuff and like the “declutter videos” for ideas.
💚👍

Not a fraud, just real. :) Keep it up until it becomes a habit. It really helps. I ❤ watching your progress.... :)
