    honestly even with a single guy voicing them all, they managed to breathe personality into all of the dwarves. Scout is that squeaky child who screams mommy every 2 minutes, Engineer is the guy you wanna hang out with, Driller is a maniac who eats rocks for breakfast, Gunner feels surprisingly sane (compared to driller) gym rat who likes lifting and shooting. Their voices do them justice from my experience

      @@pantuternik The voices being all the same just pitched up or down is so iconic now tho. I actually found it adds MORE character to them than a seperate voice because you may hear the same voiceline but it feels like its said differently because of the pitching, also adds to the funny factor imo. And afaik the voice actor for the dwarves is actually an inhouse coder so it'd be way easier scheduling for new voice lines (wich they are adding a ton of every season now) than to hire 4 seperate voice actors

    4:25 Heres the thing, Deep Rock's maps also have the handcrafted aspect. Each map is made of both handmade areas that have been modified a bit by the game, and procedural generation that means it doesn't get old.

    I’d like to say this about scout, he has TWO support tools. The flares of course help you see. But the grapple is crazy useful on teams. Scout can kite bugs and lure them around while evading so the rest of the team can deal with smaller hoards. This is specifically useful on any static defense mission. It also helps him eliminate far off high priority targets like wardens and menaces.

    • @Old_Man_Bernard
      @Old_Man_Bernard Рік тому +9

      it's as much of a support tool as a gun is. It can help your team, but it does a lot more for yourself than others.

    • @TheSpeep
      @TheSpeep Рік тому +2

      Arguably so do the other classes, at least depending on how you build em.
      Gunner has shields, which are lifesavers for the whole team when timed well, and ziplines, which while slow and limited, are very useful as transport, vantage point and to break your fall.
      Driller gets a little complicated, because while his satchels do have some support use, I wont count them because we all know saving lives is not what theyre gonna do to your teammates, but his drills might be the most versatile support tool in the game, and if you build his EPC for ranged mining he might actually be faster at gathering nitra than your scout, its my go to way of playing driller nowadays.
      Lastly, Engineer's platforms are already very useful, as are his turrets but if those were counted youd basically have to count every gun in the game too, but his grenades, specifically his lure and mines are in their own ways also a kind of support tool, though of course the latter can also be great at friendly firing your teammates.

      @@TheSpeep I use ziplines to fight dreadnoughts and golden bug. I'm not sure why nobody else does it, but staying in the air is like a cheat move. • @rats_3
    @rats_3 Рік тому +92

    It actually took me a while to figure out that the dwarves were all voiced by the same guy. It's probably because all of the voicelines are really really good, but there are also class specific voicelines, for instance, the driller's several axe puns, or the many things scout says while using his grappling hooks. This may just be an attempt at justification, but underneath all the face cosmetics, the dwarves are all visually identical, so while they do have different armor sets, having different voice actors isn't quite as necessary as a game like tf2, where all the characters are uniquely modeled (and the cast is bigger).

    But I gotta say THANK YOU for being one of the few that mentions every item of the perfomance pass being earnable after the season ends right after showcasing said pass. IF it's mentioned it's often an afterthought at the end of the vid, which many people don't see and then try to argue "but it's still a FOMO-abusing pass!!!!" when it's not. Same with most of/all of the seasonal event hats being shoved into your inventory the next time said event starts if ya missed it before.

    The pitch shift between the dwarves is there to help *highlight* their personalities, while the different voice lines themselves *Define* them. Even though it would be cool if each of the dwarves had different voices, I just love that this game ONLY has 2 VA's!! It's so fitting with the fact they all look the same.
    Cave leeches are an environmental hazard like steep drops or lava jets, meaning you have to take specific action to avoid getting murdered by them, like looking up when entering a new cave for the first time. Even without scout's flares, if you're in range of the leech you'll see the grabber thingy coming.

    the reason that procedural generation works so well in this case is because GSG made their whole combat and objective systems around it. destructible terrain, tunneling, flying, and wallcrawling bugs, mobility tools, pipelines, searching for minerals, flares/darkness, positioning. it all works because you ARE MEANT to be hindered by imperfections in the terrain and overwhelmed by bugs.

Only thing I sorta missed was going into the previous seasons a little bit more than just showing some pictures of the enemies, mission types, battle pass etc. If I was a new player, it would have been really hype to know that season 2 was epic robot fights and season 3 a plague from a meteor passing by Hoxxes. When I heard season 3 was no longer around our rivals, it got me really hyped and showing that history might show the variety of the seasons and the potential! Other than that, I love the video, especially the part where you mimic the OST and slowly fades into the actual OST!

    Audio quality's good, video's top notch all around dude!
    If the act of mining itself is boringly slow, give Driller with the EPC secondary and carve-radius upgraded Satchel Charges another shot.
    One of the T5 upgrades for the EPC (Thin Containment Field) lets you shoot the charged shot 'bubble' with anything (regular follow-up shot, friendly teammate, and more importantly: enemy projectiles) will cause it to explode, and it does carve terrain and mine minerals.
    It no longer drops them into a neat pile like it used to, but it's significantly faster in a lot of cases and personally I don't mind having to loot-gremlin my way around. Driller's already the warcrime-laden madlad so, it feels slightly more 'natural', lol

    9:06 Yeah I tend to agree with you about the voice acting, class icons, cave leeches, and mining.
    The main issue with the voices for me is not that they’re voiced by the same guy and pitch shifted but that they all say the same lines about non-class-specific things (“I need that damn minecart-on-legs. Where is it?”). If they could record more lines and make sure that each line is only said by one of the classes, it would be a massive improvement.
    Out of the three creatures that can grab you, leeches are easily the most un-fun. At least Grabbers have that high pitched screech that causes that spike of adrenaline, because you know if you react quickly enough you can stop it. When a cave leech gets you, you just sigh and wait for someone to shoot you free or revive you.
    Mining . . . I’m not sure what to do about it. Maybe there could be some more upgrades made available to tweak the pickaxe for better speed against terrain, better speed against ores, etc.

Even if every node combination was always the same (for example Egg Hunt in Sandblasted Corridors) was always the same, it would still have an insane amount of maps. But it doesn't. Good video, good audio quality. Besides a few disagreements ( some points are well founded if playing alone or with randoms , but a group of friends or high level players makes it questionable), I’d say that you might want to tone it back, or update your comparison game list. While I get that the point of the video is all time classic, not just classic, I think that it might be a bit damaging to channel growth with your statements on tf2 and left for dead. Specifically with such a time difference and how notable left for dead was, it is a “walked so you could run” type of scenario. They are at their fundamentals both horde shooters after all. And while I personally totally agree, I think it may be helpful to give things like that some “outs” so that it is phrased less extreme.

    The reason the procedural generation works so well is because it is technically only partially procedurally generated. There is a bunch of handcrafted pieces that the game modularly fits together randomly then populates with other things to make it less distinct. And if the generation is a bad roll the fact any class can dig/climb helps turn that from game breaking to a navigation challenge.
    This means they get the replayability of procedural generation with the quality of handcrafted.

    At least for mining/digging, I think the radius of material that breaks off should be a bit bigger. It seems like just enough for someone to dig a tunnel horizontally, but it makes mining diagonally a pain since it's too small for that. It would also make mining ore a bit less time consuming. Just enough to mine diagonally in a straight line at least.

    I have about 700 hours in the game and I'm not bored of it yet - It's true that I can't play alone anymore, only with others, but it doesn't change the fact that I still love this game
    my only problem is that sometimes you can't hear if an enemy is approaching - sometimes they roar, but mostly with a group
    I agree with mining minerals, because sometimes it takes a long time to mine gold, especially when you have a crater of gold
    I partially agree with cave leeches, they're annoying but they punish those who are careless (after all, anything in there can kill you, so)
    I would love to see different types of lootbugs, for example, a gold lootbug, but instead of gold it has nitra or special minerals from a given region
    I would also like to add more bosses to dreadnought - Maybe they will add new ones in season 4 because it makes me a bit sad that we only got 3 new opponents in season 3
    Also to add a new "reason" for the escort mission, because normally it's about mining Ommoran Heartstone, and they could add, I don't know, some huge Lithophage meteorite, for example, possibly they can give some events, for example, drilldozer's tracks broke or something else and they send you spare parts (although some of them would not make sense, but that's okay) - In my opinion, the most boring mission is, unfortunately, repetitive (out of all the missions, I just felt the same here)
    And most of all, new perks - I'd love to see an activation perk that allows you to drop a bag with minerals (the bag that is dropped by the player who disappears from the game and contains minerals, that he collected) such a perk would help in some places where you have to really walk to make a deposit, not some op but it makes it easier to collect minerals

      You should always hear a burrowing sound when enemies appear, so it's not really that you can't hear them coming, and for already spawned enemies in a new cave you should already be looking out for.

    DRG is a classic because it's respectful of our time. It respects that we're there to HAVE fun, not EARN our fun like most of the grindy free to play economy styled games that plague the market. The devs add meaningful new weapons that actually function differently and drastically change your gameplay. The cosmetics are a good gold sink and amusing and varied enough to be rewarding. It doesn't prey on FOMO (fear of missing out) and it doesn't trick or coerce us into playing more or paying more. It embraces its humor and personality and stays true to itself. It KNOWS it's supposed to be fun and doesn't try to bullshit us or scam us.
    That's what really sells DRG for me. It's awesome that it IS such a fully developed and well-made game on its own merits, but it's the RESPECT that wins me over.
    They do need some voice actors though. Need some proper Brits and Scots and some good ol' Texan Dwarves too.

    I've got a great idea for pickaxes and mining. ghost ship games should add another section to the pickaxe customising area and make it more of a core feature so you can give it overclocks, more and better upgrades. could be a nice feature in the next update if it happens.

    I pick this game up two weeks ago for £8 after playing the free weekend a few months ago, I can confidently say I would've gladly paid more for it. No predatory monetization from the devs is truly a shock considering modern games. I've sunk 71 hours into the game in the last two weeks. Truly a fantastic game & just a great game to hop on & play for a bit when you've got down time. Even playing solo it's still very very enjoyable.

    His weapons, grenades and utility tools allow him to pick off priority targets if the other 3 get overwhelmed by grunts.

    While I can't say mining minerals is a pain, I can say mining gold is since the gold to currency conversion feels quite meager for something that takes two hits and is abundant. I completely ignored them, until I installed the one-hit gold mod, which straight up fixed my main issue with it.

    Due to the randomness of games you can get really fun and difficult missions. I recently had a mission as driller going solo on aquarqs and had all three optional objectives spawn. not secondary. OPTIONAL. so as I did them the more bugs spawned slowly ramping up the difficulty. Eventually a dreadnaught spawned and I had to kite it around while bringing everything back to the deposit station. 10/10 favorite solo mission I've had

    Personally i don't mind the dwarves having the samr VA. They did cram so much personality for one VA session. It may sound lazy giving each dwarf a pitch. From scout's seemly young scared voice to the commanding deep voice of the driller. But you got to admit it's a clever way in solving a need. They are a few person crew after all. So using 1 Va for 4 dwarves was a inevitable choice. Also, there's the voice of mission control blaring out orders and grumbles towards the dwarves and their antics. Even gets annoyed with certain pinging rituals the community has. Which is fun banter between the miners(us) and mission control(developers). They recently added these dialogue exchanges as acknowledgement of the community at large. Even showing statistics numbers of the game is fun. Like knowing that fall damage is the leading cause of player death.
