Btw when Khabib says "you have to tap" it's to make it a habit of tapping when in pain. Tapping ensures the safety of the trainees. Your training partner _trusts you_ to tap because he doesn't know your body the way you do.
White belts make the mistake of tapping too late, when the pain is already too much or too early, when they are only experiencing discomfort.
The moment you start saying "Ow, ow!" That's when you tap.
