    The lack of new RE/100 kits of the last year or so has been really bugging me, and Bandai not even bothering to reprint the existing kits has me even more concerned. I'd love to see the RE/100 line come back, but I don't know if Bandai's planning to return to it at this point.

    It's gotten ridiculous how expensive some of these RE1/100's have gotten on the resale market. Still looking for an Efreet, Bawoo and Hamma-Hamma my self. But there is some good news on the horizon. The GP04 IS being reprinted this year, I know this because the reprint list for early fall has already been given out to shop owners and I know a few. Hopefully that means the full line will be reprinted throughout next year.

    • @InvokeZero
      @InvokeZero 3 роки тому

      That IS good news, I sold my GP04 the other year not knowing the state of Re100 because my local shop seemed to always have a couple in stock at any given time. I'm already on a waiting list with them to get one set aside, along with other RE100's, so I'll be making sure not to sell it off again.

    RE-100 line unfortunately seems to have had a lukewarm reception during its run. There were some real stinker kits with the start of the line, but Bandai definitely started to learn from their mistakes towards the end. The Zaku 2 FZ and Shokew were both great kits that were going in a promising direction.

    Look at Real Grade and even MG. Both lines are far more Premium releases than new ones for the last couple of years. Throw in, Bandai is likely considering some new line for re-releasing old MG kits instead of the Version 2.0 or 1.5 ones. Marketing and keeping those monies coming in is their concern.

    Interesting take, I always thought the "Full Mechanics" line was reserved for 1/100 kits with a complete but rudimentary inner frame while the RE/100 line was for structurally similar to HG (e.g. still using polycaps, not necessarily having a full inner frame) but with MG level surface details. But the Calamity you're right it kinda changes my perception a bit. It's a shame if Bandai totally abandons the line, I've been kinda hoping for reprint of the Gerbera but oh well.
    Another possibility is that the later offerings weren't really received all that well and Bandai just scrapped the idea of releasing obscure MS in RE/100 and just decided to rebrand with the FM line. While you're right that RE/100 might not have been envisioned as a UC only line initially, moving forward perhaps Bandai decided to treat it like the "Revive" series, limiting that label for UC only and just going forward with other labels for AU "Revived" suits.

    I wouldn't mind more popular designs in the line, just so long as they have the outer detail and remain as customizable as other REs I will be happy. Here's hoping for reprints!

    I’m no market expert, and it’s kinda hard to speculate without market data, but I agree with your theory. Maybe when Bandai created the re/100 line, they weren’t confident these kits would sell at the price they were listed so they targeted the older fan base that would pay a higher price on these kits to see if it was profitable. I’m guessing they were profitable so they shifted their focus from a niche older fan base, to a more general one by rebranding as the “Full Mechanics” line and making more popular suits that looked great but were easy and quick to build .

  • @MechaTheSpider
    @MechaTheSpider 3 роки тому +1

    There's also the theory that it was abandoned wholly when the Zaku Warrior MG came out, since it was very, very similar to an RE, from molding to joints and more, and could have just been an uptooled RE. There's also a budget constraint that we probably don't know about whether it being that they were somehow losing money on the engineering and production of them compared to cost, or just simple distribution due to the increased overseas demand.

      The thing to consider is that, to Bandai, those kits were already sold. They only care about outlets buying them, NOT whether the store sells what they get in. Now, if a retailer is sitting on kits that no one is buying, then they may cut down their orders on what they order after it, but a store sitting on tons of inventory doesn't mean that it didn't sell well to Bandai.

    The UC "exclusivity" feels more like a biproduct of the age of the series and how much supplemental material was made for it from MSV to Videogames and manga. It lets a lot of designs become eulogised as something that we'd be blessed to ever see turned into such an accessible injection kit. Never in all my years would've expected anything from MSV-Z either being made outside of b-club let alone in 1/100 or getting a massive complex suit like the Hammahamma, yet here I am with them proudly on display

  • @DZMaven

    I have noticed the lack of new RE/100 kits. Although they are still producing variants for P-Bandai, just no NEW molds.
    I do think the new Full Mechanics Calamity Gundam is basically a RE/100 in all but name so perhaps that is where the line is evolving towards. I feel I should mention the MG Zaku Warrior as many reviewers said its construction felt similar to a RE/100 and perhaps it was originally meant to be one but for whatever Bandai upgraded it to a MG.
    I do wonder if the line is dead. I would hope not but I suspect it may be. I think the choice of obscure MS may have been a bit too obscure to get good sales. I also think the general pricing of the kits wasn't doing the line any favors as for only a little more, you could get a MG kit of a more popular suit.

  • @reijigamer
    @reijigamer 3 роки тому +1

    I think Bandai planned RE/100 as an experiment from the beginning. Functionality it served the same purpose as the Limited Model line. Bandai probably thought "Let's see if we can get people to buy 1/100 kits without inner frames again. Well let's sell the most obscure MS. If people buy them then we know they would buy any 1/100 design in this quality." There isn't anything saying that Full Mechanics wouldn't incorporate UC and the rest of the AU.

    I don't think it's just the RE/100 kits that are out of stock right now. Whenever I take a look at HLJ, it's always the same few Master Grades that are available while everything else is sold out. Freedom 2.0, a few Unicorns, Wing Zero, Barbatos, Sinanju, 00 Raiser. Seems like Bandai is still having some production and distribution problems.
    I imagine that, like a lot of other markets, they've got an overabundance of customers with disposable income that they didn't spend on holidays or nights out, so they're concentrating on producing the most popular kits to meet demand for them, leaving behind the thousands of others. It's just not worth setting up the machines to produce other kits if Unicorns are still going to sell out whenever they hit shelves.

    I find the discontinuation of the Re/100 line to be pretty disappointing. I absolutely adore the lineup (I tend to favor more obscure/overlooked designs) and the Re/100 line was pretty much made for it. While I've heard that some kits of the line have questionable quality, the ones I have bought were excellent and are among my favorite kits- and I include MGs and RGs. The fact that the Shokew was P-Bandai disappointed me as I was unable to get one in time- but it had been retail I would have definitely picked one up (hopefully it gets a reissue...)
    The line being replaced with more mainstream kits (I do like the Calamity... but not as much as most of the Re/100 lineup) is just sad to me for I feel those designs will now either not be made or fall in the increasingly large roster of "Premium" kits. I find it pretty infuriating that only two kits this past year have been retail and nearly a dozen has been Premium.
    Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for premium kits- but since they're so much harder to acquire and so much more expensive I find myself not doing any custom builds with them since I fear I won't be able to get another one of them.

RE/100 was a great way of getting kits for suits I really liked and never thought we would get, but alas. Some people might attribute it to the MS choice, others the quality of the suits, but I think there could've been a lot more done with it.

    I rather liked the RE line and was disappointed that its been basically discontinued. Although seeing the FM Calamity made me hyped, it did confuse me as to why they would introduce a line that was basically the same as RE. I'm fine with either one, so long as one or both stay open and consistent.

      I've been incredibly sad that Bandai chose to go with the SDEX line rather than SDCS for the latest Sazabi and Nu releases. Makes me think they're foregoing the SDCS line altogether for SDEX like they did with the BB Senshi line which sucks.

    After experiencing the Bawoo; i kinda want to get the rest of the RE/100 kits.
    Too bad they're rare and have inflated prices...
    I'm mainly an HG collector so having some RE MS finally get HGUCs, Mk 3 & Nightingale, i can just buy those instead. The latter even does more than its RE version as it has functional sub-arms in the skirts.
    Kind of irritating that the HGUC Mk 3 is P-Bandai though... Especially since both of its pre-tools, Seltsam & Tertium, were retail releases.
    The Zaku Kai and Efreeet Custom have HGUCs already. The former made years ago, before even the Unicorn, and the latter as a P-Bandai release some time around the release of its RE counterpart. Too bad the HGUC was pretty sicker heavy...
    The Dijeh got an HGUC too which i'm thankful for as it helped get nearer to a complete HGUC Zeta MS collection. All that's missing are the two Baund Docs that've been released/announced, and the Bolinoak Sammahn, Hizack Custom & Psycho Mk 2. The Psycho 2 has been appearing regularly in various side anime like the Build anthology and the current SD series so maybe its HGUC kit is on the horizon...
    The other RE kits: GP04 Gerbera, Hamma Hamma, Guncannon Detector, Vigna Ghina, Gun-EZ, Vigna Ghina II & Shokew, would be nice to see in HGUC somewhere down the line.
    Half the reason i want those RE kits is BECAUSE they have no HGUC kits so the REs are the only model kits of them available. That's partly the reason i have some of the Master Grades i own.

    HG isn't better quality than no grade. Except the very old HG (UC timeline but not marketed as HGUC at that time) that have similar scale no grade released earlier, HG is the new "no grade" / default grade of the UC timeline product line (and also say compare vanilla HGUC quality to RXF91 to no grade vanilla gundam seed 1/144, despite HG Seed did somehow "a bit" better ), and it is almost 99.9% focus on 1/144 too, while it differentiate the product line with MG, which is bigger (1/100) and more detail as the new de facto "HG".
    The start of Re/100 is they want to make HG but in 1/100 scale. Is it "inferior" than HG? No. Sometimes due to size it may sightly better in color separation piece.
    The product line stop is because the whole gunpla market thing. Same as almost no MG release, but a lot of robot spirits releases.
