8 Ways to Eat Instant Noodles | Around the World

- Опубліковано 18 тра 2024
- Do you boil your favorite instant noodles and simply dump them into a bowl? If so, it’s time to elevate your approach. In the latest episode of “Around the World,” Great Big Story senior producer Beryl Shereshewsky sources eight instant noodle recipes from eight countries, including Indonesia, Trinidad and Tobago and Nepal, and makes them all in her New York City kitchen. From pancakes with melted cheese on top to a hot, spicy soup enhanced with the crunch of crispy chicken skin, instant noodles can be the basis for truly delicious dishes. (And one of the recipes doesn’t even require any cooking!)
India
Maggi Noodles
Recipe from Bawa Singh
1. Take a large frying pan (a wok or a kadhai). Add a little bit of oil.
2. Sauté chopped onions, tomatoes and paneer (fresh cheese). Add salt and cover with a lid.
3. After vegetables have become soft, add two pack of Maggi noodles, the flavor packet, and water as per packet instructions. Stir and let cook until the noodles become soft and the water turns into the consistency of soup.
Trinidad and Tobago
Top Ramen
Recipe from MTY
1. Remove the skin of a spicy KFC chicken breast and toast at 350 degrees for 10 minutes
2. Strip the chicken breast and add to a pot. Add the flavor packet and a bowl of lukewarm water into the pot. Bring to a boil.
3. Add pak choi stems and boil for 2 minutes. Turn off burner and add to the bowl. Crumble chicken breast skin over the noodles before serving.
Singapore
Shin Ramyun
Recipe from Hannah Castillo
1. Bring milk (3/4 of recommended volume of water recommended on the packet) to a simmer. Add noodles.
2. Once the noodles are almost cooked, add the flavor packet, dried vegetables and mozzarella cheese. Mix until the cheese is melted.
3. Make a well in the middle of the noodles and crack an egg. Cover and let cook until the egg whites are slightly firm and yolk is still runny. Garnish with chives and chili flakes before serving.
Nigeria
Indomie fried noodles
Recipe from Shadrack Akinkunmi
1. Chop onions, tomatoes, bell pepper and sauté in a frying pan. Add noodles and water, per packet instructions and cook until al dente.
2. If you would like, crack an egg on top.
Nepal
Wai Wai
Recipe from Amelie Dahal @aaduhlean
1. Crush the raw noodles in the packet. Chop onions, tomatoes, ginger. Mix in a bowl with lime, chili, and add the crushed noodles. Add the flavoring packet.
Italy
Saikebon
Recipe from Adriana Trancic @adriana_trancic
1. Cook the noodles and drain out the water. Mix in a spoonful of spreadable cheese and the flavor packet.
2. When the noodles are creamy, add a can of tuna without oil, and add slices of avocado and tomato on top. Finish with soy sauce.
Indonesia
Indomie Goreng
Recipe from Nisa Rumaisha @adenn_
1. Cook two packets of noodles, rinse with cold water and mix in all the seasonings in a bowl. Add chopped onions and scallions. Crack 2-3 eggs and mix in.
2. Add 3 tbsp all-purpose flour-keep adding until the consistency is that of pancake batter. Add 1 tsp salt, pepper and chicken stock powder.
3. Pour small amounts of the noodle batter onto a hot pan with oil, and fry the way you would make bite-sized pancakes.
4. Garnish with thinly sliced chilies.
5. Alternatively, fill the entire pan with the batter, fry and cook both sides, and melt cheese on top to create a cheesy, noodle pizza.
Brasil
Nissin Turma da Mônica
Recipe from Isabela Lobato
1. Cook the noddles and drain most of the water. Add the seasoning packet and mix with cream cheese (requeijão).

I used to think that way too... Now I prepare 1 and a half packet... And its sorted. 😂 (not actually the half though, I buy a 70gm one and a 35 gm one and cook it together).

@John Wick Mr Worldwide 😎
I'm Indonesian. There are many ways to serve noodle here that at least I've tried or ever seen.
1) Eating it raw:
• hit the instant noodle to crush it while still in the package
• open instant noodle package from one side
• add the seasoning
2) mix it with fried rice or what we call as "Magelangan":
• fry some thinly chopped shallot then drain it.
• boil the noodle separately then drain it
• fry some chilli, garlic, and shallot with just a little amount of oil. You can chopped it with knife or pound it with mortar.
• add some egg.
• Add the rice, then mix them. Leftover rice and dry rice is better than new and moist rice.
• add the noodle and the seasonings, then mix them.
• add some salt, sweet ketchup, and msg or stock powder. You can also add chilli flake to increase the spicyness.
• add some chopped spring onion
• serve it with fried shallot on top of it
3) lika a vegetable and tofu soup:
• boil the noodle then add the seasonings.
• add some egg and thinly chopped tofu. Better to use tofu that have skin, we call it "tahu kulit"
• add some chopped cabbage or bok choy and chopped chilli
• add some chopped onion spring
• serve it better with fried thinly chopped shallot or "bawang goreng"
4) make it into what we call as "martabak" or "noodle omelett":
• boil the noodle then drain it
• mix the noodle with egg, the seasonings, chopped chilli, and chopped sausage or chopped meatball or corned beef. You can add some vegetable, but don't add it too much.
• fry it in a pan with a little bit of oil
• eat it with tomato sauce. You can also use mayo instead.
5) eat it with raw egg:
• boil the noodle then drain it
• add the seasonings and raw egg, then mix it.
6) trying to copy as identic as the suggested serving cover image on the package.
This one, you have to cook based on which noodle taste you cook.
Sorry that I'm late, but hope my recipe can add your noodle recipe collections.

Indomie is so so tasty , you guys are lucky.
We have the raw one in Malaysia! 😂Lol, but I'm not sure other countries in ASEAN has this? 😂It's called Mamee Monster which is a snack that is made of Maggie noodles. The history of this snack is in the 90's century the "padang getah" in malay which translated as rubber farm, the workers have no time for breakfast because they need to wake up before sunrise to collect the liquid from the tree which then use by the factory to make rubber products. So one of the workers raw eat the Maggie noodles without seasoning 😂the other workers then start follow the same way of eating and then spread through the whole factory workers. One day when the boss of the factory is patrolling the workers, he found out one of them eating Maggie raw. So he then told one of his friend's son who wanted to be an entrepreneur, then they start investigate to make the product. The name Mamee monster is came from the son that who became a entrepreneur who went follow the father to patrol the workers. He found a boy who is one of the worker's son and ask him what will he name the product, but the kid don't understand, he then saw the kid's drawing that it's a furry blue monster. It ends up "mamee" is the spelling of mummy in Chinese, which other races besides Chinese can pronounce this, and the "furry blue monster" is then became the mascot of the product😃
Lol😂 I never thought i can write this long but nevermind, sharing is caring✨
Ps. I like to eat Mamee with Maggie noodles, it's very delicious! And also FYI Mamee is just a Maggie noodle but is hardened and just like written in this comment, you need to crunch it before eating😆 very satisfiable process😄

That was so cool. Thank you. I can't wait to try these and I just really loved how much fun you were having and how you were clearly enjoying the different recipes.
For Indians,
My maggi recipe has so many ingredients y'all would call it blasphemy
I still love it though so just in case one of you tries it:
I take half an onion, half a tomato and a green chilli and chop them all very finely.
I add about half a teaspoon of sugar (flavour enhancer, you cannot taste it at all, skip it if you hate the idea though)
A pinch of salt and a little bit of garam masala(also optional, u can't really taste it)
Cook the veggies for about 5-10 minutes, until the tomatoes break down a little.
Then I add a teaspoon of MSG(also known as ajinomoto or china salt) then a teaspoon of soy sauce and the tastemaker. Skip the initial pinch of salt if you're sensitive to salt.
And that's it.
I know it seems like a lot of extra ingredients, but it tastes sooooo good.

@Farfar Villanueva there's absolutely no r/woosh here. You can't be happy by being happy, without being happy.
You must be doing a handstand while watching it😎

A wise man once said...
"I eat the hard noodles, drink the boiling water and snort the favoring"
such beautiful words 😢🤧
I hope that wise man is still alive
Allow me to correct your last sentence :
"such beautiful LAST words"
We shall never see his like again.
Died from sneezing after snorting seasoning packet
AHAHAHAHH I LIKE THAT MAN
ISSSSSSSSS BORIS
Great job. With the Nigerian one, I’m pretty sure they meant a different indomie. You can find it at the international stores. Also, most people use habanero or other pepper not so much bell pepper.
Thank you for trying all these recipe 😩

My brain: That one friend of mine
Me: that one friend of mine who don't like runny yolks but loves to swallow.

Recepie from US/Mexico: 1 chicken ramen soup, 1 v8 can, 2 eggs, 2 ham slices, 1 cup of frozen Normandy vegetables, salt and pepper, half a slice of a key lime, and some drops of Louisiana hot sauce. Soft or hard boil the eggs peel them and cut them halve ways. Cook the ramen normal but add the cup of frozen vegetables to cook them with the ramen then drain about halve of the water. But them on the bowl . Roll the 2 or 1 slices of Ham and cut them to strips and add them to the bowl then add the v8 juice and mix. Squirt the lime juice on it and hot sauce drops if u like, add the egg halves on top and finish with a dash of black pepper and salt . Enjoy.✌️

maggie with ghee and paneer. no maggie lover has ever tried that in India.
I have, I've cooked Maggie with chicken, paneer, a lot of Vegetables, cooked it in ghee and added butter in top. Have tried Schezwan sauce ginger garlic more chillies with it. I rarely eat plain noodles. Try it, it's good.

I just made the recipie from Singapore. WHERE HAS THIS RAMEN RECIPIE BEEN MY WHOLE LIFE. It was amazing, especially adding the runny egg. Another thing I did was add brocolli, for a touch of veggies. I am eager to try out Italy next.
I tried the Singapore and it tasted ok but gave me super bad diarrhoea 😭😭😭
Indonesians: cook two packages and add rice if you're still not full.
Most indonesians’ stomach are made of rubber. Two packed noodles + rice + boiled potatoes + breads + roasted corns
