    normal people's thought process with less than 3 seconds on the clock: holy crap, I just need to move (heart racing)
    Jerry's thought process with less than 3 seconds: hmm, what should I do? maybe move here? ehh, I'll just do this. bam checkmate! lol

    The difference between you and others chess youtubers, is that you always try to give some logical sense to your moves, even from the opening instead of applying just theorie because it's theorie and memorize lines and stuff, thanks Jerry!

      ChessNetwork With ~ 1 minute to go, you invariably start complaining about how much time you’ve burnt: Thereafter, just as invariably, you start moving in endgame configurations so fast it makes everyone’s head spin - including your opponent’s, and you pickup the point. I’ve seen you do this even in games with no increment.😮

    Its really nice to hear a nm talk through the moves. It teaches me a lot more than just watching a game without hearing the thought process of the player.

    Well I guess this will satisfy the haters that say he doesn't play against players at his level. It was a silly argument to begin with.. Good win Jerry! It was fortunate that you still had a lot of fire power on the board when you were low on time.

    @39:39 black had a draw with other king moves. had he played Kh6 would have been equal. The biggest blunder was Kg6 opening up to checks, not a good idea in queen and rook endings where king exposure is taken advantage of by the opposing queen, and Jerry found Qc4 which is the only move which exploits black's king position (in time trouble!)

    Nice video as always! I'm always happy to see you've posted a new one. When I see that the video is a 1-minute tournament, I just pick 2 beers from the fridge and some snacks and enjoy the 30 minutes of fun. The single games are very instructive as well. Just one question: Why it must be a nail biter every time? And how do you manage to stay cool about it? Amazing. Keep it going and be aware that I just put some beers in the fridge, so it may be a time for some cube fanatics :)

  • @davidcady6315
    @davidcady6315 4 роки тому +1

    I'd try 25.Nd4 with a threat of 26.Nc6, as the black bishop on e6 either gets exchanged (eventually winning a pawn on b5) or black gets into a nasty fork.. Only one of the "let me think for 30 secs" variants, of course.
    EDIT: ..and as soon as I wrote it, Jerry said it :-)

    Jerry, I know it’s been awhile since you made this vid, but here in the future, late spring 2019, CLOWNS 🤡 are very fashionable (en tous sense).
    Ergo, a suggestion to enhance your vids would be to stop every once in awhile in your aftergame analyses, look at an idle piece on the losing side, and do that thing where you say, almost bitterly, “Look at this clown. What’s he doin?” This is especially effective when you have not personally participated in the game.
    Other suggestions include regular reprises of your “My Rooks are pigs!” and “My Knight’s a beast!”

  • @sswarnendu

    As usual great video Jerry! and a nice game too....... but just a question.... u did not even consider Nxg5 knight sac after black played g5 and played Nd4 ( i forgot the move number )... it looked to me ( OTB thoughts) that after Nxg5 fxg5 Qxg5+ white's attack is quite strong.... Can u please explain if possible why u deterred from such a path? is it because of the rook on a7 covering the 7th rank ( possibly appear on g7 guarding his king and X-raying/pinning g2 against the king ) ?

    On move 14, if you were to move your bishop back to a6 just to get the bishop back to the back rank before moving to d3, would this be better, causing a reverse in his development prior to your *possibly losing a tempo? What are your thoughts?

    • @ChessNetwork
      @ChessNetwork  9 років тому +4

      Good question... it's a question I thought about as well, but only after recording and doing the editing for upload. Generally I agree that it'd be nice to have the bishop be underdeveloped prior to some retreat to d3. I'm not sure about some of the specifics though...it may end up transposing to the same position after a5 Qe2 e6 de Bc8xe/Bd7xe. Not much difference in that case. :) Maybe Bg5 would be better though instead of Qe2. Again, good question.

    What does it mean to advance, "with tempo?"

    • @grantcivyt
      @grantcivyt 7 років тому

      I believe you're referring to the time 8:40 or so in the video where Jerry is talking about his hesitation with moving his bishop back. He comments that pawn to c4 comes "with tempo." That's because the pawn will advance with an attack on the bishop, and the bishop is likely to retreat again to c2 or b1. The moves Bc2 and Bb1 are very defensive moves for white, so they're largely wasted. The new position would have black with a further advanced pawn, white with a poorly placed bishop that's also crowding its own pieces, and to top things off, it's black's move again! That's why the move c4 comes "with tempo," because it's as if black gained an extra move.
      Gaining a tempo means gaining a move. It's a subtle concept that's taken me a long time to understand, and I'm only now beginning to appreciate it. Hope this helps.

      The black queen checks the white king so he has to block with the rook (blocking with pawns leads to losing material). So there was unfortunately no mate @31:26.
