Benoni Defense - Standard chess #30

  • I played a standard chess game as black with time controls set at 15 minutes with a 2 second increment. The opening played was the Benoni Defense, King's Pawn Line. White obtains a space advantage, inherent with black's choice of the Benoni Defense. Typically white should keep more minor pieces on board, but chooses to trade light-squared bishops and have the f-pawn contribute to white's central pawn presence. Black must always be mindful of white's e5 break and seek counterplay on the queen's wing, where black has a 3 vs 2 pawn majority.

    Bb5+ actually enters the sharpest line in the benoni and probably gives the best chances for white (taminov variation) but he did get the move order wrong... He had to play f4 first den bb5+

      I expected Jerry to know this considering it is the main line of the Benoni but I don't think he's studied the opening too extensively considering he recaptured on d7 with the wrong knight. I guess he just likes to try different openings to bring variety to the viewers.

      Mate in 1 should be seeable even with only 1 minute left. People play whole chess games without serious blunders in 1 min lol

      @davidcady6315 4 роки тому

      @@numchies8172Jerry mentioned he got the threat, just played it out differently.. However, even if he didn't see it, consider, that even the chess giants suffer from chess-blindness, occasionally - the best example I can think of was Karpov (white) vs some guy (whose name I don't recall), where Karpov blundered his queen in some 15 moves. I think it was a blindfolded game, though.. ;-)

    at 26:27 couldn't you have pushed the pawn to e4 anyway? in the event of knight takes pawn rook takes knight and the queen cant recapture because of checkmate on f2.

    Hi Jerry and everybody, I'm an amateur chess player so I'm not really an expert. I'm wondering why you were surprised by them playing 8.Bxd7 trading their light square bishop, since they have a fixed pawn on light square. So isn't basically their bad bishop trading for your good bishop? Thanks for any answer.

    I live the Benoni. Probably not objectively the beat opening, but at the 1800 to 2000 level on chess.com (where I'm at) it leads to great games. My fav was one where white didn't play a4 after a6. That doesn't work out nicely for him, pretty much ever.

    Hello Jerry, in my humble opinion you are doing great job and just keep going i think you are fun and educative!I have one question for you,well better say i need your help I hope you will answer so lets get on to it.Well I were semi-profesional player but it have some times i gave up on chess beacuse of some circumstances but now i wanna get back there but before i do, i need a lot of practice i have a lot of stuffs to catch up.So to sum this up I am attacking player i fall in love in agressive chess or better to say open chess with a lot of tactical maneuveres so i did practice tactics a lot and i am good at it i think, but my biggest problem in chess were openings.As white mostly time i played e4 and scotch game but on tournaments nobody wanted to go in Scotch game so basicaly i played their openings like Caro-Kan,French,Sicilan and others...I was young there and thought d4 is like positional type of game and i am person who loves to attack so thought that wasnt for me but eventually i saw that games from d4 can be transferd to some maybe most attacking positions in chess! So now i wanna make repertoire of openings that i would play! My rating was around 1750 but my friend who is now 2200+ said back there "Your rating is below CM but you really play like one" so Jerry i am planning to get that tittle as well as you i am self taught i buyed some books from what i can learn openings and other stuffs but i really want your help on this! So without any futher delaying i need openings that are offensive or positional with posibility to transfer in offensive! I decided some oppenings that i will be playing like for black on e4 i will play Sicilan Defense:Najdorf and Dragon variationts i know they are big but i really like both of them! As white i can play e4- Scotch game.But i need as white oppening on d4 and as black oppening against d4 these two are my main issues! If you have like straight line for example: Scilian defense:Dragon variation-Yugoslavia attack that would be awesome,but anyway you gonna help me a lot! I hope you answer, Thanks in advance you are best just keep going! :D
    PS:sorry for long comment and for my english i know its not the best!!

      One approach is to observe what type of openings dynamic players and strategic players are playing.
      A couple dynamic players are Veselin Topalov and Garry Kasparov.
      A couple creative players are Baadur Jobava and Richard Rapport.
      A couple strategic players are Gata Kamsky and Anatoly Karpov.

    • @shikamarunara6244
      @shikamarunara6244 8 років тому

      So you saying that for example i watch kasparov and topalov and their variations and if i like it i start study their games and lines and learn how they deal with problems at that variatons and get ideas and stuffs like that? Am i right?

    • @ChessNetwork
      @ChessNetwork  8 років тому

      It may prove a decent guide to help you find openings/variations you find interesting. Help give you ideas for what to play. Note I'm not big on the study of openings. Nevertheless I hope this helps some.

      I suggest buying a good book. I recently bought how to Recess your chess 4th edition by IM Jeremy Silman. I've already increased my rating by about 100 and I'm only finished the first chapter. Amateur to IM I hear is also a good choice.

      Do you remember Carlsen's big blunder in a rapid game? I forgot the tournament but it was against Anand in an end game. The commentators were all over him and you could see Carlsen's face after he realized it. I thought this was sort of relevant because it was not very difficult to see the blunder.

    • @ZincAddict
      @ZincAddict 8 років тому

      I had not seen it, but after googling it, I would've probably blundered as well (I'm that bad).
      So you could say I'm worst at chess than Carlsen, but better than Jerry :-D

    Why didn't he consider Bxd7? Isn't it good to trade white's bad bishop for black's good bishop?

    • @Azbazzer
      @Azbazzer 7 років тому

      It's blacks bad bishop

    • @DarshanSenTheComposer
      @DarshanSenTheComposer 7 років тому

      Azbazzer white's central pawns r on light squares and his bishop is light squared, so it's a bad bishop for white. Black's central pawns r Dark squared and his bishop was light squared, so it's a good bishop for black, fair enough?

    • @michaelsole5322
      @michaelsole5322 7 років тому

      In the Benoni, the LSB for Black often does not have a good square and black tries to swap it off for White's Knight on f3. The dark squared bishop is great for Black as it looks over a key diagonal and targets the b2 pawn and helps with the queenside play for Black

      One does not need to look too far to see a recent example of what hate precipitates. I can't get the image of 5-year-old Omran Daqneesh out of my head. His story/that event makes me cry both inwardly and outwardly, yet makes me try harder to play a bigger part as a positive in this world. Try to find what it is you are passionate about and pursue it.
