I've owned two of these lenses. They are so sharp and built like a tank. It works like my 24-70 f/2.8 on my D500. I bought both of them on eBay and was happy with both of them.
I also own this particular lens and it's amazing Pro lens. No way for me to sell it. I just appreciate all these quality that you mentioned in your video ! Absolutely agree with you.
I got mine for £750 (approx $969 US) pre-owned but in "as new" condition with a six-month guarantee from my local camera shop.....its the best lens I've ever owned and it works perfectly with my Nikon D500.
Very good review ! Picked up a used copy myself about a year and half ago for about $700.00. The filter lip cracked so I sent to to Nikon for repairs.....$400.00 later to include re-calibration and it's one of my favorite lens. Very sharp and great contrast and as you said, very well built. I too use mine on my D7000 and love it. I'm sure there's a 3rd party lens which may be comparable as far as image quality is concerned, but no one will top the build of this lens. Too bad it's not VR, but people shouldn't let that stop them from purchasing this lens if you shoot DX.
@coryreviews It's all good Cory. I have decided to hold back myself from getting a new 17-55mm, currently I'm hunting for a used 17-55mm. Like what you said in the review, it is probably one of the sharpest lens that we can get in the DX class, and I agree that it's not quite worth it for a new lens as it depreciates in value substantially the moment we sell it as used. Thanks to you, I still have both my 35mm 1.8G and I was relieved. Hehe
How is the lens at 17-24mm @ F8-F11? I'm sure I've read something about the corners not being sharp at the lower zoom range a while back on my research. Have you had any experiences with lack of corner sharpness through those ranges?
Have you ever compared this lens to other prime lenses like the 35mm 1.8G or 50mm 1.8G? Currently I'm contemplating whether if I should fork out the extra money to trade in my 35mm 1.8G and 18-105mm for a new 17-55mm . Do you reckon it's worth it? I don't really mind if it's used or new, but I would like to know what's your view about the image quality and its daily use with regard to mid range zoom vs fixed focal length.
I had a hard time to spend that much too. Now I wish I had not waited so long, after buying the consumer grade ones that did not hold up nor give the results of this fabulous lens.
I had this lens for 4 years on my D50 now i really love it on my D7100. Also i dont use filters the hood is protecting it, Its a reliable lens wich survives camera bodys. Indeed its not abouts sharpness specs.
For me this lens was trash for sharpness at f2.8 set on tripod testing print black and white. Had to go to f5 to get decent sharpness. Maybe I bought a lemon off ebay or this lens is trash at f 2.8 on my test. Someone please "show me" I am wrong so I can buy a good one but I am afraid. Fool me once I can recover. Fool me twice and then I am the fool.

Good video on a lens I'm interested in. Not enough reviews like this.

@@MMPAspergerianI’ve changed to the 24-70mm VR and it performs well. Not going mirrorless anytime soon. Still love the DSLR!
