  • It was a pleasure to have the Street Triple RS on loan from Triumph for a while. During that time I put a few thousand miles on it and got a few opinions. Here is what I thought of the bike after using it as my daily rider!

I have an MT09 and recently rode the street triple. Street Triple quality and rideability superior in every respect IMO. My friend who also has an MT09 and rode the street triple had the same opinion and is actually trading his mt09 for a street triple this week.

    • @mattmt0918
      @mattmt0918 5 років тому

Cris Cutter I own a 2018 MT09 (redesign) and have ridden the speed triple. To me, the rideability (throttle, input etc) is the same. The triumph feels lighter and a little more “centered”. I got off of it feeling good about saving 3-4 thousand dollars for a bit more bang for my buck. So, the opposite of your experience. Just throwing that out there for anyone checking out your comment. You may be comparing the original MT09 which was a bit less.. refined. Haha

I'm just 21 (yes i think that's young), and I've ridden R1,CBR1000RRR-SP, ZH2, Ducati Panigale V4, Daytona 675r, R6, Ninja ZX 10, ninja Zx6, Ninja 300, RE 350,Himalayan,650s, t100, and speed triple, i had owned a R1, but sold it for other reasons and investments, and got a cycle instead of the bike, and now i am looking forward to getting a Trident 660 , or the Triumph Speed triple, cuz even after riding all i have ridden, ( even been to track a few times) is that no matter what, 200hp is not needed , and all these bikes are great, these 200hp r1s , Panigales, e.t.c, are pretty useless from ergonomics, useless low end, in the street what i suggest is the street triple, or the speed triple .
      Cuz :
Such a beautiful sound , the exhaust sound changes as the rev increases , from sophisticated in the low to the roaring in the high ,
Mechanically (a mechanical engineer here) , and as a bike enthusiast, 3 Cyls are the best when it comes to power delivery, low end torque + top end rush , and due to triumphs T-plane crankshaft (perfect secondary balance) this thing revs very high for a engine that size , and reaches redline quicker than any I4...
I've plenty experience, owned an R1 (sold last year and got a cycle), r6, zx 10r, the busa, Zh2, RSV4, panigale, cbr 1000, and z900 , daytona 675, street triple 675RS,
(owned all these for a while and traded these ) RE bikes, and what not , but i find three cyls the best among inline 4s and 2s (Vs are better ). (Except some radicals i4s ).
After riding the R1 ( snappy af) , it teaches a lot, and now I'm basically not scared of any bike , i can ride any other bike fearlessly because of the teachings i got from the R1 , and after riding a long time in an R1 , always moving fast even in the streets , i eventually got bored, cuz of the power delivery, it's pretty bad , that's why even though i sold it , i was crying my way home back....
Cuz i had to help buy a house, but , now I'm looking to buying a Trident 660, or a GT 650. For more relaxed riding, cuz i always rode balls to the walls with the R1 , and now i wanna go safe.

I have hard time watching videos about the Street Triple. They make me want another one. I bought one in 09 and just loved it. It was the best bike that I have ever had. My 09 developed several oil leaks and that was the only reason I got rid of it. At 65, I still want another one but my garage is way to full of bikes now. Too many bikes and not enough time.I know, you only live once.

Regular typical annual service intervals (oil essentially) and a 12,000 mile major service ($800~). Triumphs have a great track record for reliability and being user friendly. I've been on quite a few!

Most bikes are pretty reasonable to maintain, as long as you don't abuse them and keep the shiny side up...and don't puncture 3 tires in a year and a half like I did. It's things like that that start making the costs add up

One great trick for the shaky mirrors is to flip them down and angle them enough so your little and ring finger can just touch it. When shaky you just put those fingers on the back of the mirrors. Very intuitive and effective. perfect mirror image without changing hand position.

I totally agree with him saying that this bike shits on sportbikes on daily type of riding! I have a Ducati 1098 and I’m looking at getting a sport naked cause it’s more fun 95% of the time. Sportbike is mainly fun on sporty canyon runs & race tracks.

Been riding the Street Triple RS for a while and love it so far.. I've had some issues with the gearbox though and I'm curious to know if any of you experienced this as well.. It usually happens when I downshift multiple times in short succession and what happens is that the gearbox get's stuck between gears. The easiest fix is to pull the clutch halfway, rev slightly and shift gear again and then it gets back into place. It doesn't happen all the time, (3-5 times during a 100 miles) but it's annoying when it does!

Try mixing half Valvoline synthetic motorcycle oil and half Valvoline regular motorcycle oil. A great looking motorcycle- the little fairing above the bug-eye headlights makes them look better and an added small windshield (I like the National brand) would look better. However, a MT-07 or more comfortable Tracer 900GT might be more reliable and cost effective.

I will add to Chase's comments about city riding. The bike's power doesn't really kick until higher in the rev range, but it still has PLENTY of power down low, especially in the lower gears. Putting it in sport mode definitely gives a much more jerky throttle response; I typically keep it in street mode when I'm riding around the city and sport mode when I'm riding in the twisties. You can also turn off the traction control in the "rider" mode, so if you want to be a hooligan and do wheelies, you can turn TC off and give the bike its full grunt.

I'd be interested in seeing your reaction to the R since it's supposed to have a unique cam compared to the other models in the range in addition to having a more torque-biased engine map. And with your comments about the modes... would the R be the Goldilocks of the range?
Obviously that's my expectation since that's the one I've chosen to get, but I'd be interested to see what someone who's had the RS thinks.

Im currently planning on my next bike, moving from an S2R 800 Ducati. Really considering a Street or Speed triple from around 2010. My concern about the Speed is the weight. Its bloody heavy at 218 kg. I like a more flickable bike and im not a very large rider. On the other hand, the extra power and torque on the Speed vs the Street is also tempting. DECISIONS!

You started talking about using the bike around the city... I was really hoping to hear your thoughts about the suspension. When the bike launched, a lot of the journalists said the ride was too rough for daily use, and that the R would likely make the better commuter. I have a 2009 R, and after adjusting the suspension to a softer setting, daily commuting is totally manageable. Did you get there with the RS?

I test rode a STS a few days back as the dealer in my city didnt have a RS test bike. The S model is also quite powerful and gives good power in low to mid rev ranges. The nissin were just spot on so I'm wondering how the brembo is gona be.
Bike is quite agile compared to the Monster 821 i tried a few days before. (Although love the way the monster looks over the RS, to be honest).
Really excited to get my hands on the RS and then probably go for it.
Interested to know the engine heat as the S was warming my thighs quite a bit inside the city so wondering how the RS would fare in that particular area?

Sorry for the previous cut/paste error post. Hi Chase. Thanks a lot for your real-world and in-depth reviews. You’re a great resource in addition to the online cycle mag reviews that typically focus on just the positive aspects of bikes (manufacturer $$$). I’d appreciate your input and the youtubers input on my dilemma. I rode my first track day last summer on my CBR500R and loved the experience! I plan on riding several track days this year but I’m thinking about trading in my CBR for either a 2018 CBR600RR or the 2018 STR RS. For now, the new bike will be my only bike for commuting, fun and the track. I have about 15 years riding experience with Yamaha and Harley big cruisers as well as a Harley Nightster 1200. I initially was targeting the trading up to the 2018 CBR600RR but have long been interested in the RS and I guess my gut is now leaning to the RS. Your thoughts? Appreciate anyone’s inputs. Thanks and ride safe!

Hi Chase, I also have a 765 RS and noticed the wind issue at highway speeds
What is ur opinion on those windscreen extension plastic add-on that triumph make as an accessory.
    Heard mix things
That some people say they work and others say they don’t.
I also agree about long distance riding with Triumph should have an accessory or aftermarket option for equipping the bike with cruise control..
Do you know of any good branded cruise controls that can be fitted?

    • @tanmayp1692

How does the suspension hold up on broken roads?

    • @cueballB
      @cueballB 6 років тому

It's adjustable and top of the line. If the suspension of the RS isn't satisfactory, you'd probably have to buy an adventure bike like the BMW 1200 RS, because that's the only kind of bike that can handle worse roads than the RS suspension and every +12000 dollar bike for that matter.
