Recently it struck me how in every town and city here in The Netherlands there's a church right in the center and it's always the most beautiful building in the city. Yet to think that nowadays people will ignore that our country was build upon Christianity.
Also I've noticed that churches have a triangular rooftop, is that as to point towards heaven?

Jonathan, I would like an edited version (of your replies) because your responses resonate deeply with my heart and the other artists respond at a cerebral level...it almost felt like I had to ride
    up to listen to them...
    down for your rejoinders...
first time for me to not finish a UA-cam you posted;)

We can still learn from the other two artists on the panel. I think perhaps they sound more cerebral because they have a more obvious motivation behind their art, but (at least I can tell that) they still have that creative impulse wanting to describe the world as they see it before they try to explain it. I think that's a tension felt by so many artists today across all media, the tension between making something that is genuinely yours vs making something that belongs to an idea that is not yours, or the tension between making icons and making idols.

@@thingsweneverdid3782 they are a sign of the times. I think we learn much if we learn why their art is that way. They still have the creative impulse of the artist, but they submit it to ideology.

Some feelings about art, that I could not put into words, you managed to articulate and clarify for me. Thank you.

There is exactly one person of faith on this panel. And two propagandists.

Pageau, it is clear you are on another level of understanding of every topic discussed. I’m sure everyone who was present and listening on UA-cam can see that.

Half way in i had to stop. Having her equate her sexual preference-life style with Jonathan's Faith, claiming the universe gave her that path sort of implying it has the same worth as what Jonathan had just shared, was a total vibe killer to me. Just ape talk at that point.

One correction needed in the description: "It was held September 29th, 2019."
I may be trying to catch up with your ideas, but I'd be surprised if your conversations were being beamed in from the future. :P

Yes, I confused the date of the event with when I received the recording.

"Church should be more beautiful than your house." Thank you for that.
I am totally broke but I would really like help getting my head around the icon of St. Stephen, why is it that he holds a thurible and that one of the men stoning him is holding their clothing off the ground while holding a stone? And then, why is St. Stephen sometimes with St. Christopher?

Is that Fr. Silouan’s original drawing for the icon St. Mamas on the wall next to your desk?

I have a suggestion, though I'm probably way off the mark. I expect its refers to the human-God relationship. Just as the dog is, in the popular expression, "man's best friend", so we are, if you like, God's best friend (I have called you friends, John 15:15). We are God's little half-dust half-spirit domesticated creatures, being , like other domesticated animals, moulded into a relationship with the Higher-Life form for the purposes of mutual service (and indeed affection). Dog is also God spelt backwards: both words reflectively mirror-image one another, just as humankind is made to reflect the divine, being made in His Image.

Jonathan - have you seen Bandersnatch? It's deeply spiritual and symbolic and could use your review.
