      52AD According to tradition. St Thomas Christians of Kerala was a part of the Church of the East till the church got divided. For a couple of centuries we were on our on till the arrival of the Portughese. We were made to join the Catholic Church and we faced a lot of persecutions as a result of it. As a result of which many in the church left catholic church to join the Antiocean church. Now St THomas Christians of Kerala are Divided between Catholic, Jacobite and Assyirian.

    Catholicism is the largest Christian denomination in Sri Lanka, only due to the effort of St. Joseph Vaz , a priest from Goa. It is also said that Fr. Joichim Gonsalvez, the second priest from Goa, formed the religious terminology we still use as Sinhala Catholics. Goanese priests served our country for nearly 200 years. Many of the Syrian Christian churches converted to Catholicism under duress and threats of excommunication. And the Vatican is aware that Syrian Christian community existed 300 years from 1st century before Christianity became the official religion in Roman Empire.

    Okay there's one correction. Catholicism in India can't be traced back to arrival of St. Thomas in India in AD 52.
    The Church that was established here had relations with Assyrian Church of East and from the 4th Century after the arrival of Thomas of Cana started blending in the East Syrian liturgy into their worship.
    Catholicism first came to India when Portuguese under Vasco da Gama started colonizing India.
    And if you have any doubts the name of the two major Catholic denominations in India start with word Syro, i.e., Syro-Malabar Church, which follows the East Syrian Liturgy and represents the Church which accepted Catholicism and broke away from the old church when Portuguese came and the Syro Malankara Church, which follows the West Syrian Liturgy and represents the faction of Malankara Orthodox Church from which they broke ranks and accepted Catholicism in 20th Century.

    • @valeshmathias
      @valeshmathias 3 місяці тому +3

      The Assyrian Church of the East was in communion with Rome in the first 4 centuries. And even though they were catered by the Assyrian bishops, the split with Rome wasn't official for the Church in India.

Syro-malabar Church though not named till 19th century had been in Communion even before Portuguese. We known as "Nasrani Christians" Check out Bishop Placid J Podipara book "The Thomas Christians."
      He coined the famous Quote describing the St. Thomas Christians as "Hindu in Culture, Christian in Religion and Oriental in Worship"

      @kuriakosekjoseph6253 3 місяці тому +1

      @@valeshmathias dude you can't apply the logic of A=B, B=C so A=C. Because the Indian church due to the distance constraints was always in touch with the Assyrian Church not the Roman Church so followed whatever the Assyrian Church did.
      And if the communion of the church with Rome was not broken why not directly establish a bishop from the locals when the communion was re established rather than establishing Latin bishops.

    • @kuriakosekjoseph6253
      @kuriakosekjoseph6253 3 місяці тому +2

      @@delvingeorge2807 Bro the statement that we were in communion in Rome is technically correct. So is also the statement that we were in communion with the Church in Antioch, Constantinople, Jerusalem, Alexandria.
      The communion only broke when the schisms happened which is also a fact.
      So Catholic worship rites weren't introduced till Portuguese came into India

    • @valeshmathias

    It is wise to note church of st thomas was the first christian church in all of india. Latin catholics didn't come until 15th century. It could have been sooner, but thank God Christopher Columbus did not find us lol
    Also, all the churches before 15th century were syric churches practicing east syrian liturgy. St thomas of Kana is proof of that hen he brought many families from Iraq along with priests and bishops over to India in the 4th century. Latin rite apparently ruined the church of st thomas by imposing Latin traditions and divisions occurred. It's not universal if not all eastern churches are practicing their own customs in their service with latin influence.

    • @josephjacob3274
      @josephjacob3274 2 місяці тому +1

      @Melons-vg8dq we were actually catholic, but jesuits thought we weren't. Ignorance is not a blessing and yet roman catholics like you think that. We were organized and had no conflicts until Roman Catholics came and destroyed our church of st Thomas. Even today, the synod of diamper is considered an illegal synod that was held by the jesuits. The patriarch of Antioch was more supportive than the vatican was back then. In fact, the syriac catholic church came from the Antioch church due to Jesuit influence. Also, orthodox churches have their salvation as they are a universal church. Vatican has said theybhave valid priestly orders and sacraments. They have apostolic succession. They have seen marian apparations. They have witnessed God's blessings through prayer and miracles. The catholic church today has no unity as there are those who are against the pope in the college of cardinals. Don't talk of weakness and disorganized until the catholic church in Rome is squared away.

      An Amen sermon text
      quote: Jesus, finally, delivered a grand discourse on the word "Amen," which, He said, was the whole summary of prayer. Whoever pronounces it carelessly, makes void his prayer. Prayer cries to God; binds us to God; opens to us His mercy, and, with the word "Amen," rightly uttered, we take the asked-for gift out of His hands. Jesus spoke most forcibly of the power of the word "Amen." He called it the beginning and the end of everything. He spoke almost as if God had by it created the whole world. He uttered an "Amen" over all that He had taught them, over His own departure from them, over the accomplishment of His own mission, and ended His discourse by a solemn "Amen." Then He blessed His audience, who wept and cried after Him.

      quote: Finally, He went over the whole prayer and gave the interpretation of the word Amen, as He had formerly done in Cyprus, saying that this word contains everything in itself, that it is the beginning and the end of prayer.
