I knew what was wrong as soon as you described the steering issue. It’s mind boggling that the dealer mechanics didn’t check for a ground fault on the electric pump the first time around. I didn’t even know the power steering was electric until you described the failure. 😂
I feel the same way as you I love my Vanderhall it's like riding a motorcycle with the safety of a car but even better than a motorcycle. I changed the color of my dashboard and when I put it back together I put a piece of metal around the key ring and then it wouldn't start I was told by Vanderhall that the metal ring next to the ignition switch interfered with the RF frequency. my ignition is not like yours I have a normal looking key, that's what they told me about my ignition I haven't had the problem since 😊
Thank you for the honest review. Ive always wanted a Vanderhall but after watching this I too feel that dealers aren't entirely on-board with Vanderhall services and issues. Therefore, I won't be buying a Vanderhall at this time.
Thanks for the review. I rented one for my birthday a couple years ago and it was a blast. I did have the steering linkage come apart after day 2 of the rental (luckily I was backing out of a driveway and not on the curvy parts of the 500 miles we put on it). The steering had a quarter turn of play both directions before anything would happen to the wheels. I also noticed a lot of blow by and oil spatter on the windshield/passenger side of the vehicle. But aside from those things, it was so much fun and I was happy for the experience. I plan to buy one at some point when I'm tired of riding motorcycles or when my kid gets older and wants to tag along.
Hey no problem, glad you enjoyed it. I haven't experienced the oil spatter issue yet (fingers crossed). I just finished dropping a stereo upgrade in it and that was quite the experience. I removed most of the body panels and had a chance to get a little more familiar with the wiring. Working on that video now. It looks pretty nuts without all the panels, might be worth a watch when I put it out.
Well, I’m glad you’re having fun with it. I bought one used with 8000 miles on it and broke down the first day I bought it same model 2017 it also has the same power steering problem. That makes me wanna look for a ground now and see if that is the problem with mine. I don’t even drive it further around the block. I’m afraid it’s gonna break down and I’m also having problems with not starting all the time,
Experiences like that are the worst, I hope you get everything figured out. I actually don't have mine anymore, I sold it so I could play around with some other vehicles.
I've got a 2021 Vanderhall Venice Blackjack and love it too. My three dealers in the area all stop selling and servicing them When I asked why, they said "customer service" from Vanderhall is a nightmare and they did not want to deal with them again or the product. Totally sucks if I have an issue. I was able to do my first oil change myself....with ramps, it was pretty easy. Changing the filter was a bit of a challange but doable. my only issue is the odometer.....after abour 2600 miles, it reset back to zero! Yup, when I reset the trip odometer after filling it up, it reset the odometer too. I have no idea how that can happen nor how I can resolve it to get the actual mileage back. Currently, it shows 1441. I've also had encounters with vehicles not seeing me when we were "side by side". I replaced the two mrriors with a Kuryakyn mirror (huge difference in less vibration). Iuse a back support pillow as well. Other than those issues, I love it and so does my 8 year old grandddaughter. Gave up MC for good with this ride.
Ya, it would be nice to see them evolve into having local dealerships that were ran by Vanderhall. Maybe that way there would be a little more pride and ownership in the product? The odometer issue you are having would really bother me. Have you considered contacting Vanderhall directly to see if they have a solution for you? Also, thanks for pointing this mirror option out. The stock mirrors are getting a little tiresome, so I'm on the hunt for some other options.
at 0:37 I believe the tires are "directional tires" and are mounted backwards. They won't displace water when mounted in this direction, instead you'll get hydroplaning.
I owned the 7th venice ever off the assembly line and put 25,000 miles on it. Only issue i had was a driver side axle cv boot started leaking. That being said i only paid $23,000 for it. At $30-40k its a tall ask.
Glad it was helpful. The negative stuff wasn't something that I really wanted to get into, but if the shoe fits. To be fair, it still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.
The Vanderhalls are so simple and easy to work on that I wouldn’t worry too much about dealer support with a used machine. That being said, I don’t want to buy a brand new vehicle that I can’t get properly serviced because the dealer is a hundred miles away and can’t diagnose a faulty power steering ground. That’s ridiculous!
I bought my vanderhall from a Harley dealer outside New York on Long Island and I got the same kind of reception that you got and now Harley is out of the vanderhall business in that dealership anyway🤷🏻♂️
Thanks for the nice video. You speak in a pleasant way. I will sell my motorcycle this Spring, and I will be at a crossroads for a recreational vehicle. I am not necessarily done with motorcycles. I had wanted to try a cruiser for a change, floorboards and all, and discovered that I hated the layout. Vanderhall had my attention, but with the shaky quality and support, and their direction towards electric vehicles, I think I will pass. That dealer of yours sucks. When a dangerous problem like that is reported, you don't just hand the vehicle back saying that you couldn't replicate it. They could have found that loose ground with minimal product knowledge and just a little determination.
Thank you Will, I appreciate that. As far as the dealership goes, I can tell you that it was the worst experience I've had with a dealership in my lifetime, so far. On a positive note, the Vanderhall still seems to be running fine at this point. You know what they say, "You've got to take the bad with the good." Thanks for watching.
I just watched your video and absolutely loved it! I have been thinking of putting my motorcycle up for sale and buying something a bit safer to drive. I live near the Blue Ridge Parkway which would be an amazing place to drive a Vanderhall! I wonder if they would give me a military discount? Thanks again for your truly professional video! 73!

I really like this as a motorcycle rider and sports enthusiast but as a mechanic the eco boost engines don't generally last long in a car, maybe it will hold up much longer in an Autocycle. Thanks!
It's not that hard to get this engine out, I'd presume. Just rebuild the engine when it's worn down. Parts are everywhere and cheap with these small engines.
Hey my friend I live in Coeur d Alene Idaho and I’m going to purchase a vanderhall in Kennewick , and I was just curious as the dealership you went too … or if it’s the one I’m going too !!
Yes, I had the exact same problem. There is a little piece of plastic inside the cap that a spring connects too and it most likely broke. You can pry the plastic portion of the gas cap out of the metal cover and glue a new one in. I took the parts down to my local auto store and the guy was nice enough to help me try several caps before we found one that worked out.
Oh, I forgot to mention one thing. If you are having trouble getting the broken cap off, just start spinning the cap the other way (off) and it will eventually rattle out of the grooves and come off.
@@Idahoup thank you so much!! I contacted the dealership where I purchased and they have a new one on order. If it happens again, I will do that (buy one and re-glue)
