It just takes lots of practice Kate.😎 if you want a better result without going back? Use a 10 power jewelers loop throughout the process. The loop will allow you to see the imperfections in you work as you go, so that you won’t move wheels until the stone is ready.😎 this is my gift to the artist I know you are.😇
Hi 👋 👋 👋 👋 Katie hay nice job on your cab. Also I'm throwing out an idea 💡 to ya maybe try wax on a stick I don't know if you would have more control over your stone or not. Maybe even talk with Thiel not sure about my spelling but hope you can do the translation.
Once I have, close to the trimmed shape I want, I bevel just a tiny bit on the back flat edges, like a fingernail thickness with 220 to keep it from spalling, then, on the 80, SET YOUR GIRDLE! Spend all your time making a shallow, crisp girdle. Once your girdle is set, just round over the top with gradiating bevels until flats are gone. Big bulbous cabs are a pain, flat crisp ones look awesome and polish better. I don't move off my 80 wheel until there are no flats. Going back to your heavier wheel is always going to save you time, over spending an hour on your soft wheels. Been cutting since 1985, Montana agates are top 10 for me, the polish! Keep at it and have fun! Love the content!
Beautiful work Katy! I think you should put that beauty in a setting and wear it proudly! I appreciate all the work that went into creating that cab! 👏👏👏👍❤️
I do a lot of agate cabs and just polishing of agate. I found the easiest way to get perfect polish is I use the first three wheels and then I use a Thumlers vibratory tumbler for the polish. It saves my so much effort for that final stage and they come out perfect.
Have you tried using a dop stick when cutting a cabochon? I find that I have better control when I have a handle attached. Otherwise, good job. Thanks for sharing.

Wow! That cab turned out great! Montana agates are some of the hardest rock to work with out there. And it ranges from 7-9 on the mohs! Not just 7. Montanas are the hardest of any of the agates ive seen too. They are blade killers! lol but soooo worth it! They are gorgeous! im going to have to check out etsy again if you just listed more! Thanks Kate!
One day I will get out there and try my hand at finding some beauties!!! Much like you...I see beauty in every one.. and have never been to the north west!!! It's#1 on my bucket list...
Kate, I think you might need to start chanting the phrase that busy doctors are known to be heard mumbling... patience, patience, patience!!! Just think, with enough practice, you might soon be known as Dr. Did_it_perfectly. 😇
Nooooooooo. It’s so beautiful. And BIG. Ok, it looks good. Better. Ohhhhh pretty cab. Good job!
Persistence paid off, beautiful cab.
Thanks - I was hoping for iris, but I learned a lesson instead!
You really know how to clear the room KD.
I love agates, but they are defiantly a labor of love. You did good.
Thanks - it's definitely a learning process! :D
Oh my goodness how beautiful I just love watching your videos thank you so much
Thanks so much 😊

I understand! I do use dop sticks for smaller stones, but this one seemed to large to make it useful. Thanks!

Thanks! I use dop sticks for smaller stones, but thought this big one needed a little more room. :)
Wow. I have a new appreciation for the work involved! Looks good❤

Thanks, Lisa - figures I am trying to learn on the hardest one. :D
@@KatyDidRocks Your cab turned out beautiful! It is so worth the trouble! Your agates have an exceptional beauty and your cab is a stunner!

And of course I'm always happy to help!! (Joke) 😄 sorry.. my name is dawn..
Thanks, Dawn. :)
You probably should have spend more time on the first few wheels but it sure worked out fine in the end well done you!!😍
Yes, I definitely do need to spend more time. But as it was, it took several hours for the whole process - I kept thinking, "It MUST be done NOW!" :D
@@KatyDidRocks unbelievable these take so long! My hat off to you for sticking with it 🥰
Ah there you are 😊
Teehee!
Lindas demais 😍😍😍
Obrigada!
Its just a rock. Remember. Its just a rock! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
:D
:D
When cutting put line off 2 mm round bottom than cut round at 45 angle than continu at 90 angle until finish .where your 45 angle finishes do 90 angle
Also what I do with slabs that have cracks I drop the slab so it cracks into peace’s than you can use the peace’s with and mark them

Impatiens is my favorite flower. :D
@@KatyDidRocks Of course. That makes perfect sense.
Katydid, what glue do u use to glue agates to the plywood when u cut them in your rockaway? Great idea.
Elmer's wood glue!
Ps always look at the stone dry ,with the loop
Great advice... .Darrin... thank you for your advice... hope you don't mind others trying that as well..
Thanks again!
@@dawnademarco3482 I encourage everyone that cuts to use the jewelers loop. I hope you find success.😎
Ok when you have scratches go back to 250 grit and make shore all scratches are out at 250 grit have cut at least 4000 cabs
Watching those fingers so close to the saws makes me nervous
Don’t worry - lapidary saws are dull, so I would have to work hard to cut myself!
Lol I can't see anything just the machine 🤣
Yes, there are some issues. :D
Lol, go outside!
I'd like to - but it's 11 degrees and snowing. :D
Try using dop sticks
Hi, Amanda! I do use dops for smaller stones - but the large pieces like this, I find the dop sticks get in the way. Thanks for watching!
