Thank you so much Chief. Your videos have helped me improve my reptile husbandry so much! I got my Uro a Arcadia tube UVB instead of just a zoomed 10.0 coil and my uro is much happier now. He stays out and basks much longer than he did before. I also replaced his substrate with a mix of reptile soil and desert sand and he enjoys burrowing in it. Thank you for sharing your love and passion for reptiles and making the reptile community a better / more well educated place so we can continue to improve our pet reptiles lives and preserve the hobby.
I had collected some large tree branches and they wouldn't fit in my oven, so I baked them in our gas grill outside! 😂 For the ❤ of my beardie. I also have boiled rocks for the simple fact that if you bake rocks that have been in water, they can explode. So, be careful.
Thank you for the info! I’ve been all over the web and every pet shop near by and it’s insane the amount of money they want for tiny pieces of wood lol time to hit the woods!!
I’m in SW Kansas and pretty much all trees are elms. I gathered some bark from limbs downed in a wind storm, scalded and baked it. I don’t gather leaves off the ground because I’m afraid of bringing in fire ants
In texas we seal oaks with rubber cement after wounding or limbing them because locally we have an aggressive pathogen going around that infects them. May not be a problem in Oklahoma though. *plastidip type spray
Just took my daughter out in search of rocks for our uromastyx enclosure. We hit the jackpot and found a busted up statue discarded along the creek behind our house. You never know what you are going to find.
@@jacobestrella4548 I would go hybrid honestly if you want to go full solid sides that would work best. Screen enclosures suck for veiled chameleons tbh.
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse I figured the screen wouldn’t be best it just doesn’t make sense. Thanks for the input! I’ll be adding plexiglass sides to a screen enclosure maybe only leave the door mesh. I plan on doing a bio active enclosure. Right now mine is in a 20g tank with about 3 foot of chicken wire attached to it so he can climb a decent amount but will be upgrading to a 2x2x4 within the next two weeks.
i probably sound dumb right now, but do you have to replace the twigs/branches every so often? asking as im wanting to use them for my chameleon enclosure. its not something i must worry about watering but its gonna give them more strong branches to climb on.
this information is not really available from what i could find on the internet from what i could find, i live in az and the most common woods here are mesquite and palo verde i am wondering if anyone here knows whether either of these woods are okay.
Hey I just went to this beach in Florida (perdido) and I took some wood from a sand dune, so do you think it's safe for my ball python? I'm making bioactive tank. What's your best sterilization method??
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse ok but there's this one piece, that has tons, and I mean TONS of tiny holes and big holes that look like some stuff is in there, i feel weird putting it in the tank
i like to send the rocks i get through the dishwasher. i would strongly discourage taking too many rock from under the water they often serve as places for animals to lay their eggs and larvae

Yes the biggest thing about getting stuff off the ground is making sure ants aren’t on it. Elm is a great tree to gather stuff from
Is birch a safe tree branch for beardies?
Yeah that’s safe

That’s so interesting learn something new everyday.
I just got some wood for my bearded dragon and maybe this is because he’s exploring but he’s trying to eat the bark. Is this bad?

Very true! That’s awesome nothing like finding the perfect rocks and decor for the enclosure
I have a red oak in my backyard, I found mixed reviews online about red oaks being safe for reptiles, your thoughts?
Awesome video-thank you!
Happy to help
But remember to repect the habitat and ecosystems exspecially with picking up rocks make sure there not a home and hideing place
True!
Bro no way I was looking for wood types for my new veiled and you so happen to be in the same state as me so definitely be trying to get me some
Nice! Yeah that’s exactly where I get my veiled chameleons limbs as well
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse in Oklahoma would you suggest a hybrid enclosure or a mesh? I’m ordering a 2x2x4 mesh one but I can always add plexiglass

Great question not dumb at all. Mine last a very long time I haven’t replaced them in two years
Is it safe to use tree hides you find off the floor as well as mini tree logs 🪵 if sanitized?
Oh yes totally fine if sanitized. I would bake it at 250f for two hours maybe 3
Thanks for the video and do you know if it is ok to use dogwood branches for them?
Yes dogwood is safe
You just helped me alot

Wooo good vlog
I appreciate you
Do you let the wood dry out before putting it in your enclosures
Yeah but I only rinse off most of the time
Bruh was that a turd on top of that rock when you said human pollution 💩🤣
Haha it could be
The leaves aren't on the trees yet. Can i use some from the ground?
Yeah that’s what I get

That’s one I wouldn’t as they are very aromatic
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse ok thank you 😁
why would i find a slug in my dragons cage and what sahould i do
cage
Hmm remove it. Very unusual
How do u clean deer antlers put in bearded dragon tank
You can scrub them off with dawn dish soap and as long as there is no fur on it you are good. Throw it in!
@@robinmayfield667 yeah the dawn dish soap will get any bad bacteria off.
u got all that in 1 trip
Yes all 1 trip. Also why I was so out of breath haha
lol u need hand saw
I have the power saw thank goodness. Helped a lot
