Can you imagine how much strength that lady has in her hands and at that age??????
Amazing!
Yeah!!! Her skills are amazing! We really respect her!!!
ever shook the hand of an old woman who milked cows by hand her whole life? Freaky strong!
@MeagainIA2011 I hadn't thought of it until now,but yes, absolutely,a person's hands and wrists and probably their forearms as well, would be incredibly strong after many many years of milking by hand.
Sănătate doamnei ,tot respectul și admirația! Chiar e specială ,o îmbrățișez virtual!🤗❤❤❤
Beautiful work of weaving straw and creating useful items with your hands! I hope you are teaching others to do this amazing work. Thank you for this video. Stay safe and healthy!!!! ❤

Thank you to share with us your traditional crafts that, I hope, will not get lost in time! What making crafts taught me is: patience and be meticulous, one pointed concentration in diving into what I am doing, time and space disappear... I am totally in... totally one with what I love to do and trusting that it will be fine...often brings beautiful surprises!!!
It’s a joy to watch a craftsman at work. It wasn’t until near the end that I realized just how the sandal fit on a person’s foot. I’m sure they are comfortable to wear. Thank you for sharing your skill.
Thank you and love u❤️🔥
If you wore these sandals everyday how long do you think they would last before the need to replace them ? Much love ❤️ 🙏
A beautiful job. Thankyou so much for sharing your craft with us, and we wish you all the very best
Thank you for your wonderful comment. Thank you very much for finding this video among the many videos and watching this wonderful craftsman!
Thank you for your wonderful comments!
Amen.

Awesome I would love to learn this! I hope the young do not forget this craft
hermoso trabajo artesanal bendiciones a ella y a tantos artesanos japoneses
Thank you for your wonderful comment! We also hope that the work of these craftsmen will continue.
They will!!! Thank you for your comment s🙏
It is sad when traditional arts and crafts are lost.
Thank you for watching and commenting! When you come to Japan, be sure to ask the craftsmen for more details!
Me too . Much love ❤️ 🙏
Thank you for watching and for your nice comments!
Thank you for your great comments! Love you❤️🔥
Beautiful! Would love to have a pair of these!
I love the way the loops are pulled through to make the ends nice and tight. The finished sandals are like flip flops but with a twist! And they don’t harm the environment. The old ways have such a lot to offer us.
Thank you for your wonderful comments! Love u❤️🔥
Wow! Wonderful work! Thank you for sharing!
Yeah, thank you for watching as well! Arigato!

Absolutely amazing tool! Every detail makes perfect sense from design perspective!
She is amazing for sure!!! Thank you!!!
I've watched many such videos but yours are the most enjoyable: the filming, interview, editing, all contribute to a very entertaining moment.
There's also something fascinating to see craftmen at work, and it's great that some like you preserve the memory of those jobs.
Thank you for watching and for your wonderful comment. Your feedback gives us energy and motivation. We will continue to strive to create even better videos.
Thank you for sharing this craft. May these lovely people be healthy and happy.
Thanks for watching and for the nice comments!
Fascinating process, thank you for showing it. I am curious to know how long it takes to make a pair of these from start to finish. I'd also be curious to know what sort of plants are used and when and how they are harvested.
Was this craft traditionally practised by women or both women and men or even mainly by men? Was there a particular region where it was carried out or did each community have a sandal-maker?
How were the socks that were generally worn with those shoes made? It looked like the lady making the sandals was wearing a pair.
It takes about 1 day for making pair shoes! And it is made by straw from Japanese rice!
Both men and women made straw sandals. Furthermore, there was no specific region, and straw sandal were made all over Japan. It is common to wear shoes without socks.
@@kodawari.official: Thank you for answering my questions, I really appreciate it.

Hello from Australia. This video was really good. I’m looking forward to watching your other videos 🙏
We really appreciate it for supporting us!
We do our best all the time! Arigato!
This is awesome and inspiring. I too have a history of basket and rug loom weaving. This fascinates me to see someone my age with such physical agility to use her tools as she has. Thank you.
Thank you for watching and for your nice comments! We would love to see your work someday!
I find that one of the most fascinating things you can watch,is a person working at,and totally caught up in,their craft. What they're making might have been something I had no interest in,until I saw it being created, and that changed my feeling towards the item(s)/object.Whether it's these handmade straw sandals,or creating a one-of-a-kind chopper-style motorcycle,I can appreciate the creation and usage much more.I would definitely be interested in seeing more videos like this one.
I really agree with your opinion! Thank you for watching and for your nice comments!
Absolutely wonderful. Thank you for sharing. ❤❤

Beautiful work! I wish I had a grand parent who could teach me this wonderful work.
Thank you for watching and for your nice comments!
How incredible, that takes some serious stregnth to be able to weave all those grass fibres to ensure they stay together! Kudos Grandmother! As for the title, shall we go with 'a 75yr old craftswoman' rather than craftsman? That's quite the insult to her.
Thank you so much! Arigato!!

Thank you for watching and for your nice comments! The craftsmen will be happy if you pay close attention to the details!
I have a pair of straw sandals that were given to me as a gift when I first visited Japan more than 50 years ago. At the time, I thought they were just a small token of friendship, but I had no idea how intricate the process was in making them. I'll treasure them even more, now that I know the skill and craftsmanship that went into their creation.
Thank you for watching and for your lovely comments! And thank you for sharing your wonderful memories.

Thanks for watching and for the nice comments!
Making the base rope for the sandles the process was very familiar to me. Because I make a much smaller version of that rope out of linden bark. I've been trying to go smaller and smaller, but I can't help but smile at this giant tougher version of the cordage I'm learning to make.
