If there was no inflation, then paying the same tax rate would make sense. If inflation goes up then because we have less income relative to the costs then taxes should go down. If inflation went down, then maybe taxes ought to go up.
Especially if he's involved in social security administration programs and benefits. They do that intentionally. They call it a poverty program and want you on the streets

My grandmother was one of those victims. Retired Detroit teacher on fixed income. Cut the pension funds by more than 70% and also screwed her taxes up. Still working to get it fixed!

BOTH! The taxes are based on the assessed value minus any exemptions, then that value is multiplied by the jurisdiction’s tax rate, and in this particular situation they hiked the tax rate 19% in wyte neighborhoods and 30% in black neighborhoods, which is almost double. This is diabolical! 😮
@@omokaroojiire The reason there is an assessment is because of the lack of income after the pandemic. They are not getting the taxes from the commercial businesses that shut down. Commerical businesses pay a higher property tax than residential properties. This is the reason residential properties property taxes are going up to make up for the loss of commercial businesses in the areas. It's going on all over the U.S, not just to this homeowner. Be prepared to lose if you don't have any money to cover the bills that need to be paid.

If the assessments values are increasing because of the need to increase taxes, what does that say about the validity of the assessments. Shouldn't they just increase the taxes and cut back on expenses? Increasing the assessed value also increases homeowners insurance.

Taxes should be based off the price the house was bought for and remain based on that price until the house is sold, then should be based on the price the home is sold for and remain based on that price until its sold again.

Property taxes shouldn't be a thing period. It should be a one time payment when you buy th house. There's no reason them people should still have the ability to take your house for not paying never ending property taxes on a home you already bought and paid taxes for at the time of purchase
I know a wht person from Philadelphia I believe. She said that's how it is there. Her parents been paying the same taxes for the past 40+ years.

I have 9 apartments units that I built by myself in eastern region of Ghana, 100 by 90 land belongs. to me. I pay my property tax or property rate for 30 dollars every year.
I have 12 apartment units in Accra, I recently paid 5 years property tax in advance for just 70 dollars. I pray all black people will build their dream homes in Africa, the motherland. We just have to stay vigilant. Periodically my adult children receive calls asking if my house (the one my wife and I currently occupy) is for sale, they’re looking to buy for Pennie’s on the dollar. All of my properties have been placed in a Trust with a business plan for the trustee to follow. My children will no do what my mom and siblings did with my grandmothers house.

My friend is from Jersey he said theyve been doing the same thing there in the city he grew up in. It used to be okd hoises and condos now companies have come in buying people out of their homes and theres a bunch of coffee shops and over priced restraunts moving in.

I live in Indiana and my property tax has gone up from $900 to $3200 a year out of the blue.
For example, the guy who bought his home in cash and his property is potentially worth a million dollars, we'll, he could potentially get a credit line for $600K-$900K, that typically don't have to pay in full for 10years. You can use it however you want to, but the idea is to invest it and by the time you have to pay it back, you'll have your own $1,000,000 or more. This is how you flip it on the BS.

It just never stops. Ive seen it happen here in Austin Texas on the east side. 50-90k homes now, 400-800k homes. You barely see anyone whonis black or brown there anymore, 90%YT, 10% mixed.

I noticed in Jax fl. The nuisance liens on properties in black communities are A LOT HIGHER than the other side of town. I’ve seen house sitting burned abandoned for yrs no liens were put on the property for yrs it was only $800 when they did but in the black community for a house less than half the size sitting a few months it’s a lien $1500 to a few thousand and then every month from there. Then the investors come in and buy up the houses of course dirt cheap. The owner can’t afford to pay the liens. Also if they demo the house in black community it’s $10-30k the other side of town it’s a few thousand to maybe $10k
I hope all of the foreclosed property owners from the tax lien auction at least know to file for their surplus funds or else those funds will escheat to the state or go to a general county fund which them or their heirs will forfeit.
@@amberb8876 Idk. I know they send a letter to address on file for that. Most ppl really don’t know about surplus funds. Foreclosured ppl are too stressed and hiding. They probably never get the letter. My comment is about excessive fees/liens charged to the lower income communities. They usually walk away from the property bc of liens. There’s a program that helps with some of the liens cost but they already overcharged them. When investors get the property the city sometimes clear all the liens. This is happening in many cities.

I'm in the southwest suburbs of Chicago and was in the process of buying a home and had to walk away 5 days before closing because the taxes on the house doubled!! The poorest black suburbs were hit the hardest, Harvey, Dolton, Chicago Heights just to name a few. Black People are losing their homes already and moving out, this should be illegal! Can you say Gentrification? SMH, this is sad to see.

They're not fixing roads or utilities in the areas where the taxes are going up. It's also red lining all over again. People in your own neighborhood are against you too by reporting little odd ball things to the city or hoa which turns into a money pit for the person being reported. It's not a good thing to own a home here. Never was.

This same thing is happening for example, in Detroit Michigan, which is now the largest Black-majority city in the United States, at 80%. Due to an increase in property values, Detroit’s black homeowners were said to be on the path, to becoming some of the wealthiest in the US. A University of Michigan study revealed, that Detroit’s Black homeowners gained nearly $3B in real estate wealth from 2014-22.
Oddly, The City of Detroit overtaxed these homeowners, by at least $600 million between 2010 and 2016. The Michigan Constitution prohibits property from being assessed at more than 50% of its market value, yet the city assessed properties at as much as 85% of their market value.The illegal, inflated property tax assessments resulted in an estimated 100,000 Detroiter's, most of them Black, losing their homes to foreclosure, and currently they have still received NO COMPENSATION. In addition, the city is now saying that so-called heirs’ properties - homes in Detroit inherited through generations without a legal transfer of property to a surviving relative, are at risk of foreclosure.
Eerily similar to the effects of Urban Renewal in the cities of Detroit, Boston, New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Norfolk, Little Rock, New Haven, and others... where Black homeowners and business owners properties were demolished, with little to no compensation, robbing them of generational wealth. More than two-thirds of those displaced by urban renewal projects were people of color.
Why the hek do they keep building commercial buildings. I drive around and see empty commercial buildings and construction of a new building down the street. Ponsey scheme, straight-up.
The crazy part is that the rise is taxes was not applied to ALL communities, but only the blacks.
