As a Black American, I visited Costa Rica a few years back, and it felt like home. The community was so welcoming, and the cost of living was super affordable. I can definitely see why it made the list!
We visited Panama in June. I was skeptical of all the glowing reviews. Based on my experience, the reviews are accurate. The people are friendly, many dark-skinned folks there and the overall vibe was pleasant. The driving was crazy and some areas had a trash problem, so it's not perfect. Panama is on the list of retirement places for me. We plan to spend a few weeks in the country to see if we can live there.
Thank you for sharing the countries from the TRAVEL NOIRE article. I have a home on the Caribbean Coast of Costa Rica in Limon Province, and we are building a Master-Planned shipping container community there. After six years of research on where to develop my "Plan B" I decided on this area for many reasons. They look like me, they speak English on the Caribbean Coast, the food is nutrient dense and the air is clean. It's not perfect but I won't freeze to death or starve to death, and in case of a crisis, my family may be able to drive down from the U.S. Bless you for your channel. S
Someone had mentioned this place to Marlene years ago and now you're here commenting. It's sounding like a REALLY nice place to go. Thanks for sharing these details. Would love to speak with you more about this - please email us. Blessings!
This should be called the 6 top countries for blacks to retire to if they know how to speak Spanish. I would not retire in none of these countries. They quote the cost of living. But they have not done their homework. There are many, many, African countries where you can live just on your social security cheques. And I am not talking about impoverish countries. You can buy a brand new house in Ghana or Kenya for between 60,000 and $80,000 us dollars. And I mean a 3 bedroom house in a gated community. They have shopping malls and nice restaurants and lots of things to do there. And they speak English. And South Africa is much better than any of these Spanish speaking countries. South Africa is still the most beautiful country that I have ever been to. And the most beautiful houses that I have ever seen are there. You can connect with your African culture. They have many festivals and activities and Plays that you can go to. Do they have that in central Mexico? You will find a good place of worship and the people there are very spiritual. And everybody looks like you. I have no idea why you would want to retire in a place where hardly no one looks like you and they speak a different language. And I haven't even mentioned the Caribbean yet. Jamaica and Barbados are a black person paradise. As for me, its very simple. The best places for black people to retire is Africa and the Caribbean.
I've been to Mexico over a dozen times, I've been to 6 of Costa Rica's 7 provinces and I've been to Panama but, one country I would put at the very top of this list is New Zealand. I was there for 26 days this past January. The place is clean, has universal health care, not crowded at all, very safe and the people there are very friendly. The cops there don't even carry guns. Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to be rich to live there. You do have to have your financial house in order, and you can't be barely making ends meet but, you don't have to be rich to retire there. The retirement visa is only good for two years so, every two years you have to renew your visa and you're literally on the other side of the planet from the USA (that could be a good thing) but, if you can deal with those two things, IMHO, New Zealand is the closest thing to paradise on the planet.
I visited Panama for a month during a temporary duty assignment while serving in the Air Force in 1986, and Spain for two weeks for a military softball tournament in 1990. Both were as advertised. I’m ready to go back to both.
Great choices, especially Panama 🇵🇦. Howard Air Base was there. For me now age (61), widower, dad 👨 with adult children and granddad. I plan to return and retire in the Philippines 🇵🇭. I was stationed there in 1991. Second language is English. You need between $1,200 to $1,600 American dollars 💸 to live comfortably. They also AMERICA 🇺🇸 military veteran Philippines 🇵🇭 sponsored SRRV 🇵🇭 retirement Visa. About 70,000 Americans are retired in the Philippines 🇵🇭. Thank you for this video.
You left off Africa for black folks. Rawanda is considered the black Singapore. Also, I lived in Ethiopia for 3 years. (I’m from California). One of the best experiences in my life. Also, I hear great things about Kenya & Ghana.
Portugal, Costa Rica and Panama seems to be coming up on every list of the top places for black retirees to live. I am intrigued as I am looking to retire abroad rather than in the U.S. I'd love to hear more at one of your workshops.
Yes, all 3 of those places sound amazing, we're watching videos about them a lot lately! Learn when our next Workshop starts by joining the waitlist here --> www.awakenwithmark.com/products/. Hope to see you at the next one, and thank you for watching!
This sounds more like a white people's list. I've lived in a few of those countries. Panama was fine, and México was just okay. Funny that they didn't mention any African countries. Ive lived in several African countries that are better than some of the cities on this list. I'm living now in Botswana and will more than likely remain here after a lot of traveling. It's a shame that so many black people will tout countries like those on this list and totally miss the entire African continent.
Video suggestion: cities and regions within more expensive countries that are less expensive to live in. For example, France's smaller cities (like Dijon) and rural areas are quite affordable.
PEACE AND BLESSINGS TO YOU AND YOURS, MAY YAHUAH CONTINUE TO BLESS YOU ALL,HAPPY SABBATH TO YOU GUYS,THANK YOU FOR PUTTING OUT GOOD INFORMATION FOR THOSE OF US WHO ARE CONTEMPLATING AN ESCAPE FROM THE LAND OF OUR CAPTIVITY ❤️😇🙏🏽
I know there will be comments about Spain protests against "tourists" one if you choose the right place and LIVE there not in an air BnB and try to make local friends not just expat bubble, it might be different. Spain in places can be racist I've heard from multiple folks including a woman who is Jewish who felt they were closed off and "rule bound" I forget what city it was.
The one thing that folks need to know that they never think about is that in Spain, if you ever file taxes with them and then leave, they will chase you to file taxes for 10 years! They even ask question on the tax forms like " how much is your life insurance policy". They may get a cut of your money if you die! But I lived there for years and I agree that the food and cost of health care is amazing! Worth the cost of just dropping by to get your medications! Fish and meat like you can't believe and even the potatoes taste different! Really sweet. The banana's have a really hard center so I didn't eat them very often. It has a great transport system that you can take from one end of the country right up to the bordering countries! Great support if you have an developmentally delayed child/adult but not so great for older people with mobility issues.
I like the information, it makes me go Hmmmm, however the sound needs a little tender loving care, difficult to understand on some parts. Have a great day.
America has been open to all for so long and im actually shocked at laws outside of America. I dont disagree with the laws but makes me rethink how America laws are set up. I keep picking a place but changing it. I hope to come close to a decision asap though. It seems like many countries are tightening their laws even more and getting Americans out. So if you considering it may want to get things on place quickly.
Consider joining Black travel groups in Spain to see what their quality of life is like, and don't forget your scouting trip, it could be a good fit for you so long as you do your research. All the best!
Y'all why are there no $$ associated with the tickets when I tried to purchase for the workshop. It's important to know the price of the tickets to be purchased.
Mtwapa Mombasa , Kenya.. modern .2 bedroom 2 bath apartment $170.00 month. Total monthly expenses including weekly maid service ,food and entertainment and support of a girlfriend.....$650.00usd ..... beautiful beaches ⛱️ see a doctor for 23.00 which may include meds....😊😊😊😊😊 Also Santa Marta, Colombia lovely quiet beach town, qualify for a retirement Visa with $980usd monthly income .
Informative info. Please never forget to mention that wherever you go as a retiree you will always have to pay the full US tax for your world income as long as you remain a US citizen!!!! And if the US dies not have a double taxation avoidance agreement, you will be taxed twice!!! So be aware and inform yourself well if you don't want to suffer a brutal financial wake-up!!!!

Good list. I think France should have replaced Spain or Portugal. Outside of Paris, France is surprisingly affordable and offers a super-easy path to long stay residency.
Ecuador now requires a criminal background report to come into the country. If you show up there without it they give you 3 days to get out of the country.
The best retirement country for Black Americans is South Africa. Same amenities as you get in the US. Most developed black country in the world. Most biodiverse country in the world. 60% coastal. One of the best dollar rate exchanges. English speaking country. Largest tourism sector in Africa.Beautiful coastal cities. Very developed. Universal healthcare. This sounds good. However, I would prefer a country within the continent of Africa. I desire to live and interact with predominantly black communities. Johannesburg South Africa and Ghana are among my first choices even though my DNA is 48% Nigerian. A stable tranquility government coupled with safety, health care, and affordable Cost of Living are the things that I seek compatibility with.
Awesome, good to know what you want. We're excited to see Ghana and South Africa one day soon, we even have family who lived in SA. Blessed travels to you!
I was really y expecting you guys to be talking about countries in africa as a lot of african americans are making the move there so this was interesting thanks

Portugal I loved. But the cost since i was there has Escalated to the point of not being affordable for most retirees on a modest income
