You don't tell Quincy Jones how to tell a story. He's one of the greatest producers of our time. He'll tell you the story the way he sees fit and it'll go platinum.
People talk, but old people tell a story. This guy doesn't tell you what happened, he makes you feel like you were there. He also changes with the times. giving "knucks" at his age? That's how you do it.
+Emilio Luera There's a two part interview on Czech television with him, in a talkshow called Na plovarne. The stories he told, he really lived the 20's century in music to the fullest.
Emilio Luera Really, cause as far as I know he only wrote 1 song for that album while MJ wrote 4, 2 of which became massive #1 hits. Infact as far I know "Q" only ever wrote 1 song for MJ while MJ wrote 16 songs while he was with "Q". 12 became top 10 hits of which 9 were also chart toppers. I'm sick of seeing Quincy Jones get more credit than he deserves for MJ's success in the 80s. It's true Quincy helped him, encouraged him and was exec producer for MJ's albums. Quincy nurtured and developed MJ's enormous talent but MJ still did a lot of the work himself.
I like his view on racism... "At the age of 19, Jones traveled with Lionel Hampton to Europe and said it turned him upside down, altering his view of racism in the US. - "It gave you some sense of perspective of past, present and future. It took the myopic conflict between just black and white in the United States and put it on another level because you saw the turmoil between the Armenians and the Turks, and the Cypriots and the Greeks, and the Swedes and the Danes, and the Koreans and the Japanese. Everybody had these hassles, and you saw it was a basic part of human nature, these conflicts. It opened my soul, it opened my mind.""
+The Plebeian Yea we have racism in Belgium too, what we don't have is flemish police officers killing unarmed french speaking citizens... Oh I know if I insult a police officer in french the beating I'll receive will be next level shit. But I'd never have to fear for my life simply because I'm a minority...
That's trash and delusional considering Zenophobia is not the same as Racism and no one can deny the systemic effects of Racism, white racism to be precise.
this kinda view makes white ppl feel good. I doubt these cultures believed their perceived adversaries to be 3/5 of a human, nor spread propaganda about them at every turn, nor created organizations to systemically hold them down, nor... I could keep going, but I imagine you're comfortable with your worldview :)
@You Tube There's no such thing as "white ppl". Ask europeans: germans for sure feel they are different from french and english and slovaks and italian and so on. English for sure feel they're different from americans and anybody else on the (european) continent. French for sure feel they are different from everybody else. Yet you'd say they are all white. Heck no. "White" is as much a generalization as "black". Makes no sense at all. Oh, and let's not pretend black ppl never kill anyone or there's no repression in African countries or horrifying ignorance based on language, religion or culture in general.
So often I hear of an artist from way back that I like a lot tell of how he or she got their start under the tutelage of Quincy Jones. Can't wait to see a biopic of his life, and I hope danged movie producers don't delay it's production until he's dead, I wanna see it soon! Thank you Quincy, for all the music. And I must add, his "The Dude" cd is on my bicycling / exercise mix on my iPod.
Quincy Jones produced for Frank Sinatra and Michael Jackson. That should be enough for anyone's career, but he produced for many many other people all equally successful.
Before there was Babyface, Teddy Riley, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Dr Dre, Rodney Jerkins, The Neptunes, Timbaland, Kanye West, Swizz Beatz, RZA,there was this guy. This human being here is without question the greatest music producer all of time, it's not even up for debate or any kind of discussion.
This man could tell us a story about how he clipped his toenails and we'd still be waiting on his next words, twelve hours into it! An absolutely elegant gentleman.
He’s making a movie and another album with unreleased music with Barry White, Gerald and Eddie LeVert, and a few from Mint Condition. He isn’t “Back on The Block” he’s been On The Block! 🔥
I use to message his website on MySpace to tell him that I like his writing and how he arrange all this songs. I let him know that ,I too was a Lyrics write of all song

+mariokarter13 Beats by Dre are over priced and garbage compared to Sennheisers and Audio Technica's of the same price range, now if these are studio quality headphones for audiophiles they can easily be value for money at $1500.
+mariokarter13 Expensive =/= overpriced. Professional grade high fidelity headphones that are used to compose and master audio are paid for by professionals, that's where they get the name from. It's quite often a business expense and not a luxury one. AKG has been known to produce headphones of that quality before so 1500 probably isn't crazy, and headphones of that price already sell for this reason.
Besides being the person that he is! The one thing that has always been on my mind is that if you were fortunate enough to be invited into his home mr.Jones would give you ( the visitor ) a book from his own collection! So disappointing to hear Colbert interrupting Quincy. It was like having a shock jock interview Beethoven. The man is literally the Einstein of 20th century music and Colbert won’t let him finish a sentence.
Yo this reminds me so much of that video with Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Alan Arkin. Michael Caine would go on a rant even with the simplest questions just like Quincy Jones here. Not saying I hate it tho

I could listen to that man talking all day
This guy is legendary. Legendary.

Thanks Q for giving so much of yourself to us for all these years. A pure genius.
I want to hear a full biography about his life. I can't imagine the life he's lived.

Just finished reading The Autobiography of Quincy Jones. So glad to find this.
The fantastic, loveable, admirable quintessential Quincy , my favourite musician

I know I hate how the audience keeps laughing, pretty disrespectful
+promprom damn those people for enjoying the story! What assholes!

+NerdSync Agreed, very funny xD Stephen always has the best guests!

NerdSync gtfoh Stephen is cringe fest, and so unfunny at least interview with Jimmy Fallon
Wow! I loved every minute of that interview. What a wonderful, fascinating man!
Thank you, Mr. Colbert.....
Yes Q, but how did you get into MUSIC!? Hahaha, loved that 'bit'.

@daddyrichten And why not? MANY people are members of the community-at-large as well as their own ethnic group and/or neighborhood.

Colbert is so condescending here. Does he not realize he's talking to a national treasure? Show the man some respect!
INTERNATIONAL TREASURE
Now he’s got a softer side this was 8 years ago… he was a bit of a dick early on
So often I hear of an artist from way back that I like a lot tell of how he or she got their start under the tutelage of Quincy Jones. Quincy is not the regular guest. He's a great interview when given the platform
The programed eq on the side of the headphones actually sounds pretty cool. Awesome interview.
My god his voice is amazing
Quincy is “The Dude”.
The Q tells his story on his own time. Because, OG.
I love how Stephen told him like three times "Okay back to music" and this boy right here just straight up ignored him until stephen just gave up xD
This man could tell us a story about how he clipped his toenails and we'd still be waiting on his next words, twelve hours into it!
An absolutely elegant gentleman.
This interview needed to be 45mins minimum
Loved this interview. I'm making a movie about it.
Quincy's hilarious.
Q is a musicians musician 🙏🏾♥️

anujbeatles How is that weird? That's her damn daddy she better look like him
BITCH GIMMIE THE TEA I don’t know about that. You never heard of ‘...momma’s baby, daddy’s maybe?’
No. Rashida Jones looks more like her mother Peggy Lipton. Jolie, Rachel, and Kidada Jones looks more like him. Rachel is the exact image of him.

uhh colbert its Quincy just shut up and let him talk.
legend
I dont think Stephen Colbert understood what kind of greatness was sitting next to him. Quincy Jones deserved a better intro.
An OG selling overpriced headphones? Dre's gonna be pissed.
+mariokarter13 how do you know that they are overpriced?
Hi-Fi is expensive.
+mariokarter13
Beats by Dre are over priced and garbage compared to Sennheisers and Audio Technica's of the same price range, now if these are studio quality headphones for audiophiles they can easily be value for money at $1500.
+mariokarter13 AKG are a premium brand in audio gear. Very well respected. You get what you pay for with that shit
Overpriced was more of a jab at Dre. I don't know a whole lot about headphones, but $1500 is a bit steep for a guy using a $20 pair.
+mariokarter13 Expensive =/= overpriced. Professional grade high fidelity headphones that are used to compose and master audio are paid for by professionals, that's where they get the name from. Why are people laughing when Quincy is painting a pretty serious picture about the 1930s in Chicago?
He going with it. These things are plan before hand
People laugh when they're trying to fill the gap of what they don't know, almost know and want to know.
Now i want a Lemon Meringue Pie.
He has to be the cutest person on tv now :')
Aww he’s so cute ❤️❤️
Who cares what he wants to talk about? The man is a national Treasure. Let him speak and teach.
